GENERAL:

Apprentice P. D’Addona was fined $50 on each of four charges under A.R. 92(12) – a total of $200 - for failing to claim her full allowance on, respectively, SKINSTAD in Race 3, HOME GIRL in Race 4, SOLIDIFIED in Race 6, and AWESOME NIGHT in Race 7.

Race 1: Channel Seven QTIS 3-Year-Old Class 4 Handicap - 1000 metres
1st - FLYING WOODPECKER 2nd - YOU’RE SO DANE 3rd - PYRAMID RAIDER 4th - SURROGATE SON

When G. Kliese was to be overweight, G. Cullen was substituted as the rider of PYRAMID RAIDER. G. Kliese was fined $100 under A.R. 120(b).

FLYING WOODPECKER (D. Crossland) was slow to get into stride.

Near the 300 metres SURROGATE SON (Apprentice R. Plumb) shifted in and tightened DAYJUR VALLEY (D. Evans), which had to be eased. Apprentice Plumb was admonished and advised that in future he would be expected to make a greater effort to keep his mounts straight.

Jockey D. Crossland, the rider of FLYING WOODPECKER, was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in under pressure over the concluding stages and inconvenience PYRAMID RAIDER (G. Cullen), which was eased.

When questioned Jockey D. Evans was unable to offer any tangible explanation for the poor performance of DAYJUR VALLEY, which finished rearward. He said that the gelding was fractious in the barriers, as it had done at its most recent start, began only fairly and raced ungenerously throughout.

Race 2: Coates Hire Class 5 Handicap - 1960 metres
1st - JAKEO 2nd - DON’T WORRY 3rd - GIVE AND TELL 4th - AUTOBIOGRAPHY

When the gates opened WILL TO ENDURE (D. Green) reared.

Approximately 100 metres after the start DON’T WORRY (P. Cullen) shifted in to obtain a position closer to the running rail and in doing so inconvenienced DINI WHO (Apprentice R. Plumb). Then in the early and middle stages DON’T WORRY (P. Cullen) pulled hard.

Approaching the 1600 metres DON’T WORRY (P. Cullen) had to be restrained when crowded for room to the inside of GIVE AND TELL (D. Crossland), which was laying in.

From the 1400 metres to near the 900 metres DINI WHO (Apprentice R. Plumb) overraced.

When asked about the performance of DINO WHO Apprentice R. Plumb explained that after beginning well the gelding failed to show any early speed and when put under pressure in the straight failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing.

Race 3: Boral Concrete & Quarries Country Queensland Maiden Handicap - 1000 metres
1st - THE TROUBLE IS 2nd - HIDE IN THE JUNGLE 3rd - WOOD DUX 4th - YUMIKO

YUMIKO (J. P. Stanley) knuckled on jumping.

At the start LADY LATAR (P. Cullen) shifted out and brushed HALO TO HEAVEN (S. Watkin).

Approaching the 900 metres YUMIKO (J. P. Stanley) was crowded for room between WOOD DUX (L. Critoph) and PRAYER WHEEL (Apprentice R. Plumb), which was inclined to hang out.

Near the 600 metres LA JUNIPER (M. Bennett) was eased to avoid the heels of YOMIKO (J. P. Stanley).

In the middle stages HIDE IN THE JUNGLE (K. Penrose) laid out.

Race 4: Twin City Trophies Class 1 Handicap - 1000 metres
1st - TIME SWITCH 2nd - PAYPACKET 3rd - MACH ONE 4th - CLARINET

When the gates opened GENERAL JAKE (I. Toward) and THURLES (A. Cox) bumped, resulting in THURLES becoming unbalanced. Shortly after this LUCKY SWISTER (J. Felix) shifted in and made contact with THURLES.

TIME SWITCH (G. Kliese) was slow to begin.

When asked about the performance of ROSIE’S BOY, Jockey D. Evans explained that he had been instructed to lead if possible, but after beginning only fairly he was obliged to take a sit behind the leader. He said that thereafter ROSIE’S BOY did not feel comfortable and in the straight failed to stretch out.

A stride after the winning post LUCKY SWISTER (J. Felix) was restrained to prevent the gelding getting on the heels of GENERAL JAKE (I. Toward), shifted in and tightened ROSIE’S BOY (D. Evans), which also had to be restrained.

Race 5: 4TO FM Class 6 Plate - 1400 metres
1st - TROUBEAUT 2nd - DEBONAIR 3rd - SECRET RAIN 4th - KENWOOD ALLEGRO

DEBONAIR (M. Dale) was slow to begin and then at the 800 metres was obliged to race wide on the track.

At the start TROUBEAUT (D. Crossland) shifted in, taking SECRET RAIN (P. Cullen) in onto KENWOOD ALLEGRO (M. Bennett).

SECRET RAIN (P. Cullen) overraced between the 1100 metres and the 850 metres.

In the middle stages QUAYTMAN (D. Green) was caught wide.

At the 850 metres KENWOOD ALLEGRO (M. Bennett) was steadied to avoid the heels of LITTLE MISS ARIES (I. Toward). SECRET RAIN (P. Cullen) had to be steadied in consequence.

Race 6: Mac Core Memorial Class 2 Handicap - 1400 metres
1st - EPONA’S BONUS 2nd - BOLD SWEEPER 3rd - WOODIDIERE 4th - SCROLLS

MATRIX (A. Cox) slipped behind on jumping.

Jockey I. Toward reported that OUR MCGINTY hung out from the 800 metres.

In the middle stages WOODIDIERE (P. Cullen) raced wide.

Near the 600 metres WOODIDIERE (P. Cullen) shifted in slightly and tightened BYE BYE DIAMONDS (K. Penrose).
Race 7: N.Q.A.T.C. Open Handicap - 1200 metres
1st - UNDENIED 2nd - MOT D’OR 3rd - MAGLI 4th - STORMY BLUE

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow D. Green, the rider of SNICK, and owner Mr T. Sheahan to view the film of the start. After viewing the film and taking evidence from the parties stewards found that the gates on barrier 5 had been slow to open and this had materially prejudiced SNICK’s chances of running a place. Accordingly they found that SNICK had been denied a fair start and declared the gelding a non-runner. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on SNICK be refunded in full and that all successful bets made with bookmakers be paid less the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of tickets: win 23¢, place 18¢.

Approaching and rounding the home turn AWESOME NIGHT (Apprentice P. D’Addona) raced wide.

Over the final 150 metres OUR SECRET AGENT (D. Evans) was held up and unable to obtain clear running.

Race 8: - Xerox Shop Class 3 Plate - 1200 metres
1st - TRIP TO MANILA 2nd - ZOZULINA 3rd - TATANKA 4th - SHADDOCK

Approaching the 900 VAMOOSE (A. Cox) commenced to overrace, shifted in and momentarily tightened BRASS CUTTER (D. Evans).

After leaving the 900 metres ZEDOLLARS (G. Kliese) commenced to hang out and approaching and rounding the home turn hung out badly, placing G. Kliese at a disadvantage in riding his mount out. Trainer Mr W. Hetherington was advised that ZEDOLLARS was barred from competing at licensed meetings until it performs to the satisfaction of the stewards in an official trial.
