TOWNSVILLE TURF CLUB
SATURDAY 2ND JUNE 2001

Weather: Fine Track: Fast
Stewards: D Griffiths (Chairman), W Bethel, M Braunberger
Rail: Out 3 metres from the 1000 metres to the winning post.

RACE 1 MAIDEN HANDICAP 1400 METRES 7 STARTERS
BOB WHO which was having its first race start was difficult to load. At the 1000 metres BOB WHO commenced to hang out and race ungenerously. CENTURY SUNSET which was trailing was hampered in this incident. BOB WHO continued to hang out throughout the event. Trainer B Chessher was advised that BOB WHO will be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards before being permitted to race again. Jockey J Long the rider of BOB WHO was fined $50 for using the whip on the horse when it was uncompetitive. AR137A(2b).

RACE 2 CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1640 METRES 6 STARTERS
OURIMBAH reared on two occasions in the barriers and delayed the start. Trainer L Manzelmann reported that OURIMBAH had been suffering from an abcess in the mouth and felt that this may have contributed to the performance of the horse. Stewards issued a warning to Trainer L Manzelmann concerning the barrier manners of OURIMBAH. Mr Manzelmann was also reprimanded for failing to notify any condition that may have affected the horses chances under the terms of AR140(b). As the start was effected STORM GOD reared and dislodged Jockey Jason Stopps. Due to mitigating circumstances the stewards took no further action in the matter other than to issue Trainer T Butts with a warning concerning the matter. Jockey J Stopps was examined by the club ambulance officer and passed fit to take further rides.

RACE 3 CLASS 6 HANDICAP 1970 METRES 6 STARTERS
DAPPER JOEL was slow to begin. It was noted that TRIDEKA was held up for a clear run until the 250 metres. Trainer L Manzelmann reported that DAPPER JOEL had pulled up lame in the off fore fetlock.

RACE 4 CLASS 6 HANDICAP 1200 METRES 5 STARTERS
KORN JULIO was inspected by the club veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start after Trainer D Crouch reported the gelding had sustained a superficial laceration to the head in a floating incident on route to the course. RED RASCAL was slow to begin.

RACE 5 2YO HANDICAP 1200 METRES 11 STARTERS
ROSS REGENT was a late scratching at 3:17pm by order of the stewards when the gelding refused to load. Trainer K Golden was advised that ROSS REGENT will be required to pass a satisfactory barrier trial before being permitted to race again. Deductions of 27 cents the win and 19 cents the place were imposed on all bets made above the line prior to the withdrawal of ROSS REGENT.

RACE 6 CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200 METRES 13 STARTERS
KEPPEL LAIR was slow to begin. REGAL PLEASURE, MAN ABOVE and CIRCO were hampered at the start between EVENSONG and TORRENT which jumped out. Making the first turn PROUD MOGUL commenced to race ungenerously and lost ground. SHATIN hung out for the majority of the event. PROUD MOGUL when placed under pressure faultered momentarily at 250 metres and Jockey D Sewell advised that he was of the opinion the gelding may have been suffering an injury and as such did not fully test the horse to the finish line. The veterinary examination of PROUD MOGUL revealed no abnormalities. Jockey J Ramsden (KEPPEL LAIR) was fined $50 for using the whip excessively on that gelding over the final 300 metres. RACE 7 OPEN HANDICAP 1400 METRES 9 STARTERS
An inquiry was opened into the reason for LE FLAMBEUR being checked on the finish line. After taking evidence from Jockeys R Pujolas (LE FLAMBEUR), D Lloyd (POWER PACK), Apprentice C Murphy (MR STEINY) and I Coombes (FOREIGN MONARCH) it was established that MR STEINY had shifted out marginally and as a consequence POWER PACK was taken out hampering LE FLAMBEUR. It was also noted that LE FLAMBEUR when placed in restricted room as a result of this incident may have attempted to savage POWER PACK. Taking into account all matters the stewards took no further action other to advise all riders to exercise care in similar circumstances.

RACE 8 CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1000 METRES 7 STARTERS
Jockey R Pujolas was distressed after riding in race 7 and was replaced on OUR NEW TOY by J Felix. Jockey I Coombes (TURNPIKE) was severely reprimanded for weighing out with the wrong colours. No racing incidents.
