GENERAL:
Jockey D. Crossland was fined $150 for accepting rides for which he was to be overweight (A.R. 120(b)) Stewards permitted the following substitutions: Race 2, EXPLOITS Apprentice P. Hammersley; Race 3, CASH MISTRESS Apprentice P. Hammersley; Race 4 IT'S SIMPLE, W. Kenning; Race 8, FREE WORLD M. Elliott.

RACE 1: CLASS 6 PLATE - ABOUT 1200 METRES - 7 STARTERS
In the early stages STORMY BLUE (G. Kliese) was reluctant to settle. On returning to scale it was established that STORMY BLUE had bled from both nostrils. Trainer A. Jones was advised that under the terms of A.R. 53A STORMY BLUE was barred from racing for three calendar months.
As the start was effected SNIP 'N' SEA (App. K. Penrose) jumped inwards.
In the early stages CREDIT LIMIT (J. Stopps) refused to settle.

RACE 2: MAIDEN HANDICAP - ABOUT 1630 METRES - 10 STARTERS
In the early and middle stages REGAL STATE (G. Kliese) overraced, resulting in PHANTOM LYRIC (R. Ryan) having to be steadied to avoid that gelding's heels.

RACE 3: QTIS 3-YEAR-0LD MAIDEN HANDICAP - ABOUT 1000 METRES - 11 STARTERS
HE'S WANTED was a late withdrawal, at 1.40 p.m., by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice. No betting deductions were required.
As G. Michaels, the declared rider for OSHABER, was indisposed, A. Cox was substituted.
Throughout the event LAUDERDALE LORD raced ungenerously and hung out and finished tailed off. Trainer J. Sullivan was advised that LAUDERDALE LORD was barred from competing at licensed meetings until a veterinary certificate of fitness was provided and the colt performed satisfactorily in an official barrier trial.
In the middle stages BALLROOM JACK (M. Elliott), which began awkwardly, got onto the heels of FLINDERS FLYER and had to be restrained.

RACE 4: CLASS 1 HANDICAP - ABOUT 1300 METRES - 14 STARTERS
As G. Michaels, the declared rider for BRIGHT YOU ARE, was indisposed, A. Merritt was substituted.
OMARA (App. K. Penrose) was slow to get into stride.
Near the 600 metres PLUMS (P. Cullen) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of BALINAQ (J. Stanley).

Jockey J. Stanley (BALINAQ} reported that his mount made contact with the running rail on more than one occasion during the event.
At approximately the 1000 metres TRICKY DICKY (S. Simon) shifted in and hampered PRIMA DOLLAR (C. Murphy), which in turn shifted in and slightly inconvenienced PLUMS (P. Cullen). S. Simon was advised to exercise more care in future.
J. Stopps reported that at about the 600 metres LITTLE AWESOME commenced to hang out.
From the 400 metres to the 100 metres RED EYED BLISS (I. Toward) was held up and unable to obtain clear running. I. Toward was admonished for failing to ride his mount out to the finish.

RACE 5: WEIGHT FOR AGE - ABOUT 1300 METRES - 10 STARTERS
Trainer O. Cairns was fined $100 for negligence (A.R. 175(k)) in that she declared Jockey D. Crossland as the rider of CHARLIE HORSE without first confirming the engagement. Stewards permitted S. Simon to be substituted as the rider of CHARLIE HORSE.
PASSER PASSION (J. Stanley) and FOREIGN MONARCH (App. L. Abbott) began awkwardly.

RACE 6: CLASS 5 HANDICAP - ABOUT 1960 METRES - 10 STARTERS
In the early and middle stages BETHEL (W. Kenning) and CENTRAL BANKER (R. Ryan) overraced.

RACE 7: CLASS 2 HANDICAP - ABOUT 1630 METRES - 11 STARTERS
LAWREY'S BELLOTTO was a late withdrawal, at 3.18 p.m., by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice.
As Apprentice P. Hammersley was indisposed, A. Merritt was substituted as the rider of COMEDY PRINCE.
COMEDY PRINCE ( A. Merritt) was slow to begin.
After passing the winning post IN THE BAG broke down, dislodging its rider, M. Elliott. Jockey Elliott was transported to hospital for further treatment. Stewards were satisfied that no other horse or rider had contributed to the incident.

RACE 8: CLASS 3 HANDICAP - ABOUT 1000 METRES - 13 STARTERS
Apprentice L. Buckingham was substituted for K. Mahoney, who initially had replaced Jockey C. Schumacher, the declared rider for KARION AGAIN.
As J. Dickinson was indisposed, J. Stopps was substituted as the rider of MOWBRAY PARK.
FREE WORLD was a late withdrawal, at 5.07 p.m., by order of the stewards as no suitable rider was available to replace M. Elliott, who was injured in the preceding race.
As Apprentice P. Hammersley was indisposed, Apprentice L. Abbott was substituted as the rider of UNCANNY PLEASURE.
R. Long, the trainer of VONDALE, was fined $50 under A.R. 175(k) for negligently failing to enact a transfer of the horse and was also fined $50 under L.R. 42(2) for lodging an incorrect stable return.
SEFOKEELA reared as the gates opened.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
