RACE 1 MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 METRES 6 STARTERS
COWBOY BILL began awkwardly and shied in and away from FAUN shortly after the start losing ground. COWBOY BILL continued to race greenly throughout the event. This was bought to the attention of trainer N Donaldson.

RACE 2 CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1000 METRES 10 STARTERS
TIME FLIES BYE reared at the start losing ground. BLUE GALAXY bled from both nostrils during the event and acting under the provisions of AR53 A, BLUE GALAXY was declared ineligible to race for a period of three months.

RACE 3 CLASS 6 HANDICAP 1000 METRES 8 STARTERS
At the 800 metres COOL AND REGAL which was hanging in was steadied off the heels of CENTURY TIP. Approaching the 600 metres, COOL AND REGAL had to be steadied when racing between CENTURY TIP and EXPORTING which shifted out to improve. GROWING CONCERN and EXPORTING were held up for clear runs making the home turn and for some distance in the straight. After passing the 200 metre mark, GROWING CONCERN shifted around the heels of LAGER BAY to take a run, and as a consequence EASILY EXCITED had to be steadied. Jockey R Gallacher (GROWING CONCERN) was severely reprimanded for shifting ground when not completely clear. At the 150 metres GROWING CONCERN was placed in restricted room when attempting a run to the inside of LAGER BAY which shifted in marginally.

RACE 4 3YO CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1000 METRES 10 STARTERS
Trainer G O'Dea was advised that CANADIAN TIME which had delayed the start when refusing to load would be required to pass a satisfactory Barrier Test before being permitted to race again. CANADIAN TIME was slow into stride. SEA LOVER jumped out and collided with DASH O'LUCK, SEA LOVER was crowded for room shortly after the start by BRITTANY MAY which was taken out by PEE JAY BLUE. Passing the 150 metre mark CARBON GOLD which had been racing greenly shifted in abruptly across the heels of ALL PO. Approaching the 100 metre mark ALL PO was disappointed for a run between PEE JAY BLUE and SEA LOVER and failed to secure clear running thereafter. A post race veterinary examination of CLAIMED revealed the filly to be lame in the near hind leg.

RACE 5 CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1400 METRES 9 STARTES
Jockey J Felix was found guilty of contravening AR 87 D in that he had in his possession a Safety Vest which had been modified. After considering all the evidence the Jockey's Licence of J Felix was suspended for one month to commence midnight 20/8/00 up to and including 20/9/00. When accessing penalty, Stewards took into account a direction that had been given to all riders in relation to this matter. ROYAL AMBER commenced to hang out after passing the 700 metres and it was noted that Jockey C Whiteley was unable to fully test ROYAL AMBER down the running as a consequence. Jockey GD Kliese was questioned regarding the disappointing performance of RUFUS EM. Jockey Kliese advised that RUFUS EM had travelled well in running and when asked for an effort rounding the home turn, RUFUS EM was unable to run on and that he was at a loss to explain the poor performance. A veterinary examination of RUFUS EM revealed no abnormalities and the gelding was sent to be swabbed. Trainer E Covell reported to Stewards that on Saturday 19th August 2000, a further veterinary examination revealed the horse to have sustained a stone bruise on the near side fore leg, and in face RUFUS EM was showing some signs of lameness as a result.

RACE 6 CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1200 METRES 10 STARTERS.
Approaching the 200 metres SHAWNO was tightened for room between KILMARNOCK and TUDOR JAMES which shifted out under pressure. Jockey R Gallacher (TUDOR JAMES) was reprimanded for allowing his horse to shift ground at that point. LIKEABLE LAIR was held up for clear running in the straight. SHAWNO bled from both nostrils at the completion of the event and was declared ineligible to race for a period of 3 months AR 53 A.

RACE 7 OPEN HANDICAP 1200 METRES 11 STARTERS
BEYOND SPACE and BOWASTA brushed shortly after the start. Jockey J Cairns (BOWASTA) was charged and found guilty of contravening AR 137A by riding in a careless manner approaching the 850 metre mark by allowing BOWASTA to shift in when not clear of BEYOND SPACE resulting in BEYOND SPACE being checked. The jockeys licence of J Cairns was suspended from riding in races to commence midnight 19/8/00 up to and including 1/9/00 (3 meetings). After passing the 800 metres BOLD PLAY commenced to hang out.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.

GENERAL:
Jockey R Gallacher was fined $50 for using a mobile phone in the saddling paddock area prior to runners weighing out for Race 1 - AR 160 b (3). In accessing penalty Stewards accepted the explanation of R Gallacher in relation to the purpose of the phone call.

Trainer R Caught was fined $50 for racing MUSTAWAY at Cairns on 11/8/00 without a tongue tie in contradiction to the Stable Return lodged. LR 82 (2)
