TOWNSVILLE TURF CLUB ___STEWARDS REPORT THURSDAY 14/08/03

STEWARDS PANEL: P. COOPER (CHAIRMAN), W. BIRCH, W. BETHEL, R. SMITH.

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD

RACE 1: CLASS 5 HANDICAP - ABOUT 1000 METRES - 7 STARTERS

In the early stages EYE CATCHING (G. Michaels) raced ungenerously.

An inquiry into the reason for A.Molino being dislodged from LOOP THE LOUP near the 100 metres was adjourned to a time and date to be fixed.

RACE 2: CLASS 6 PLATE - ABOUT 1000 METRES - 8 STARTERS

Trainer G. Hughes was fined $25 for negligently presenting KELSO REEF with the incorrect colours (A.R. 175(k)), and was fined another $25 under L. R. 42(2) for lodging an incorrect stable return for KELSO REEF.

At the start QUESTWIN (App. P. Hammersley) shifted in and made heavy contact with ANOTHER DIRECTION (P. Cullen), which shifted out.

In the early and middle stages KELSO REEF (App. L. Abbott) laid out.

RACE 3: MAIDEN HANDICAP - ABOUT 1000 METRES - 10 STARTERS

As A. Molino was indisposed, S. Watkin was substituted as the rider of CASH MISTRESS.

As the start was effected GOD'S WORD (D. Crossland) jumped in and made contact with BLEIGHSBOY (P. Cullen), and then in the early and middle stages was reluctant to settle.

Shortly after the start CASH MISTRESS shied outwards and over the final stages laid in.

RACE 4: CLASS 1 HANDICAP - ABOUT 1400 METRES - 13 STARTERS

As A. Molino was indisposed R. Mules was substituted as the rider of INVERDON.

WEEKENDZOFF (A. Cox) was difficult to load into the barriers. Stewards advised trainer C. Russo that the gelding has been barred until it successfully passes an official barrier jump-out.

SAMANDER (S. Morris) and REGAL STRATEGY (D. Crossland) came together at the start.

Over the final stages PINK KIMONO (A. Merritt) was unable to find clear running.

RACE 5: CLASS 3 PLATE - ABOUT 1630 METRES - 8 STARTERS

There were no racing incidents.


RACE 6: CLASS 3 PLATE - ABOUT 1630 METRES - 8 STARTERS

As A. Molino was indisposed P. Cullen was substituted as the rider of DIAMOND LASS.

In the early stages TOOBANNA raced ungenerously.

At approximately the 150 metres DANZADANE had to be steadied away from the heels of DIAMOND LASS (P. Cullen).

RACE 7: OPEN HANDICAP - ABOUT 1630 METRES - 13 STARTERS

As A. Molino was indisposed G. Michaels was substituted as the rider of RAFFUTE.

There were no racing incidents.

RACE 8: CLASS 3 PLATE - ABOUT 1200 METRES - 9 STARTERS

Near the 500 metres JURNCALWE became unbalanced.

GENERAL:

Stewards today concluded the inquiry into the handling of SILK SURAH in Race 1 at the Townsville Turf Club meeting on 8th August 2003. Jockey W. Kenning was informed that his explanations had been noted and that stewards would monitor the handling of the horse in its immediate future starts.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
