SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

From Warwick 26.12.13
Race 4. When interviewed regarding the seemingly improved performance of RIP RIP WOODCHIP, trainer G. Cornish stated that the gelding had raced too fiercely and weakened at its last run and that two starts previous raced wide throughout. He added that the horse is best ridden with cover like it had been today and felt this contributed to the improved performance. Mr Cornish was reminded of his obligations with regards to providing a letter of authority if unable to attend future race meetings.

Race 5. Trainer T. Dougall reported that subsequent to the disappointing performance of ROBERTS COMMAND, he had a veterinary examination carried out on the gelding which failed to reveal any abnormalities.

GENERAL

Apprentice J. King was fined $200 for failing to claim down to his riding weight on WILLYWYNYA (R2). J. King was further fined $100 for being overweight on FLIGHT COMMAND (R4) and subsequently replaced by I. Coombes as the rider of that runner.

Race 1: Dawson River Produce/TopX/Landmark/Bill Kehl Memorial QTIS Maiden Plate 1000m

I’M DESPERATE TOO (T. O’Hara) was slow to begin and lost ground.

YOUBIDYOUBUY (L. Tilley) was slow to begin.

Near the 900m I’M DESPERATE TOO was checked and lost ground when improving to the inside of BEAUTIFUL MEG (S. Apthorpe) which laid in at that point.

AMP IT UP AUSSIE (G. Geran) raced wide throughout.

Passing the winning post, WESTERN MAIZCAY (R. Payne) failed to negotiate the turn and hung out forcing HONEY BLONDE (M. O’Brien) towards the outside fence and to be checked.

When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of WESTERN MAIZCAY, trainer T. Williams stated that the gelding was having its first start for him today and, that the horse has worked well leading up to today’s race and felt the addition of blinkers had a bearing on the improved performance.

Race 2: Utopia Stock Trans/Bill Joynson Memorial Benchmark 65 Handicap 1000m

Correct weight was delayed when S. Apthorpe the rider of the 4th placegetter DAIRY, lodged an objection against the judges placings, believing that his mount had run third. After taking evidence from the judge, viewing the photo finish image and considering evidence from riders S. Apthorpe and A. Taylor (STREAM OF LIGHT – 3rd), stewards altered the placing’s under the provisions of AR156(3) to read;

1st – Conjugal Rights, 2nd – Honour Jacko, 3rd – Dairy and 4th – Stream of Light

Correct weight was then declared on these placings.

SARSGHI (G. Geran) began awkwardly.

Near the 700m CONHENRI (W. O’Connell) was checked when tightened for room by WILLYWYNYA (J. King) which hung in.

Stewards intend to inquire into the reasons for CONHENRI being checked over the concluding stages at a time and date to be fixed.

Race 3: Taroom Pharmacy/Owen Brodie Memorial Class B Handicap 1200m

DANCIN’ MICK was declared a late scratching at 3.01 pm by the order of stewards after the gelding was unable to be loaded into the barriers. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on DANCIN’ MICK be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

0 cents in the dollar for the win #5
10 cents in the dollar for the place of the winner #5
6 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #2

Trainer’s representative M. Hicks was advised that DANCIN’ MICK would have to obtain a further barrier certificate before racing again.

ARESVEPEE (S. Apthorpe) was slow to begin.

Near the 900m MURRAMARANG (S. McGovern) commenced to race greenly and was checked a short distance later when racing in restricted room to the inside of BOURGEOIS BABE (G. Geran). MURRAMARANG then continue to race greenly for a short distance.

A. Taylor, the rider of RINGER, reported that her mount did not handle todays track and laid out throughout the race resulting in her being unable to fully test her mount.

When asked to comment on the performance of BREAKIN’RULES, rider K. Gates stated that the gelding had hung out throughout the event which resulted in her mount racing a significant distance behind the main body of the field. She added that in her opinion BREAKIN’RULES needs to race with cover as the gelding had shown a similar trait from the wide barrier at its previous start. She further added that she was able to balance her mount up from the 600m in which it then ran on fairly from that point. Trainer M. Pearson was unable to explain the performance and felt that the gelding had come to the end of its preparation and would now send BREAKIN’ RULES for an immediate spell.

When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of BOURGEOIS BABE, trainer M. Goodwin stated that the mare was having its first start for him today and, that while the horse had been racing over further distances, he believed the horse was better suited to shorter sprinting type races and had trained BOURGEOIS BABE accordingly. He added the mare had worked well and pleased him leading up to today’s race.

Race 4: Leichhardt Hotel/Bob Scott Memorial Open Handicap 1200m

DEVILS FORCE (L. Tilley) raced wide throughout.

S. Apthorpe (MR AXEMAN) was reprimanded for returning to scale in excess of a half a kilogram over his declared weight.

Stewards sought an explanation from Apprentice M. O’Brien regarding the riding tactics and the overall performance of TEAM THUNDERSTONE. M. O’Brien stated that her instructions were not to bustle the horse in the early stages as it has a tendency to overrace. She added that her mount was left racing a significant distance from the main body of the field due to the quick pace of the race and that the horse would be more suited to races over further distance. Trainer J. Patterson confirmed the instructions adding that the horse would be better suited over further ground, however he had not been able to find a suitable class race and distance. Stewards noted the explanations.

Race 5: Taroom Welding Worx/Des Johnson Memorial Class 3 Plate 1400m

NOT WITHOUT SIN (G. Geran) raced wide from the 800m.
