SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT- Wednesday 14th April 2010
Stewards continued an inquiry opened on Saturday 27th March, 2010 into the use of the whip by Apprentice A. Taylor from the Rockhampton Jockey Club race meeting on Saturday 13th March, 2010. Apprentice A. Taylor was found guilty of 2 breaches of AR 137A (5) (a) (ii) in that when she rode PENNY STIRLING and LAWFUL LEA, that prior to the 100m she used her whip in a forehand manner on more than 5 occasions and also a charge under AR 137A (4) (c) in that when she rode TRUTHFUL LEA she used her whip when that runner was out of contention. After consideration was given to various submissions in regard to penalty, Stewards issued a total fine of $400 for breaches of AR 137A (5) (a) (ii) and was further reprimanded for using her whip when her mount was out of contention.
Race 1: 35 Club Maiden Plate- 1075 metres
1st –MAKKA PAKKA 2nd – LET’S BE MARY 3rd – DARRAFLYER 4th – HOGTIE
At the start, PRINCE PIERCE (D. Whitmore) and LET’S BE MARY (A. Coome) made contact.
SET ME FREE (M. Cant) jumped away awkwardly.
Shortly after the start, TOMARY FLAME (L. Dillon) raced ungenerously for a short distance, and as a result of shifting around, lost some ground. HOGTIE (M. Cullen), which was racing to the inside, had to be steadied and shifted to the outside and commenced to race greenly throughout.
At approximately the 900 metres, PRINCE PIERCE, which was inclined to over race in the middle stages, shifted out and was steadied from the heels of MONASHEE DEVIL (S. Evans)
At approximately the 800 metres, PRINCE PIERCE and ONLY FRIENDS (R. Hall) shifted wider on the track and raced wide for the remainder of the race.
DARRA FLYER (App. H O’Hara) raced wide throughout.
SET ME FREE (M. Cant) was held up for clear running from approximately the 400 metres until straightening, at which point the mare had to be restrained from the heels of TOMARY FLAME.
At approximately the 100 metres, ONLY FRIENDS was placed in restricted room and steadied when racing between HOGTIE and MONASHEE DEVIL.
Race 2: The Photo Centre Biloela Class B Handicap- 1075 metres
1st - MONASHEE STAR 2nd – BEACH KINGS 3rd – HASARUSH 4th – SEA GOING
CAN’T BE TOLD (A. Coome) was slow to begin.
IT’S ELEMENTARY (D. Whitmore) and MARYWHO (S. Evans) made heavy contact on jumping away.
HASARUSH (App K Yoneyama) was a little slow to begin.
CAN’T BE TOLD raced wide in the early and middle stages.
CODA (S. Sheargold) raced wide throughout.
At the winning post BEACH KINGS (App A Taylor) shifted out abruptly, when it appeared to shy away from MONASHEE STAR.
When questioned as to the performance of IT’S ELEMENTARY, Jockey D. Whitmore stated that while the gelding had travelled well early, from approximately the 900 metres, IT’S ELEMENTARY had changed stride throughout and was of the opinion the gelding was not suited racing on the tight turning track, particularly in the clockwise direction. Jockey Whitmore further stated he had placed the gelding under pressure from approximately the 500 metres, however his mount did not respond to his riding and failed to run on.
Stewards will inquire into an incident at approximately the 100 metres in which IT’S ELEMENTARY was hampered.
Race 3: Burleigh Estates Open Handicap- 1075 metres
1st - PROVENZANO 2nd – GENERAL NONSENSE 3rd – SYMATINA 4th – MINI MAIZING
STRONG TEMPO (M. Cullen) and DUBAI CELEBRATION (N. Patchett) both broke through the barriers prior to the start. Both runners were quickly restrained, and after undergoing veterinary inspections, were cleared to start.
MINI MAIZING (App K Yoneyama) raced wide from approximately the 800 metres.
Race 4: Biloela Hotel Class B Handicap- 1200 metres
1st – TOKYO TANGO 2nd – ALL ROYAL 3rd – TOMKINS 4th – SATZERO
TOKYO TANGO (L. Dillon) was fractious in the barrier.
ALL ROYAL (R. Hall) jumped out and made contact with TOKYO TANGO.
At approximately the 900 metres, TUSCAN BEAUTY (M .Cant) shifted in slightly when not clear of SATZERO (S. Evans) which had to be restrained. Jockey M. Cant was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
From approximately the 800 metres, MANDS BOND (App H. O’Hara) improved wide on the track and raced wide for the remainder.
MONA STAR (App K Yoneyama) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Correct weight was delayed to allow Apprentice A. Taylor (TOMKINS) to view the photo finish print for second. As App. Taylor was satisfied as to the judge’s placings, Stewards declared correct weight.
When questioned as the performance of TOKYO TANGO, Trainer A Johnson stated the gelding had competed well in its previous start and, while he was of the opinion the gelding would take benefit from the run today, he was confident the gelding would be competitive and appreciate the distance of today’s event.
Race 5: On Kariboe Class 3 Plate - 1400 metres
1st - TWO TONE 2nd - ACE IN THE HOLE 3rd – TAYANSO 4th – IMA NOTE
At the start, ACE IN THE HOLE (L. Dillon) was severely tightened between TAYANSO (App H O’Hara) which had began awkwardly and LET’S GO BONGO (N. Patchett) both of which had shifted ground.
From approximately the 1200 metres IN BOLD FASHION (M. Barnham) commenced to over race and continued to do so until approximately the 800 metres.
MY BEAUTY (S. Evans) and SUPER FELIX (M. Cullen) raced wide throughout.
At approximately the 800 metres, LET’S GO BONGO shifted wide to improve and raced wide for the remainder.
Correct weight was delayed to allow the connections of IMA NOTE to view the photo finish print from third. As Mr G. Christoff was satisfied as to the judge’s placings, Stewards declared correct weight.
