NORTH QLD AMA RACE CLUB – TOWNSVILLE
FRIDAY 27TH AUGUST 1999.

Weather: Fine Track: Fast.
RACE 1 MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000 METRES 13 STARTERS.
At the barriers, TUDOR JAMES (R Gallacher) proved difficult to load, and when the gates opened, lost considerable ground and near the 550 mark eased out over the heels of FAUN (C Whiteley).who collided with INTANGIBLEW on jumping away.
When the gates opened BETTER UNION (D Crossland) jumped inwards onto CLEAR OBSESSION (E Cullen). BENICON (R Griffiths) was inconvenienced by TUDOR JAMES which subsequently caused COVER STOREY(C Clarke) and ROYAL RAIDER (G Watson) to be hampered. In running – Apprentice D Crossland reported that BETTER UNION was inclined to hang out. The connections of TUDOR JAMES were advised to correct the barrier behaviour of the gelding.
RACE 2 CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1000 METRES 11 STARTERS
At the start: LAGER BAY (N Paine) was fractious, GLUTTON (Ms R Seymour) was slow away and FLOTASHAN (D Crossland) jumped inwards hampering BENTLEY BAY (C Whiteley). In running GUITAR (R Mules) was inclined to hang from the 800 to the turn.
RACE 3 FILLIES & MARES CLASS 3 HCP 1200 METRES 8 STARTERS
R Ryan was the replacement rider for A Martin, on SWEETENER (NZ)
When the gates opened: COURTLEY ROSE (F Edwards) jumped outwards, hampering SILVER LINER (D Crossland).
RACE 4 SUPER QRIS 3YO CLASS 4 HCP 1200 METRES 10 STARTERS
At the start: JACOBS JOKER (F Edwards) was difficult to load and on jumping away was awkward into stride.
RACE 5 CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1000 METRES 15 STARTERS
R Mules was the replacement rider of SAM’S MATE when the declared rider, K Rockett, was unavailable.
At the start: NEDEAL (A Molino) dwelt and lost considerable ground when the gated opened. Stewards inquired into an incident at about the 600, and after hearing evidence and viewing the film, reprimanded app D Crossland for allowing his mount TELLING BLOW to move in when not sufficiently clear of GONE COUNTRY (K Ballard) who in turn caused SAM’S MATE (R Mules) to be hampered.
RACE 6 OPEN HANDICAP 1000 METRES 11 STARTERS
At the start: SLATER (C Whiteley) was marginally slow to move when the gates opened and as a consequence was inconvenienced between NOTHING TO HIDE (d Crossland) and PROSPECTOR CHIEF (W Cullen) Near the 750 mark, PRINCETON BAY (r Griffiths) was hampered by ROSENEATH JESTER (App M Campbell) who was inclined to hang out and become unbalanced.
RACE 7 CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1400 METRES 10 STARTERS
Stewards conducted an inquiry into an incident near the 600 mark, and after hearing evidence from the rider of EXPLOSIVE BOY Chris Whiteley, who was reluctant to support the observations of the Stewards, that jockey Frank Edwards had allowed his mount NATIVE PLAY to move in when not sufficiently clear of INCRIMINATE (N Paine). No action was taken.
RACE 8 CLASS 6 HANDICAP 1400 METRES 12 STARTERS
At the start: KENNETH (P Cullen) left the stalls awkwardly. Stewards conducted an inquiry into an incident near the 650 mark. After hearing evidence from Jockey M McDuff the rider of WILL HE TWIG, who declined to support the observations of the stewards that Jockey I Toward had permitted his mount to move out when not sufficiently clear of WILL HE TWIG, no action was taken.
All winners were sent to be swabbed.
