Apprentice B. Hull will be interviewed by stewards at the Eagle Farm meeting tomorrow, Saturday 29th January 2005. I Toward was substituted as the rider of KILLIAN in Race 7.

Race 1: Andrew Ryan & Peter Moore Class 1 Handicap - 1200 metres
1st - IDALIA 2nd - CAUGHT DANCING 3rd - MUMS THE WORD 4th - MENSA PRINCE

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey J. Stanley, the rider of MUMS THE WORD which finished third, and Jockey G. Cullen, who rode the second placegetter, CAUGHT DANCING, to view the official films. After viewing the video films Jockey Stanley decided not to lodge an objection.

ELITE VITESSE (P. Cullen) began awkwardly.

In the early stages CAUGHT DANCING (G. Cullen) overraced and became awkwardly placed on the heels of MENSA PRINCE (M. Bennett).

IDALIA (G. Kliese) was obliged to race wide throughout the event.

Between the 500 metres to the 400 metres ELITE VITESSE (P. Cullen) was steadied when it was momentarily awkward on the heels of LOCHSCENE (J. Felix).

Approaching the 150 metres MUMS THE WORD (J. P. Stanley) was held up and obliged to shift wider across the heels of CAUGHT DANCING (G. Cullen) to obtain clear running.

Approaching the 100 metres LOCHSCENE (J. Felix) had to be steadied when disappointed for a narrow run on the inside of DRACSON (A. Cox), which shifted in. A. Cox was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Over the concluding stages MENSA PRINCE (M. Bennett) shifted in and momentarily crowded DRACSON (A. Cox). M. Bennett was advised to make a greater effort to keep his mounts straight in future.

Following the running of this race the track rating was upgraded to dead.

Race 2: Western Painting Contractors Open Handicap - 1300 metres
1st - SINOWIN 2nd - RAISE ‘N’ WYN 3rd - PALARCHI 4th - WATTAGE

In the early stages and again approaching the 600 metres PLUMS (P. Cullen) became awkwardly placed on the heels of RAISE ‘N’ WYN (R. Ryan) and was steadied.

At the 400 metres PLUMS (P. Cullen) shifted out and bumped STORMY LODGE (G. Cullen), resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced. Then on straightening PLUMS again shifted out and brushed STORMY LODGE, which then had a tendency to lay out, placing its rider at a disadvantage in riding his mount out. ride. P. Cullen was advised to exercise more care.

In the straight PALARCHI (J. P. Stanley) had a tendency to lay out, placing its rider at a disadvantage in riding his mount out.

Race 3: Artic Heat Class 2 Handicap - 1000 metres
1st - FELLINO 2nd - KAREEM 3rd - MISS PENNYWEIGHT 4th - CLASSIC WIN

At the start KAREEM (J. P. Stanley) shifted in and bumped FELLINO (G. Kliese).

Rounding the home turn FELLINO (G. Kliese) and MISS PENNYWEIGHT (I. Toward) came together.

Race 4: QRSE Stuart Hotel Class 4 Handicap - 1000 metres
1st - DON SEQUALO 2nd - MIDNIGHT DESIRE 3rd - TEDDY CHEVAL 4th - JEWEL OF DANETREE

MOON JET (A. Cox) was slow to begin.

DON SEQUALO (W. Kenning) jumped in at the start and crowded RANGEHILL (I. Toward) in onto JEWEL OF DANETREE (D. Philpot).

In the middle stages MAGIC OWL (J. P. Stanley) overraced and got its head up.

Approaching the 350 metres TRICKY DICKY (P. Cullen) and MIDNIGHT DESIRE (Apprentice G. McKeon) came together, resulting in TRICKY DICKY becoming unbalanced.

In the early part of the straight JEWEL OF DANETREE (D. Philpot) was held up and unable to obtain clear running and near the 200 metres shifted out and hampered RANGEHILL (I. Toward), which in turn shifted out slightly and hampered MOON JET (A. Cox). Jockey Philpot was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

Leaving the 200 metres MIDNIGHT DESIRE (Apprentice G. McKeon), which had been held up and unable to obtain clear running, shifted out when not quite clear of TRICKY DICKY (P. Cullen), which had to be eased. Apprentice G. McKeon was reprimanded and advised that in future he would be expected to exercise more care when shifting ground.

Race 5: Mick The Painter Class 3 Handicap - 1400 metres
1st - EMMABEE 2nd - BEAU JEUNE 3rd - POWER OF NOW 4th - ZIRCONS

POWER OF NOW (J. P. Stanley) shifted in at the start and momentarily crowded BEAU JEUNE (J. Felix), which had been slightly slow to begin.

ZIRCONS (G. Kliese) was obliged to race wide throughout the event.

Approaching the 200 metres and again near the 100 metres POWER OF NOW (J. P. Stanley) shifted in, necessitating its rider to stop riding and straighten his mount.

Trainer Mr D. Crouch informed stewards that he was extremely disappointed with the performance of MOORABBIN OVAL (M. Bennett), as the gelding had performed well in trackwork in the lead-up to today’s event and had been expected to race well. He said that MOORABBIN OVAL had previously undergone a wind operation and he was concerned as to whether the operation had been successful. A post-race veterinary examination of MOORABBIN OVAL did not reveal any abnormalities.

Race 6: Townsville Industrial Spray Painting & Coating Maiden Handicap - 1400 metres
1st - GRUMPY PAT 2nd - EMMBOWEN 3rd - SHOCKFORCE 4th - BEST WAY

RIPPED OFF (D. Philpot) was slow to begin.

NOTHIN’ LEICA BABE (Apprentice R. McMahon) stood in the barriers and lost considerable ground. Subsequently trainer Mr P. Moncrieff was advised that the mare must perform to the satisfaction of stewards in a jump-out before being permitted to race again.

JAILBURST (P. Cullen) was fractionally slow to begin and shortly after the start had to be steadied away from the heels of BEST WAY (G. Cullen).

Approaching the 1000 metres BEST WAY (G. Cullen), which raced greenly throughout the event, laid in and bumped SHOCKFORCE (J. P. Stanley), then shortly after this shifted out across the heels of GRUMPY PAT (I. Toward), taking JAILBURST (P. Cullen) wider on the track and also hampering REAL FRISKY (Apprentice G. McKeon). Stable representative Mr G. Spillane was advised that a warning had been placed on the racing manners of BEST WAY.

Leaving the 900 metres BEST WAY (G. Cullen), which continued to race greenly, shifted in slightly, resulting in JAILBURST (P. Cullen) becoming momentarily awkwardly placed on that horse’s heels. A short distance later JAILBURST contacted the heels of BEST WAY, blundered and became unbalanced for a short distance. Stewards were of the opinion that the greenness of BEST WAY was the major contributing factor to the incident.

At about the 150 metres BEST WAY (G. Cullen) shifted out and hampered RICHIE RICH (A. Cox), which had to be steadied. G. Cullen was advised that in future he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount sooner than he had on this occasion.

Race 7: QRSE Peter Chamberlain Class 2 Handicap - 1630 metres
1st - THE SWEDISH CHEF 2nd - SEADOG 3rd - RAIN KING 4th - AUTOBIOGRAPHY

Jockey J. Stopps was fined $50 under A.R. 175(k) for accepting riding engagements for KILLAIN and BALINAQ. I

The explanation tendered by trainer Mr J. Robbins for presenting STORMY KELL in the enclosure without a tongue tie was accepted, however Mr Robbins was instructed that in future any gear changes for his horses were to be notified by the appropriate time.

SEADOG (J. Felix) raced wide throughout the event.

Near the 600 metres THE SWEDISH CHEF (Apprentice G. McKeon) bumped with AUTOBIOGRAPHY (P. Cullen) when attempting a narrow run to the inside of that horse.
