STEWARDS REPORT - SATURDAY, 19TH MAY, 2001

WEATHER:. FINE TRACK: GOOD
RACING
RACE 1 CLASS 6 HCP.1300 METRES - (4 STARTERS): No racing incidents to report.
RACE 2 CLASS 3 HCP. 1300 METRES - (7 STARTERS):. SPIRITED GIRL was difficult to load and fractious in the barrier stalls. SPIRITED GIRL was slow to begin.
RACE 3 OPEN HCP.1075 METRES - (9STARTERS): M. Barnham rider of TOTAL GLANCE was fined the sum of $25 for wearing the incorrect colours.
At the start KEN HE TELL (D. Evans) was slow to begin.
As the gates opened KIM TIGER (D Rewald) was slow to jump.
Approaching the 300 metres D. Rewald the rider of MY FERNO was obliged to steady his mount when he was unable to obtain clear running.
Prior to the declaration of correct weight W. Tomsett rider of WESTERN BAND placed 2nd requested to view the photo finish print.
RACE 4 SUPER QRIS CLASS 1 HCP.1200 METRES - (12 STARTERS): KEL’S PROSPECT (D. Evans) jumped awkwardly.
Approaching the 800 metres S. Quick rider of MIGHTY DEEEARNE was obliged to check her mount as a result of MAHOGANY JET (J. Lait) shifting in when hanging.
Whilst stewards took into consideration submissions of J. Lait they did advise him to exercise care when placed in similar situations.
Upon return to scale D. Simmons rider of MALDWAY placed 2nd by the judge lodged an objection on the grounds of interference over the concluding 200 metres against 1st horse passed the post SPECIAL FIRE ridden by D. Whitmore. Stewards considered all evidence submitted by both riders, trainers and connections of relevant horses and deemed that the protest be dismissed. It was established that approaching the 180 metres SPECIAL FIRE brushed MALDWAY and over the concluding stages SPECIAL FIRE raced tightly with MALDWAY.
RACE 5 MAIDEN HCP. 800 METRES – (8 STARTERS): AUSPICIOUS STAR (M. Allen) jumped outwards at the start and made contact with CLEVER EDITION (W. Welburn). Subsequently AUSPICIOUS STAR then made contact with ANOTHER POWER (D. Whitmore) who was racing to its inside.
Approaching the 200 metres W. Welburn rider of CLEVER EDITION was obliged to stop riding and straighten his mount which was racing greenly.
Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reasons that D. Whitmore rider of ANOTHER POWER became dislodged approximately 100 metres after the start.
RACE 6 CLASS 4 HCP. 800 METRES – (5 STARTERS):. Stewards acting on veterinary advice declared KINCRACHINE a late scratching at 2.35pm.
W. Welburn replaced D. Whitmore as the rider of COUNTY JET due to injuries sustained during the running of race 5.
As the gates opened AMBER BELLE jumped out hampering COUNTY JET (W. Welburn).
BOOKMAKERS: Three bookmakers fielded at the race meeting.
SWABBING: All winners were sent to be swabbed and those obtained forwarded to the Racing Science Centre for routine analysis.
