RAISING THE BAR (G. Cullen) was slow to get into stride.

Race 2: Affordable Flowers Class 6 Handicap - 1400 metres
1st - BICARB 2nd - FINAL STORM 3rd - FUBUTU 4th - ANNA DE JULES
RIGHT CONNECTION (J. Stopps) was slow to begin.
In the early and middle stages ANNA DE JULES (C. Schumacher) overraced.
Apprentice C. Pay, the rider of BICARB, was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in near the 950 metres when insufficiently clear of ELASTICITY (G. Cullen), which was hampered and lost a little ground.
A post-race veterinary examination of THE BOWRAL BATSMAN (D. Lloyd), which broke down badly during running, revealed that the gelding was lame in the near foreleg. Trainer Mr P. Doman advised stewards that the horse will be euthanased.
Race 3: Morely Funerals Class 2 Handicap - 1400 metres
1st - WOODIDIERE 2nd - GUM SCRUB 3rd - JOE’S FURY 4th - TATANKA
As no other suitable rider was available, permission was given for D. Dean to ride RED PYRAMID overweight.
At the start JOE’S FURY (G. Cullen) shifted out and bumped NORTH FIELD (G. Kliese).
TATANKA (C. Schumacher) jumped outwards at the start and inconvenienced CAUGHT DANCING (S. Watkin).
At the 950 metres KINGS CORONATION (D. Crossland) clipped the heels of RED PYRAMID (D. Dean), which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider to keep his mount straight. GUM SCRUB (A. Cox), which was following KINGS CORONATION, had to be steadied in consequence.
Near the 900 metres NORTH FIELD (G. Kliese) had to steady off the heels of GUM SCRUB (A. Cox).
When questioned about the performance of NORTH FIELD, jockey G. Kliese explained that, in accordance with his instructions, he rode the gelding quietly in the early stages, however when he attempted to improve after leaving the 600 metres the horse failed to respond to his riding and in the straight was disappointing. The explanation was noted.
Race 4: Flintstones Landscape Land Class 4 Handicap - 1000 metres
1st - THE SEANSTER 2nd - SURREY GOLD 3rd - SET FOR STARDOM 4th - MULLIGAN
As no other suitable rider was available permission was given for C. Schumacher to ride KAREEM 1kg overweight.
STEEL ‘N’ VET (D. Lloyd) was a little slow to get into stride.
KAREEM (C. Schumacher) began awkwardly.
At about the 100 metres RED DYNASTY (G. Kliese) was crowded for room by FOREST AVENUE (D. Crossland), which shifted in slightly. D. Crossland was advised that in future he must make a greater effort to keep his mounts straight.
BAY FELT (M. Elliott) bled from both nostrils during running. Trainer Mr Brett Baker was advised that, as this was the first time BAY FELT had bled, the gelding was barred from competing at licensed meetings for a period of three months under A.R. 53A.
When asked about the performance of SPRITELY NED, jockey J. Stopps explained that the gelding began fairly and raced well early, but in the straight was reluctant to take a run inside CROWN REGATTA (W. Kenning) and failed to finish the race off. The explanation was noted.
Race 5: Kirwan Tavern Past Presidents Cup Class 1 Handicap - 1000 metres
1st - JOINTURE 2nd - MY SALADDIN 3rd - BAY OWL 4th - LUBERON
BAY OWL (Apprentice C. Pay) shifted out abruptly at the start, taking LUBERON (C. Schumacher) out onto KRUPNIK (D. Lloyd), which was taken out and bumped SAFARI KING (G. Cullen), which in turn was taken out onto KHITOBAI (S. Watkin), which bounded in the air on jumping. LUBERON was unbalanced for the next 100 metres.
Jockey W. Kenning pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that near the 900 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of KHITOBAI (S. Watkin), which was checked and lost its position. W. Kenning was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on Tuesday, 28th June 2005, up to and including 2nd July 2005.
JOINTURE (D. Crossland) bled from both nostrils during running. Trainer Mr S. Potiris was advised that, as this was the first time JOINTURE had bled, the filly was barred from competing at licensed meetings for three months under A.R. 53A.
After riding BAY OWL in this race Apprentice C. Pay became indisposed and was stood down from his further engagement.
Race 6: TPI Ladies Auxiliary Open Handicap - 1200 metres
1st - VITEGIC 2nd - SNICK 3rd - HIACLA 4th - MAGLI
As Apprentice C. Pay became indisposed after riding in Race 5, S. Watkin was substituted as the rider of SNICK.
Jockey D. Dean reported that prior to the race PUGAD LAWIN had its tongue over the bit and the bit was replaced. He said, however, that shortly after the start the gelding again got its tongue over the bit and hung badly thereafter.
Jockey M. Elliott reported that as the start was effected HOOT’S VIEW shifted in and he struck his shoulder on the side of the gate.
At the start HIACLA (J. Stopps) shifted out and hampered SILVER PATRIOT (D. Crossland).
At approximately the 750 meres POSITIVE OUTCOME (G. Cullen) was checked when placed in restricted room by WELL INFORMED (W. Kenning), which shifted in. It was noted that W. Kenning attempted to prevent his mount from shifting ground and, in the circumstances, Jockey Kenning was given the benefit of a grave doubt as to whether he should be charged with careless riding.
when attempting a run to the inside of WELL INFORMED (W. Kenning), which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.
A post-race veterinary examination of POSITIVE OUTCOME (G. Cullen) revealed that the gelding was lame in the off foreleg.
GENERAL:
Jockey C. Schumacher was found guilty of a breach of A.R. 87D in that he had in his possession and wore a body protector which had been modified by the removal of sections of foam. Jockey Schumacher was fined $500, which the stewards ordered be paid by 25th August 2005. Stewards further ordered that should the fine not be paid by the date specified Jockey Schumacher’s licence to ride in races will be suspended for three North Queensland race meetings.
