SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
Re: Gladstone 22/03/2008
Stewards today concluded an inquiry into the reason Regal Regain wore blinkers in the Class 1 Handicap 1194 metres at Gladstone on 22/03/2008. After considering submissions tendered by Trainer D Schultz and mitigating circumstances stewards took no further action but nonetheless reminded Mr Schultz of his responsibilites.
Apprentice G Brown was reprimanded for failing to produce a letter of authority.
Apprentice G Brown was reprimanded for failing to claim down to her riding weight in Race 1 and Race 4.
Race 1: CLASS B HANDICAP - 1075 METRES
1st– PARDON THE PUN 2nd– CERTAIN CIRCLES 3rd– JUST LIKE SEAGAL 4th– INNOCENT ENCOUNTER
WESTERN MAIL (App.G Brown) broke through the barriers prior to the start and travelled a short distance. The gelding was examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.
UMAWAY (L McCoy) jumped out at the start making contact with RALPH’S LOOT (B Agland).
JUST LIKE SEAGAL (S Quick) jumped out at the start making heavy contact with ZERO HARM (App.K Pedron) which shifted out making contact with MUTHAIGA CLUB (D Van Bekkum).
Approaching the 800m JUST LIKE SEAGAL (S Quick) commenced to race ungenerously and shifted in despite the efforts of it’s rider tightening the running of MAROCKET (D Whitmore) which has had to be checked and lost ground.
INNOCENT ENCOUNTER (App.J Kropp) shifted out to obtain clear running near the 150m and made contact with UMAWAY (L McCoy).
UMAWAY (L McCoy) raced wide for the majority.
A Stephens the trainer of JUST LIKE SEAGAL reported the gelding suffered lacerations to it’s near side hind leg during the running of the race.
Race 2 : CLASS 3 PLATE - 1075 METRES
1st – STAR OF MINTO 2nd – IMPULSIVE PARTNERS 3rd – BEAUTIFUL DIVKA 4th – SON OF WAR
No incidents in running.
Race 3 : QTIS CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1400 METRES
1st – URGENT SEA 2nd – HEZABURRABOY 3rd – KALINGA BLAZE 4th – TANTIC POSER
REELIN AND ROCKING (R Hall) was slow to begin.
Approaching the 400m NOTHIN LEICA MINTO (App.G Brown) which was tiring shifted in tightening the running of REELIN AND ROCKING (R Hall) which has had to be steadied and shift in making contact with the running rail. NOTHIN LEICA MINTO then shifted out hampering CYCLONE GEORGE (D Van Bekkum). At a subsequent inquiry Apprentice G Brown was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
When questioned into the seemingly disappointing performance of NOTHIN LEICA MINTO Apprentice Brown stated the gelding travelled well until the 600m and when placed under pressure failed to respond to her riding and tired. A post race veterinary examination of NOTHIN LEICA MINTO failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative D Ward for Trainer B Johnson gave stewards an undertaking to advise if anything came to light in the next few days that would have had a bearing on today’s performance.
Apprentice D Evans the rider of KALINGA BLAZE was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the finish.
Race 4: MAIDEN PLATE - 800 METRES
1st – CASHUPNOTICK 2nd – SHY BUCK 3rd – JOVIAL JOKE 4th – TAVERN TRAPPER
DOCTOR TEETH and COSSACK LADY were both declared late scratching’s at 11:45am due to no rider’s being available.
ROCKING MELODY (App.K Pedron) was declared a late scratching by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice at 3:32pm after the mare became fractious in the barriers sustaining lacerations to both hind legs. Prior to correct weight being declared stewards ordered all monies invested on ROCKING MELODY to be refunded and that all successful wagers be subject to deductions of 21 cents on the face value of all win bets and 17 cents on the face value of all place bets be applicable. C Garland stable representative for trainer A Garland was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare’s barrier manners.
JUSTOUTASKOOL (App.S Mossman) was tightened for room at the start between JAIMEE’S WAY (B Agland) which shifted out and ICE MOVER (S Quick) which shifted in.
Approaching the 700m GUNJAIR (App.D Evans) which was laying in had to be steadied off the heels of TAVERN TRAPPER (D Van Bekkum).
Race 5: OPEN HANDICAP - 800 METRES
1st – CALL THE ROLL 2nd – KOUNELI 3rd – THE HAND 4th – I DARED
THE HAND (L McCoy) and CALL THE ROLL (S Quick) were both slow to begin.
I DARED (App.D Evans) and DREAMS OF WEALTH (R Hall) made heavy contact on jumping when both horses shifted ground.
FEARS (App.K Pedron) hung out rounding the home turn forcing I DARED (App.D Evans) wider on the track. M Courtney the trainer of FEARS was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.
