WEATHER –FINE TRACK:-DEAD RAIL –OUT 5 METRES FROM 1000 METRES TO HOME TURN.
GENERAL:
Licensed Bookmaker A Dean was fined the sum of $250 under LR118A in that whilst betting was taking place, he did have in his possession a portable telephone.
RACE 1: CLASS 1 HANDICAP (Div 1) – Abt 1200 metres – 8 Starters
Approaching the 200 metres PICCOLO GROVE (App K Penrose) laid in under pressure and momentarily tightened the racing room of DOC HOLLYWOOD (F Edwards). Peter Mullins, the trainer of MALIFICENT which bled from both nostrils during the event, was advised that the Gelding would be barred from racing for a period of three months under the provisions of AR53A.
Following the running of race one the track was upgraded to Good.
RACE 2: CLASS 1 HANDICAP (Div 2) – Abt 1200 metres – 9 Starters
IRISH NEWS (P Cullen) was slow to begin. SIR LUCK (G Kliese) hung out over the concluding stages. Approaching the 200 metres, NAPKIN (A Molino) and BENDETA (M Bennett) raced in restricted room between SIR LUCK (G Kliese) and SPECKLES (p Hammersley) which shifted in slightly. Shortly after TYCOON CHARLIE (P Ryan) shifted in taking SPECKLES (P Hammersley) in further tightening the running of BENDETA (M Bennett) and NAPKIN (A Molino) which resulted in A Molino the rider of NAPKIN having to steady that horse approaching the 150 Metres. Both R Ryan (TYCOON CHARLIE) and P Hammersley (SPECKLES) were advised to exercise more care in simular circumstances.
RACE 3: MAIDEN HANDICAP – Abt 1200 metres – 12 Starters
F Edwards replaced rider M Gray on BRAVE PROMISE when he failed to arrive on course. Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by M Gray and took no further action.
Approaching the 1000 metres FUEL TO BURN (P Hammersley) had to be steadied when tightened for room by MADISON AVENUE (I Toward) which was taken in by FULL BALE (A Molino). Approaching the 150 metres FULL BALE (A Molino) shifted in and made contact with the running rail. O Cairns the trainer of HELANA which finished a distant last was advised that the mare would be barred from TAB racing until it established country form. A post race veterinary examination of HELANA revealed that the Mare had sustained a laceration to the tongue.
RACE 4: CLASS 4 HANDICAP – Abt 1000 metres – 8 Starters
JUNGLE KING was declared a late scratching at 2:39 p.m. by order of the Stewards when that horse broke through the Barriers and completed a circuit of the track. Prior to declaration of Correct Weight, all monies invested on JUNGLE KING were ordered to be refunded and deductions of 4 cents on the face value of the win ticket and 5 cents on the face value of the place ticket applied. Trainer G Dickson was advised that JUNGLE KING must obtain a further Barrier Certificate prior to it starting again.
RACE 5: MAIDEN HANDICAP – Abt 1400 metres – 10 Starters
BOLD AUSBRED (P Hammersley) was slow to begin. SON OF ZENA (L Attard) jumped out at the start making heavy contact with SWEET MELODY (W Kenning). Approaching the 700 metres INVERDON (J Stopps) shifted in slightly tightening the running of MANHATTAN EAGLE (J Felix). J Felix the rider of MANHATTAN EAGLE reported that this horse hung out under pressure in the Straight.
RACE 6: CLASS 3 HANDICAP – Abt 1400 metres – 11 Starters
IMTENT (J Lewis) was slow to begin. MANSMAHMOUD (G Michaels) saddle shifted shortly after the start placing its rider at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event. WILD WITH PASSION (R Hurley) over raced in the middle stages. MAGIC HOLIDAY (K Mahoney) hung out in the straight.
RACE 7: WEIGHT FOR AGE – Abt 1000 metres – 12 Starters
BRASSY JIM (J Stopps) and PRINCE JACOB (F Edwards) were both slow to begin. PEAT BOG (M Elliott) raced wide throughout. Approaching the 600 metres PROSPECTOR CHIEF (P Cullen) and DANCING LOU (P Hammersley) made contact.
RACE 8: CLASS 6 PLATE – Abt 1200 metres – 12 Starters
COOK’S PASSAGE (R Hurley) was slow to begin. Leaving the 700 metres WHO’S MY DAD (P D’Addona) shifted out taking COOK’S PASSAGE (R Hurley) wide on the track. BURLY MAN (K Mahoney) was momentarily held up for clear running soon after entering the straight.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
