TOWNSVILLE TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SATURDAY30/11/02

STEWARDS PANEL: W Bethel (Chairman), R Smith, M Braunberger, M Stehbens

WEATHER –Fine . TRACK: -Fast RAIL – True

RACE 1:.3YO MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000 Metres

SCARLET LACE jumped awkwardly and was slow into stride. OUR FRISKY FILLY was hampered slightly at the start when STAGE KING jumped outward. Near the 300 metre mark ALL FRISKY was racing ungenerously and had to be eased off the heels of BELLE ROUGE. Over the concluding stages, the saddle of ROMAN CHARIOT shifted, placing its rider in some difficulty. Jockey R Gallacher reported that he had injured his neck in the Barrier and would be unable to complete his remaining engagements. A medical clearance will be required before riding again.

RACE 2: CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1300 Metres

Jockey A Cox reported that CRAFTY CAROUSEL was reluctant to hold its position near the 550 metre mark when racing to the inside of GRANTON and blamed no other horse or rider. LITTLE BULLA SPUR hung inward after straightening and continued to do so to the winning post. As a consequence W Kenning was unable to test the gelding completely. Trainer J Bell informed Stewards that she will endeavour to seek a right handed whip rider in future where ever possible.

RACE 3:OPEN HANDICAP – 1630 Metres

ALLEZ SLEW raced ungenerously near the 1400 metre mark and was reluctant to settle. Jockey A Molino was obliged to stop riding and straighten his mount SUPER SNOOP over the concluding stages when that gelding shifted in when under pressure. Trainer J Bell informed Stewards that CHARLIE HORSE, which performed poorly, would be spelled immediately after a long arduous programme. MISTER MO was disappointed for a run to the inside of OLD TRAFFORD near the 400 metre mark. Jockey F Edwards, the rider of OLD TRAFFORD was given the benefit of the doubt as to whether he allowed his mount OLD TRAFFORD to shift in or he received some pressure from ALLEZ SLEW which was racing to his outside.

RACE 4 CLASS 6 HANDICAP – 1400 Metres

JAZZY LANDING was unable to obtain a clear run until inside the 200 metre mark.

RACE 5: MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 Metres

When the start was effected SWAMPEN jumped inward and became unbalanced, shifted out and hampered SMART POET. SWAMPEN then shifted inward and at the same time, towards the inside, CREVHAWA shied away from RARE INDEED, as a consequence, WITCHES TWIST, which was racing between them had to be checked. Near the 200 metre mark, CREVHAWA had to be checked severely to avoid colliding with DONKHAL, which compounded. CREVHAWA then shifted inward. At the same time, LIPWITCH shifted out slightly and as a result, JOROLAN had to be checked. Stewards deemed this incident to be accidental due mainly to the severity of the check by CREVHAWA to avoid DONKHAL. The Veterinarian reported that JOROLAN pulled up lame after the race.

RACE 6 CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

Jockey S Simon was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount LA BEBE to shift out near the 250 metre mark when not sufficiently clear of MISREAL, resulting in MISREAL having to be eased to avoid the heels of LA BEBE.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
