STEWARDS REPORT
TOWNSVILLE TURF CLUB
SATURDAY 10TH JULY 1999.


Stewards: WJ Bethel, WC Bird, M Braunberger, J McIntosh, H Warren, T Harding.
Weather: Fine Track: Fast.

RACE 1 2YO HANDICAP 1300 METRES 8 STARTERS.
Prior to the start, EXPECIAL and TITAN’S TOY became fractious in the boxes and dislodged their riders, R Gallacher and M Deguara, both receiving minor leg injuries. The riders were examined by ambulance bearers and of their own opinion, the riders declared themselves fit to tide. TITAN’S TOY for the second time has to be released from the boxes and was passed unfit to start and was scratched 12:10 p.m. on vet’s advice. Trainers of TITAN’S TOY and ESPECIALE were advised the horses must pass a Barrier Test to Stewards satisfaction before starting, under Terms LR 36 (b). ROSE TYCOON received lacerations to off side, from the hooves of ESPECIALE when that cold became fractious. MR. HOLLYFIELD was slow into stride when the start was effected. Prior to correct weight, all monies invested on TITAN’S TOY is to be refunded and deductions of 7c win and 8c place be made on bets above the line.

RACE 2 CLASS 6 HANDICAP 1200 METRES 8 STARTERS
Jockey M McDuff was fined %50 for excessive overweight on TARRASON and was replaced by M Cullen.
COLLINGWOOD, PAKAS FLYER and TARRASON brushed when the start was effected as did TONCETTO and LORD DANZIG.

RACE 3 3YO MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 METRES 9 STARTERS
REBEL ROYAL jumped with it’s head in the air when the gates opened. DON’T ASK has to be eased off the heels of DANCING CZAR near 1000 metres when over racing. CATTLE KING was unable to obtain a clear run near 300 metre mark. REBEL ROYAL wanted to lay inward over the concluding stages inconveniencing the rider M Deguara.

RACE 4 CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1000 METRES 9 STARTERS
Jockey P Cullen was fined $50 for excessive overweight and was replaced by R Gallacher as the rider of HEELS OF FORTUNE.
When the gates opened: HEELS OF FORTUNE was slow into stride, PAPER BARK ROAD raced ungenerously in the early stages. Near the 200 metre mark, MY LEGEND was severely hampered when attempting a run between MEMOR (F Edwards) and PAPER BARK ROAD (D Crossland) when MEMOR shifted out and PAPER BARK ROAD shifted in, resulting in MY LEGEND being checked. As a consequence, Stewards deemed Jockey F Edwards and App D Crossland were responsible for the incident. D Crossland and F Edwards were severely reprimanded.

RACE 5 CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1000 METRES 13 STARTERS
When the start was effected, SOLOMON PRINCE jumped inward and hampered HUE AND CRY, DANCE THE HEIGHTS, which was obliged to ease and in turn SCOOP and HAPPY GATHERING. Stewards were satisfied that the rider of SOLOMON PRINCE attempted to ease the pressure immediately, but SOLOMON PRINCE was reluctant to respond. Jockey M Cullen was reprimanded for allowing WHISKEY HEART to shift out and hamper NORCROSS near 250 metre mark.

RACE 6 OPEN HANDICAP 1300 METRES 12 STARTERS
Jockey M McDuff was fined $100 under terms AR 83 (a) for attempting to deceive the clerk of Scales. He was advised, if found guilty of a similar offence in the future, a more severe penalty could be imposed. He then was replaced by R Gallacher as the rider of ROCKING REGGIE. S Edhouse replaced P Cullen as the rider of ARROGANT PASSION. When the gates opened MR. BES. Blundered and lost ground. REGAL DEMON jumped inward and hampered APPROVE. Jockey M Deguara was reprimanded for failing to relieve the pressure immediately. Jockey R Gallacher reported that his saddle shifted near 1000 metre mark, and he was inconvenienced throughout the race. Jockey S Edhouse was reprimanded for allowing ARROGANT PASSION to cover unnecessary ground at the home turn, resulting in ROYAL ADVANCE and MR. BEST which were racing on his outside, to be forced towards the outside fence and lose ground. Jockeys F Edwards, and App were again reprimanded for allowing their mounts to shift inward after the winning post resulting in STEP ABOARD, ROCKING REGGIE and NASSILE to be severely hampered for room and could have resulted in a more serious incident.

RACE 7 CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1640 METRES 11 STARTERS
WILL HE TWIG was inclined to lay inward near 1000 metre mark. TASKIN has to be eased near 500 metre mark when over racing to avoid the heels of PARTY KING.

RACE 8 CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1400 METRES 10 STARTERS
S Edhouse replaced M McDuff as the rider of ROYAL AMBER
SPRITELY EVITA and DRAWN SABRE came together when the start was effected. REGAL CLASS was slow into stride, the gelding was obliged to cover ground throughout the race which may have effected his chance in the race.

RACE 9 CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1400 METRES 10 STARTERS
App Ms C Murphy replaced M McDuff as the rider of CRYSTAL POWER when no senior rider was available. S Edhouse replaced P Cullen as the rider of TROPICAL MORN. Jockey M Deguara succumbed to his injuries he received earlier in the day and was replaced as the rider of MISTER MO by M Cullen.
REGAL RACER jumped outward at the start. KENNY’S WONDER and BETWEEN THE LINES came together at the start. No other incidents in running.
