TOWNSVILLE TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT THURSDAY 10/4/03
STEWARDS PANEL: D GRIFFITHS (CHAIRMAN), M BRAUNBERGER, G HARGREAVES, R SMITH
WEATHER –FINE TRACK:-GOOD RAIL – Out 5 metres from 1600 to 1400, 4.5 metres from 1000 to Home turn, 3 metres in straight
RACE 1: 2YO HANDICAP – 1000 Metres
ABNOO’S SEQUEL slipped at the start and lost ground. Approaching the 800 metres MYSTERY NOTE, which was racing greenly had to be steadied off the heels of TAY EXPRESS. At the 750 metres PALPITATIONS, which was racing greenly, hung in across the heels of AKENFAIR and lost ground. A short distance later, PALPITATIONS shifted out abruptly as a result of being unbalanced and checked PAPA GENO. MYSTERY NOTE was again checked off the heels of TAY EXPRESS at the 450 metres.
RACE 2: CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1000 Metres
BEAVER LAKE blundered when the gates opened.
RACE 3: 3YO CLASS 6 HANDICAP – 1000 Metres
ZEDOLLARS blundered when the gates opened. At the 950 metres BOOSIE GIRL had to be steadied off the heels of SIT HERE DEAR which shifted in momentarily. Jockey A Cox (SIT HERE DEAR) was advised to exercise care when crossing. Approaching the 500 metres, EL’S DANCER was steadied when racing between SEA RUFFIAN and CITY TWISTER which shifted out marginally.
RACE 4: CLASS 5 HANDICAP – 1000 Metres
On pulling up, Jockey J Cairns was dislodged from FLYING CLEAR and subsequently received Ambulance attention. At an Inquiry Jockey Cairns advised that he had extreme difficulty pulling FLYING CLEAR up at the completion of the event, this matter was brought to the attention of trainer V McIver and a warning issued. BALDRICK bled during the event and was stood down from racing for a mandatory 3 month period (AR53A).
RACE 5: MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1400 Metres
BUSTAWAY jumped inwards at the start crowding SUNACLANG and GHOSTLY TALE. Approaching the 1000 metres BUSTAWAY commenced to hang in. At the 700 metres BUSTAWAY which continued to hang in, was checked off the heels of SUNACLANG and shifted in abruptly resulting in EDUCATOR being checked. The attention of trainer C Richardson was drawn to the racing manners of BUSTAWAY. Jockey M Gray (KINGENI) was fined $100 for communicating with an unauthorised person on returning to the placegetters stall at the completion of the event (AR123 c)
RACE 6: QUALITY HANDICAP – 1000 Metres
NEAT ‘N’ TIDY and SISTER IN LAW collided at the start. A short distance later NEAT ‘N’ TIDY had to be steadied off the heels of ROMANTIC BAY which shifted in. ROMANTIC BAY lost both front plates during the event.
RACE 7: CLASS 3 PLATE – 1200 Metres
MISTER BENGALL was a late scratching at 9:05 am on veterinary advice. The attention of Trainer L Vandenbosch was drawn to LR71 in relation to failing to scratch MISTER BENGALL by the approved time. ACQUIRE jumped out taking UNCANNY PLEASURE out onto DEEALLA and OFFICER, which were both crowded. At the 700 metres, OFFICER which was pulling hard, shifted in and brushed the fence. Shortly after ACQUIRE was checked off the heels of KAKADU KING when the pace steadied.
ALL WINNERS & BALDRICK WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
