Bennett stated that after beginning well, he then positioned himself to the outside of the leader, PALARCHI (J. P. Stanley), which had given him the impression that it was going to lead, and lead easily. He said that he therefore restrained his mount and sat outside the leader, to give his mount every possible chance. M. Bennett added that when asked for an effort shortly after approaching the 600 metres, BORZOV sprinted and after straightening for home he was of the opinion that he had a winning chance. However, over the concluding stages, though BORZOV began to tire, he was of the opinion that the gelding was given every possible chance. Mr Adornetto accepted Jockey Bennett’s explanation, and no further action was taken.
