Rounding the home turn STRIDERITE (G. Kliese) laid out across the heels of SUPER SUAVE (F. Edwards) and was steadied.

Race 2: Amanda Macor Milliner Class 4 Handicap - 1400 metres
1st - EAGLE REIGN 2nd - ORANGE SMASH 3rd - SUNACLANG 4th - KOOL KALI
When questioned about the tactics he employed on the winner, EAGLE REIGN, Jockey G. Cullen explained that he had been instructed to jump the gelding out and lead, if possible, and then to allow EAGLE REIGN to stride along. Stewards also questioned jockeys J. P. Stanley (ORANGE SMASH), P. Cullen (SUNACLANG), J. Felix (O’MINE), d. Evans (HOWLEY HALL), I. Toward (OUR UNISON), and R. Mules (KOOL KALI) about the tactics they had employed and established that all horses in the event, with the exception of EAGLE REIGN (G. Cullen), usually get back in the field. Nevertheless, stewards expressed their concern as to why EAGLE REIGN had been allowed to extend his lead during the middle stages. The riders explained that despite their efforts to urge their mounts along in the middle stages, they had been unable to make ground on the leader and though they narrowed the gap after turning for home, they were under pressure over the concluding stages. Trainer M. Young stated that she had instructed G. Cullen not to restrain EAGLE REIGN as when it raced at Townsville on 22nd February 2005 it led and compounded, but at its most recent start it was unable to do so. She said that she was of the opinion that in today’s event there would not be any early pace and therefore she had instructed G. Cullen to allow EAGLE REIGN to lead and improve if possible. The explanations were noted.
Race 3: QRSE Cubah Class 2 Handicap - 1630 metres
1st - ZIRCONS 2nd - KNOCKBACK 3rd - OBI WAN 4th - LORD GRANGE

Approaching the 1300 metres SEADOG (A. Cox) became awkward on heels and when steadied got its head up and began to race ungenerously. Shortly after this SEADOG shifted in, despite the efforts of its rider, causing LORD GRANGE (D. Evans) to be checked and lose ground. No action was taken against any rider, as stewards were of the opinion that the racing manners of SEADOG had been the main contributor to the incident. Approaching the 1000 metres SEADOG, which continued to race ungenerously, again got its head in the air, shifted out and hampered BALINAQ (M. Elliott), which was steadied.
Approaching the 500 metres POWER OF NOW (D. Crossland) and ZIRCONS (G. Kliese bumped, resulting in POWER OF NOW becoming unbalanced, shifting out and clipping the heels of ZIRCONS, blundering and in turn hampering GENEROUS LADY (G. Cullen), which was following and clipped the heels of POWER OF NOW. SEADOG (A. Cox) was hampered in consequence and obliged to race wider, and LORD GRANGE (D. Evans) also was hampered. In the circumstances no direct action was taken, however D. Crossland and G. Kliese were advised to exercise care.
Near the 200 metres JAKEO (R. Mules), which had been laying out, was obliged to steady away from the heels of KNOCKBACK (R. Ryan), which momentarily shifted in under pressure. R. Ryan was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
From shortly after the 200 metres until near the winning post BALINAQ (M. Elliott) was held up and unable to obtain clear running, and went to the line without being fully tested.
Over the concluding stages ZIRCONS (G. Kliese) and KNOCKBACK (R. Ryan) shifted in and crowded (FLYING VIKING (I. Toward) which was under pressure and losing ground.
A post-race veterinary examination of KNOCKBACK (R. Ryan) revealed that the gelding was lame in the off foreleg. Trainer J. Ryan was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness will be required prior to KNOCKBACK being permitted to race again.

PRESTO PRESTO (I. Toward) began awkwardly.
Leaving the 600 metres CITY OF SMILES (F. Edwards) laid out and bumped STRUTTER’S BALL (P. Cullen), which was taken out onto BANGALOW (W. Kenning), resulting in all three runners becoming unbalanced.
A short distance after the 500 metres CITY OF SMILES (F. Edwards), which was laying out, bumped STRUTTER’S BALL (P. Cullen) out onto BANGALOW (W. Stewards considered an objection lodged by P.Cullen, the rider of FIVE POINTS which finished third, against NAGOMI (J. After taking evidence from the parties involved stewards dismissed the objection when they found that at about the 500 metres FIVE POINTS commenced to lay out, became awkward on the heels of NAGOMI and had to be eased.
