Leaving the 800m, TIPSY TYCOON shifted in acutely resulting in DR HOUSE shifting in abruptly away from that runner which in turn took GEE AYE GEE GEE and ZEDARK inwards resulting in TINY’S VIEW shifting in abruptly away from ZEDARK. N. Evan’s the rider of TIPSY TYCOON was issued with a severe reprimand for the manner in which he shifted ground.
PRETTY KRISTEL hung out leaving the 500m and then raced ungenerously for a short distance later.
TINY’S VIEW was eased approaching the winning post when TIPSY TYCOON shifted in.
Race 2: Clifford’s Norco Milk/Potters Petroleum Benchmark 65 Handicap 900m
FAIR EXPECTATION (B. Looker) was slow to begin.
DULBYDILLA (B. Ainsworth) and OUR YOUNG LASS (S. Fawke) made heavy contact on jumping away.
BANDERIN (R. Ride) shifted out shortly after the start despite the efforts of the rider taking BOXSA (J. Warrington) out which forced DOUG’S JET (S. Young) across the heels of SEQUALO GOLD (T. Serjeant) and having to be steadied.
Apprentice S. Fawke (OUR YOUNG LASS) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the specifics being that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 500m when not clear of BOXSA which had to be checked and lost ground. S. Fawke’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, to commence at midnight 18 March and to expire on midnight 27 March 2013.
SEQUALO GOLD raced wide throughout and hung out rounding the home turn.
BANDERIN hung in under pressure in the straight.
OUR YOUNG LASS was eased when laying in across the heels of RIVIERAMOSS over the concluding stages.
S. Young the rider of DOUG’S JET which performed below market expectations explained that after being checked at the start her mount then wanted to lay out in the early stages and never travelled at any stage. She added that DOUG’S JET became unbalanced near the 400m when the mare put in an awkward stride resulting her becoming unbalanced.
Race 3: Wilshire/Spar/Town & Country Contractors Class B Handicap 1200m
A pre-race veterinary examination of MR DEEKAY passed the gelding to race.
CROWN NEWS (B. Powell) was slow to begin.
LAST ROAR (G. Snowden) raced wide in the early stages.
Leaving the 800m BEYOND IMAGINATION (G. Geran) which hung out had to be checked from the heels of FLAG ‘N’ FURY (R. Ride).
RIP RIP WOODCHIP (B. Ainsworth) and MAKE ME SOME (S. Young) raced wide throughout.
CARRY THE PRESENT was held up for clear running for a short distance leaving the 300m.
MAKE ME SOME hung out rounding the home turn and on straightening shifted in under pressure.
J. Warrington was fined $200 for using his whip in a forehand manner on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m.
Stewards sought an explanation from S. Fawke with regards to the tactics he adopted on CARRY THE PRESENT, specifically that shortly after the start when beginning well, he restrained his mount to a trailing position. S.Fawke stated that his instructions were to obtain cover from the wide barrier and to ride the horse off the speed as the gelding had not been finishing its races off when racing forward. Trainer C. Hayes confirmed the instructions adding that CARRY THE PRESENT races best when given cover and had raced keenly at its most recent start and had raced forward despite the efforts of the rider. Stewards accepted the explanation.
Race 4: Tenterfield Veterinary Clinic QTIS Maiden Plate 1200m
MY LETHAL PONY (B. Ainsworth) raced wide throughout.
Leaving the 600m IT’S MISTY AGAIN raced in restricted room to the inside of BOWINA (B. Powell) which was taken in by LE BONX CHONX (B. Looker) which shifted in when bumped by MY LETHAL PONY.
Near 400m BOWINA was steadied between IT’S MISTY AGAIN which laid out and LE BONX CHONX which shifted in. B. Looker the rider of LE BONX CHONX was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
A post-race veterinary examination of ROYAL CHANCELLOR which tailed off throughout the race failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer L. Berger was advised that as ROYAL CHANCELLOR was not competitive today he would be required to officially trial the gelding to the satisfaction of stewards prior to being permitted to race again.
