STEWARDS REPORT - SATURDAY, 4TH AUGUST, 2001

RACING
RACE 1 MAIDEN HCP 1200 METRES - (10 STARTERS):. SOUND OF BELLS was slow to begin.

LION STREET jumped away awkwardly.

Approaching the 800 metres FAIRLY HUMBLE (J. Stephens) shifted in causing TOP BOWL (D. Whitmore) to be momentarily steadied.

RACE 2 CLASS 3 HCP. 1200 METRES - (10 STARTERS):..HIGH FLYER jumped away awkwardly.

SPLENDID SCORE and WHO’S CARING both jumped outwards at the start.

MISTLAK (D. Johnston) veered out abruptly out over the concluding stages and as a result made heavy contact with RUINATION (D. Whitmore) after the winning post.

RACE 3 OPEN HCP.1075 METRES - (9 STARTERS):. Approaching the 800 metres turn HIGH VALOUR (J. Stephens) was crowded for room between NANATAN (L Timson) which was inclined to lay out and DARING MISS (W. Welburn). As a result DARING MISS was forced wider on the track.

RACE 4 CLASS 4 HCP.1400 METRES - (8 STARTERS):. C’MON LARI (D. Johnston) shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.

RACE 5 THANGOOL CUP HCP. 1600 METRES – (12 STARTERS): Stewards accepted trainer K. Smyths’ explanation for his late notification of G.Evans as the rider of INTAJAZ.

No racing incidents to report.

RACE 6 CLASS 2 HCP. 800 METRES – (9 STARTERS): DE CHAMPS was declared a late scratching at 4.25pm after the gelding refused to be loaded into the barriers.

GREY COMMANDER was also declared a late scratching at 4.25pm after the gelding backed out of the barriers and dislodged its rider M. Barnham.

HUGE REGAL was also declared a late scratching at 4.25pm on veterinary advice after the gelding had sustained a back injury after becoming caught in the barriers.

Stewards ordered deductions of 67c for a win and 42c for a place on all successful wagers placed prior to 4.25pm.

Trainer D. Munns was advised that DE CHAMPS must pass an official barrier trial in Rockhampton prior to the gelding being permitted to race again.

BOOKMAKERS: Four bookmakers fielded at the race meeting.

SWABBING: All winners were sent to be swabbed and those obtained forwarded to the Racing Science Centre for routine analysis.
