RACE 1 CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1400 METRES 4 STARTERS
No Incidents.
RACE 2 CLASS 6 HANDICAP 1200 METRES 7 STARTERS
RED RASCAL stood flat-footed at the start and lost ground. Passing the 500 metres RED RASCAL shifted out and bumped GRUYERE FLYER. Making the home turn RED RASCAL continued to shift out and made contact with GRUYERE FLYER forcing that horse wider on the track. On returning to scale REGAL BARD bled from both nostrils and acting under the terms of AR53(A) REGAL BARD was declared ineligible to race for a period of 3 months.
RACE 3 CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1200 METRES 8 STARTERS
Jockey J Felix was fined $50 for accepting 2 rides on ENSIGN and NOVACAN in this event. D Lloyd was the replacement rider for NOVACAN. Making the first turn ENSIGN commenced to over race. Passing the 800 metres FOX DOCTOR had to be checked off the heels of Ensign as the pace steadied. Making the home turn CLAN WOLF which was racing ungenerously shifted out hampering NOVACAN. CLAN WOLF continued to race ungenerously in the straight. Approaching the 100 metres SHODAMA was tightened for room between ENSIGN and FOX DOCTOR which shifted in. At an inquiry Jockey J Cairns was severely reprimanded for allowing FOX DOCTOR to shift in and failing to stop riding and straighten his mount earlier than he did. Ar137(a). It was also established that ENSIGN had shifted out marginally which had compounded the incident. A veterinary examination of SHODAMA revealed the gelding to have sustained lesions on both hind legs.
RACE 4 2YO MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 METRES 13 STARTERS
REGAL HUN, BIG BOUND and OZ LANDING were all slow to begin. After passing the 100 metres CREDIT LIMIT shifted out abruptly to obtain clear running and hampered RAJALOOKOO. Jockey G Kliese (CREDIT LIMIT) was advised to exercise care when shifting ground.
RACE 5 MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000 METRES 9 STARTERS
Due to R Mules being indisposed due to injury D Lloyd replaced him on SPECIAL SLOT. BOLD TOBY and SOVEREIGN SQUAW were both slow to begin. LUSTY RACER was tightened for room at the start between OUR OZBOY and WINDERMERE LADY both of which shifted ground. TITAN’S TOY when struck with the whip at the 300 metres shifted in and struck the running rail. EXPRESS DANCER raced greenly over the concluding stages and shifted in when struck with the whip. Jockey F Edwards was obliged to stop riding and straighten EXPRESS DANCER.
RACE 6 CLASS 6 HANDICAP 1960 METRES 9 STARTERS
D Lloyd replaced R Mules on CHINA CLASSIC. Jockey R Pujolas (DAPPER JOEL) was charged and found guilty of contravening AR137(a)by causing LOVE THAT MOON to be checked approaching the 500 metres when he shifted DAPPER JOEL out to improve. The Jockey’s Licence of R Pujolas was suspended from riding in races to commence midnight 7th April 2001 up to and including the 14th April 2001 (2 meetings). In assessing penalty stewards took into account the good riding record of Jockey R Pujolas. The veterinary surgeon reported that DAPPER JOEL was extremely distressed in the swab stall following the event and in his opinion suffering from heat stress.
RACE 7 WEIGHT FOR AGE 1400 METRES 9 STARTERS
STARWOOD was inspected by the club veterinary surgeon prior to the start and passed fit to start. Making the first turn HORSE PLAY commenced to over race. At the 350 metres INNUENDO attempted a run to the outside of the heels of FOREIGN MONARCH however was disappointed for the run when held in the pocket by TOGNOTTI who made contact with INNUENDO. It was noted that Jockey J Cairns (INNUENDO) fumbled for the whip after passing the 200 metres. A post-race veterinary examination of STARWOOD revealed no abnormalities.
RACE 8 3YO FILLIES CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1000 METRES 14 STARTERS
Stewards permitted Jockey M Gray to replace Apprentice D Johnson on JENIE IRENE due to transport problems. D Lloyd was the replacement rider for WOODSLOT. SOURCE OF INCOME jumped awkwardly losing ground. Jockey J Cairns and Trainer G O’Dea were questioned regarding the disappointing performance of LANDING TIME. Trainer O’Dea advised that LANDING TIME had worked well in the lead up to to-days event and that he had been reasonably confident of the fillies chances. Jockey Cairns advised that after beginning well LANDING TIME was never on the bit and that he had to push the horse along from the 600 metres. Jockey Cairns advised that LANDING TIME failed to run on as expected. The veterinary examination of LANDING TIME revealed no abnormalities. The explanation of both parties was noted.
