RACE 1 MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 METRES 12 STARTERS
Riding changes:, K Pope replaced the declared rider M McDuff who had advised Stewards of his intentions not to fulfil his riding engagements for the day. F Edwards replaced r Ryan who informed Stewards that, due to a medical problem, he would not be available to ride Susie Que.
At the start: GRAND SALIERI (R Moses) was fractious and lost some ground when the gates opened. Near the 800 GO RUBEN (K Pope) was inclined to hang out losing some ground. Approaching the home turn, SUSIE QUE (F Edwards) had to be restrained off the heels of COHESION (D Crossland). An inquiry was held into interference to LOCK ‘N’ LOAD ridden by Jockey GD Kliese at about the 150 metre mark. After hearing evidence and viewing the film, Jockey R Moses, the rider of GRAND SALIERI was charged under ARR 137a with Careless Riding, and suspended from riding in races to include the 31st December 1999.
RACE 2 MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 METRES 12 STARTERS
GD Kliese replaced M McDuff as the rider for DON’T ASK.
DOUBLE HAPPINESS (W Kenning) was reluctant to ender the stalls. CATCH A CAB (K Pope) was slow to move and PRINCE REILL (R Moses) jumped awkwardly when the gates opened. DOUBLE HAPINESS (W Kenning) jumped inwards hampering GRAND FLOWER (F Edwards). HIS LORDSHIP (s Watkin) was inclined to over race going to the 950 mark and had to be restrained off the heels of PENDANT (P Cullen)
RACE 3 3YO CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1200 METRES 12 STARTERS
Jockey W Kenning replaced McDuff as the rider for MULARPY. Jockey S Watkin replaced L Nelson as the rider for OUR RAIN MAKER. Nelson was fined $100 under ARR 120b for accepting a ride for which he was unable to make the weight.
WONG SIGN (K Pope) blundered on jumping away. CHOSEN CALIBRE (GD Kliese) jumped inwards hampering GREY DEVOTION (I Toward). An Inquiry was held into interference to KWILA’S QUEST ridden by Jockey Frank Edwards, and FLAME ‘N’ FORTUNE (P Cullen) also TINSELTOWN LADY (R Moses), at about the 1100 metre mark. After hearing evidence and viewing the Video film of the race, Jockey Mathew Bennett the rider of VAIN VIRGINIAN, was found guilty of a charge of Careless Riding under the Terms of ARR 137a, and suspended from riding in races from midnight Wednesday the 15th December to midnight on Saturday 18th December ’99.
RACE 4 CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1000 METRES 10 STARTERS
Jockey Ian Toward was fined $50 for failing (AR8E) to wear the correct colours when directed to do so by the Stewards.
At the start: COUNT SWIFTLY (D Crossland) jumped in and hampered DUSTY OVERDRIVE (J Long), UNARMED (R Moses) jumped awkwardly. Near the 200 mark, EARTHQUAKE (S Hetherington) had to be eased to avoid the heels of KAPUNDA (App M Guthrie) who was inclined to race erratically.
RACE 5 2YO FILLIES QUALITY H/CAP 1000 METRES 9 STARTERS
Jockey F Edwards was the replacement rider for BRITTANY MAY when Michael McDuff was unavailable to fulfil his riding engagements. SPRITELY MISS was a late scratching from the race by Stewards when it was found that due to a Traffic Accident, the filly had not arrived at the course by the required time. Prior to the correct weight being declared, Stewards decided that all monies invested on the withdrawn horse be refunded less a deduction of 9cents a Win and 9 cents a place from the face value of Win Best above the line in betting ledgers.
At the start: BRITTANY MAY and SPRITELY MISS brushed when the gates opened. An Inquiry was held into interference to LIGUALA ridden by Jockey Peter Cullen, at about the 900 meter mark. After hearing the evidence and viewing the film, App Jamie Long, the rider of MAHATTA was charged and pleaded guilty , to a charge of Careless Riding under the terms of ARR 137a and subsequently suspended from riding in races to include the 25th December 1999.
RACE 6 CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1000 METRES 10 STARTERS
GD Kliese replaced McDuff as the rider for CROPTHORNE.
At the start: MOQUET LEE (App J Long) jumped awkwardly on to the heels of ANALYTIC (R Pujolas) and had to be checked. TEMPTING (S Hetherington) retuned to the enclosure lame in the near fore leg.
RACE 7 CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1400 METRES 12 STARTERS
Jockey M Tolley replaced McDuff as the rider for RECONNAISSANCE. F Edwards replaced r Ryan as the rider for PROFLIGATE.
At the start: NEXT IN LINE (P Cullen) shifted out soon after jumping away, causing a general tightening to horses immediately outside. Near the 750, MADAME’S NEDIYM (L Nelson) eased behind BEST ASCENT (K Pope) which resulted in FRAADAY (A Molino) being inconvenienced.
RACE 8 CLASS 6 HANDICAP 1400 METRES 12 STARTERS
Jockey M Tolley replaced McDuff as the rider for SADDLERS SON,
MISS LLADRO (G Cullen) became fractious when placed in the gates. KNIGHT TIME (S Hetherington) was inclined to over race and hang out during the race.
Stewards inquired into an incident near the 150 mark. After hearing evidence and viewing the film, it was established that MISS LLADRO (G Cullen) had to be checked when racing between BRILLIAN SPY (F Edwards) and KASHTAN KID (E Kowald). No action was taken other than to inform the riders of their obligation to stop riding and straighten their mounts.
RACE 9 OPEN HANDICAP 1200 METRES 11 STARTERS
Jockey P Cullen replaced M McDuff as the rider for KENNETH .
BEYOND SPACE (S Hetherington) was difficult to load.
All winners were sent to be swabbed.
Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey Michael McDuff as to why he failed to honour his riding engagements on the day. McDuff informed Stewards that he was not feeling well from wasting endeavouring to get his riding weight down. After hearing the evidence , Stewards were mindful not to accept his explanation and a charge under the Terms of ARR 120(b) was brought. Having regard to the number of past convictions for having breached the rule, a period of suspension was imposed commencing on Friday the 10th December 1999 to include the 31st December 1999.
