Race 1: Hahn Premium Class 6 Handicap - 1630 metres
1st - ALWYN STREET 2nd - O’MINE 3rd - PLUMS 4th -
METALLIC

On jumping ALWYN STREET (D. Crossland) shifted in and bumped THE OUTBACK RAT (Apprentice P. D’Addona).

PACKSYND (G. Cullen) began awkwardly.

In the early stages PLUMS (P. Cullen) overraced.

Stewards questioned Trainer Mr P. Ryan and Apprentice D. D’Addona about the performance of THE OUTBACK RAT. It was established during the inquiry that THE OUTBACK RAT had sustained a laceration to the near front cannon in the early stages of the race, giving Apprentice D’Addona the impression that the mare had broken down. However, Apprentice D’Addona was informed that the stewards were concerned with her lack of vigour between the 1100 metres and 700 metres. After taking into account the whole of the evidence and their own observations, stewards gave Apprentice D’Addona the benefit of the doubt. However, they instructed her that in similar circumstances she would be expected to show more vigour and make a greater effort to keep in contact with the field. Mr Ryan was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be provided before THE OUTBACK RAT will be permitted to race again.

Race 2: XXXX Gold Class 3 Plate - 1400 metres
1st - UNBRIDLED’S HOPE 2nd - DICTATE PLAY 3rd - REAL ASSET 4th - AUTOBIOGRAPHY

As Apprentice R. McMahon was unavailable because of transport difficulties, and as no other suitable apprentice rider was available, stewards acceded to the request by trainer Mr R. Long that M. Bennett be substituted as the rider of AUTOBIOGRAPHY.

UNBRIDLED’S HOPE (D. Crossland) began awkwardly and shortly after the start was brushed by EAGLE REIGN (W. Cullen), which shifted in.

DICTATE PLAY (D. Evans) began awkwardly and bumped MOORABBIN OVAL (J. P. Stanley).

In the early stages REAL ASSET (G. Kliese) overraced.

Rounding the home turn UNBRIDLED’S HOPE (D. Crossland) laid out and when corrected, momentarily crowded REAL ASSET (G. Kliese).

Race 3: Quarterdeck Maiden Handicap - 1200 metres
1st - BIG FISH 2nd - TIME SWITCH 3rd - GUN PIPER 4th - JAILBURST

At the start TIME SWITCH (G. Kliese) jumped out and then shortly after the start began to lay in, and near the 900 metres momentarily crowded JAILBURST (P. Cullen), which was steadied.

BIG FISH (D. Evans) shifted in at the start.

HERANDO (D. Green) raced wide throughout.

Rounding the home turn GUN PIPER (A. Best), which had been racing greenly, ran off, taking HERANDO (D. Green) wider. Trainer Mr W. Dale was advised that a warning had been placed on the racing manners of GUN PIPER.

Race 4: www.cludenpark.com.au Handicap - 1200 metres
1st - PREMIUM DRY 2nd - CARBON GOLD 3rd - RAISE ‘N’ WYN 4th - BRUNT

BORZOV (D. Green) was slow to begin.

As the start was effected PREMIUM DRY (J. P. Stanley) shifted out and made contact with BRUNT (W. Kenning), which became unbalanced and lost ground.

In the middle stages BRUNT (W. Kenning) overraced when placed awkwardly on the heels of another runner, then rounding the home turn laid out, taking NEAT ‘N’ TIDY (M. Bennett) wider.

Race 5: QRSE Tooheys New Class 5 Handicap - 1200 metres
1st - MS HAVOC 2nd - STAR WHISTLER 3rd - YA WAHEED 4th - FIELDS OF THUNDER

On jumping FIELDS OF THUNDER (I. Toward) and YA WAHEED (R. Mules) came together, resulting in YA WAHEED shifting in and bumping STAR WHISTLER (P. Cullen), which was taken in onto ZEDAFFAIRS (J. Stopps). In the incident STAR WHISTLER became unbalanced and lost ground.

At the 1000 metres STAR WHISTLER (P. Cullen) had to be restrained when crowded for room by FIELDS OF THUNDER (I. Toward), which shifted in when not quite clear. I. Toward was severely reprimanded.

Approaching the 600 metres FIELDS OF THUNDER (I. Toward) was disappointed for a run to the inside of ZEDAFFAIRS (J. Stopps), which was hanging out and when corrected shifted back in. Shortly after this incident FIELDS OF THUNDER again had to be steadied when attempting a run to the outside of ZEDAFFAIRS, which continued to hang out, resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced.

Jockey J. Stopps reported that ZEDAFFAIRS hung out throughout the event and proved difficult to ride.

Race 6: QRSE Aqua Restaurant Maiden Handicap - 1630 metres
1st - KINGS CORONATION 2nd - STAR REVUNDO 3rd - SHOCKFORCE 4th - GOLD MOVER

BEST WAY (G. Cullen) began awkwardly and got its head in the air, then rounding the turn near the 1400 metres had a tendency to shift out.

Rounding the turn at the 1400 metres REAL FRISKY (A. Cox) ran wide.

WEAPONRY (P. Cullen) overraced in the early stages and then was obliged to race wide.

When questioned about his riding of ABOVE THE HORIZON in the straight, M. Bennett said that he was under pressure from the 650 metres and in the straight raced tight inside other runners, but failed to run on. M. Bennett was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out, at least hands and heels, right to the finish.

Race 7: Lobby Bar QTIS Class 2 Handicap - 1000 metres
1st - MISS PENNYWEIGHT 2nd - DEAR JILLY 3rd - CENTA SEQUALO 4th - LONE FLYER

JORDAN’S DRAGON (I. Toward) began awkwardly.

Near the 400 metres CENTA SEQUALO (J. Felix) became awkward on the heels of another runner, shifted in and momentarily crowded LONE FLYER (A.Cox), which steadied.

Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight JORDAN’S DRAGON (I. Toward), which had been held up, shifted out to obtain a clear run and bumped LARRIKIN LANCE (J. P. Stanley) on a number of occasions, and again near the 200 metres shifted out and brushed LARRIKIN LANCE. I. Toward was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

Race 8: Jupiters Townsville Class 1 Handicap - 1200 metres
1st - CYMBALIST 2nd - CAUGHT DANCING 3rd - VICTORY ROLL 4th - NAGOMI

As Apprentice R. McMahon was unavailable due to transport difficulties, and no apprentice rider was available, A. Best was substituted as the rider of CYMBALIST.

CAUGHT DANCING (G. Cullen) began awkwardly, shifted in abruptly and crowded BE YOUR BEST (R. Mules) across the heels of NAGOMI (F. Edwards).

On jumping HE’S WANTED (M. Bennett) shifted out and bumped BULL FROG (P. Cullen), which was steadied and lost ground.

From the 900 metres to the 500 metres BULL FROG (P. Cullen) laid out, shortly after that point shifted in and thereafter raced ungenerously.

Approaching the 800 metres BE YOUR BEST (R. Mules), which was overracing, became awkwardly placed on heels, shifted out abruptly taking GUTS (D. Crossland) wider, resulting in that horse being steadied and losing ground.

Shortly after straightening for home HE’S WANTED (M. Bennett) commenced to lay out and continued to shift out under pressure despite the efforts of its rider and hampered DRACSON (J. P. Stanley), which was unable to obtain clear running and went to the line without being fully tested.

When questioned about the somewhat disappointing performance of GUTS (D. Crossland), which was having its first start since November, Jockey Crossland said that he had been instructed to ride the horse wherever it was comfortable. He said that after being caught wide early he elected to restrain GUTS back in the field, where the Colt settled nicely, however approaching the 800mtrs he was taken wide on the track and forced to steady after BE YOUR BEST shifted outwards abruptly. Jockey Crossland further stated that shortly after this point he urged GUTS forward, however the Colt only ran on fairly. Trainer Mr R. Chillemi advised stewards that it was now his intention to spell the colt as he had been in work some time, but had, had difficulty in getting GUTS over some hoof problems.
