TOWNSVILLE TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT TUESDAY 25/11/03

STEWARDS PANEL: P COOPER (Chairman), W BIRCH, W BIRD, J McINTOSH

WEATHER – FINE TRACK:-GOOD RAIL –TRUE

RACE 1: MAIDEN HANDICAP (Div 1) – 1000 Metres, 10 Starters

App K Penrose the rider of SOLOMEIO was fined $50 under the terms of AR 92. 12, in that she failed to claim the full allowance as the rider of this horse. GOLDEN FAME (P Cullen) hung out for the entire journey of the event. Jockey M.Elliott the rider of HARRY THE WIZARD was given the benefit of the doubt when his mount shifted inwards at the 700mtr mark, resulting in TO THE TEST (K.Mahoney) being checked. In giving Jockey Elliott the benefit of the doubt, Stewards took into account evidence that suggested his mount may have been dictated to by PREMIUMS (A.Cox).

RACE 2: MAIDEN HANDICAP (Div 2) – 1000 Metres – 8 Starters

Stewards inquired into the running and handling of the Horse PECKJATA (F Edwards). Stewards took evidence from Jockey F Edwards and Trainer G Dickson with regard to the performance of the horse. After taking evidence from both parties, Stewards gave benefit of a very grave doubt to Jockey F Edwards and advised Jockey Edwards that in future he should adopt riding tactics so as not to leave any doubt. Stewards advised Trainer G Dickson that the Stewards would expect to see the horse ridden in a simular manner in the future. Jockey F Edwards the rider of PECKJATA was fined $100 under the terms of AR 118 A in that he did remove gear prior to weighing back in following the running of the event.

RACE 3: CLASS 6 HANDICAP – 1400 Metres, 7 Starters

ENDIUS (N Day) hung out badly throughout the entire event. Stewards advised Trainer Bob Purcell that a warning had been placed on the horse, and a repeat performance would result in the horse having to Barrier Trial before the Stewards.

RACE 4: CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1400 Metres, 13 Starters

The saddle on JURNCALOWE (S Simon) slipped at approximately the 800 metre mark which resulted in Jockey Simon being placed in considerable difficulty for the remainder of the event to ride his horse out. It was reported that STORM CHAPEL (I Toward) broke down in the off fore leg during the running of this event. Trainer S McLellan advised the Stewards that he would be spelling the horse.

RACE 5: CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1300 Metres – 9 Starters

MISS KUMAGI (F Edwards) jumped away very awkwardly, rearing at the start. Jockey D Crossland was fined the sum of $150.00 under the terms of AR 137(b) in that he failed to ride his mount WARRIOR ROSE to the finish line as he is required to do.
Jockey F Edwards (MISS KUMAGI) was reminded of his obligations to ride his mount out fully to the post.


RACE 6:.OPEN HANDICAP – 1000 Metres – 10 Starters

WHO’S MY DAD (App S Kavanagh) was held up for clear running from approximately the 550 metre mark to the home turn. Jockey M Elliott (PROSPECTOR CHIEF) was admonished for permitting his mount to shift in soon after the start and hamper the running of WHO’S MY DAD (S Kavanagh). Stewards sort an explanation from Jockey R Mules and Trainer J Barr as to the disappointing performance of DEVIL’S DEN. After taking evidence from both rider and trainer, it was evident that the horse may have swallowed its tongue, or got its tongue over the bit, as stated by the Jockey of the horse. Stewards accepted the explanation given by both parties, however, advised that in future anything that may come to light effecting the performance of this horse must be reported to the Stewards immediately.

RACE 7: CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1000 Metres – 14 Starters

As the start was effected DARTH VADER (P Cullen) jumped outwards which resulted in HELLO BELLE (K Mahoney) being dictated out which inconvenienced PAINTED UP (W Kenning). AILEMA (App S Kavanagh) was restrained at the 100 metre mark after laying inwards behind the heels of SUPERSTAR LIBRA (A Merritt).


RACE 8:.CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1300 Metres – 16 Starters

SEFOKEELA (W Kenning) raced erratically in the early stages of the event. As the start was effected SILVERSTEIN (N Day) shifted outwards which dictated the line of PRINCE IRGUN (S Simon) which hampered the running of FINAL COUNTY (L Buckingham), as this was occcuring FREE WORLD (D Crossland) travelling to the outside of FINAL COUNTY shifted inwards and also contributed to the tightening suffered by that horse. PRINCE SAMURAI (R Mules) hung off the track at approximately the 650 metre mark, this resulted in the pace being slowed and inconvenience suffered to SEFOKEELA (W Kenning) and RED PYRAMID (W Kliese). On returning to scale, Jockey Mules informed Stewards that his mount PRINCE SAMURAI commenced to hang from approximately the 800 metre mark. FINAL SUITE bled from both nostrils during the running of this event. This was confirmed by the Clubs Veterinary Surgeon and Stewards placed a 3 month ban on the horse and Stewards brought this to the attention of Trainer DG Dixon. The ban was placed under the terms of AR 53A.

GENERAL:

App L Abbott pleaded guilty to a charge under ARR 160 B 3, and was subsequently fined the sum of $200.00 in that she did have in her possession and did use a mobile telephone while the meeting was taking place.
