Race 3, Townsville Turf Club, 27th September 2005:

Jockey I. Toward, the rider of SPRITELY NED, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that near the 50 metres he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of CHAIN OF THOUGHT (G. Kliese), which was checked, clipped heels and lost its position. I. Toward was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on Saturday, 8th October 2005, up to and including 21st October 2005 (3NQ meetings).






Race 1: Paul Bowman QTIS Class 6 Handicap - 1400 metres
1st - TRICKY DICKY 2nd - KENWOOD ALLEGRO 3rd - MULLIGAN 4th - CYMBALIST

TOOBANNA (I. Toward) began awkwardly.

In the early stages FRISKY ROSE (W. Kenning) overraced.

In the straight MULLIGAN (D. Green) was held up and unable to obtain clear running until approaching the 50 metres and when shifted out to improve momentarily hampered FRISKY ROSE (W. Kenning), which was racing ungenerously.

On returning to scale I. Toward reported that near the 800 metres TOOBANNA struck the running rail and shifted out onto the heels of KENWOOD ALLEGRO (R. Ryan).

Race 2: Johnathan Thurston Class 4 Handicap - 1300 metres
1st - REJECTED 2nd - SISTER CATHERINE 3rd - TATANKA 4th - HURRICANE VIC

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow J. P. Stanley, the rider of TATANKA which finished third, and P. Cullen, the rider of SISTER CATHERINE, to view the official films. After viewing the films Jockey Stanley decided not to lodge an objection against SISTER CATHERINE being declared second..

At the start SISTER CATHERINE (P. Cullen) shifted in and brushed HUNTER SUPREME (S. Watkin). SISTER CATHERINE then travelled wide for the remainder of the event.

Rounding the home turn TATANKA (J. P. Stanley) had to be eased when tightened for room by LONE RANCHER (W. Kenning), which shifted in and away from SISTER CATHERINE (P. Cullen), which also shifted in slightly. W. Kenning and P. Cullen were advised that in future they would be expected to make a greater effort to keep their mounts straight.

Race 3: Matt Bowen Class 3 Handicap - 1630 metres
1st - KOMATIPOORT 2nd - CHECOTAH 3rd - EPONA’S BONUS 4th - ANNIE LUCK

As K. Penrose was unavailable for personal reasons, W. Kenning was substituted as the rider of ANNIE LUCK.

Trainer Mr B. Anderson was reprimanded under L.R. 70(1) for failing to declare M. Cullen as the rider of GALAXY FIGHTER by the prescribed time.

Apprentice T. Bannon was reprimanded under A.R. 92(12) for failing to claim her full allowance on KOMATIPOORT.





Race 4: Paul Rauhihi Class 3 Plate - 1000 metres
1st - TIME SWITCH 2nd - CONSIGLIERE 3rd - MY SALADDIN 4th - REGAL RANGER

Following the race the farrier reported that KAREEM (J. Stopps) had lost its off fore plate in running.


Race 5: Aaron Payne Class 1 Handicap - 1000 metres
1st - CAPTAIN WHELAND 2nd - WHAT’S TO COME 3rd - SIR TOFF 4th - ALPHA ROMEO GEORGE

Approaching the 800 metres CAPTAIN WHELAND (D. Green) shifted out abruptly and brushed SIR TOFF (S. Watkin).

In the early part of the straight THURLES (P. Cullen) was unable to obtain clear running.

When questioned about the performance of MISS KINGARYN, F. Edwards explained that the mare began well and shortly after the start when it was his opinion that he was going to be caught wide, he elected to ease his mount and take a sit. He said, however, that he then got shuffled back through the field and that in the straight MISS KINGARYN ran on only fairly.

Race 6: Travis Norton Class 2 Handicap - 1400 metres
1st - NORTH FIELD 2nd - TO PLEASE A LADY 3rd - BLAZING ARROW 4th - LOOKALANI

Trainer Mr E. Covell was reprimanded under L.R. 70 for failing to declare D. Green as the rider of NAPLES AVENUE by the prescribed time.

Trainer Mr P. Tuxworth was reprimanded under L. R. 70 for failing to declare W. Kenning as the rider of BYE BYE DIAMONDS by the prescribed time.

At the start VALLEY DANE (J. Stopps) shifted in and hampered NORTH FIELD (P. Cullen).

On jumping NORTH FIELD (J. P. Stanley) shifted in and made contact with NAPLES AVENUE (D. Green).

In the early part of the straight RIPATRICE (P. Cullen) was disappointed for a run then near the 300 metres attempted to shift out to improve and in doing so bumped VICTORY BEAU (I. Toward). P. Cullen was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Ms O. Cairns, the trainer of NORTH FIELD, was reprimanded for making a misleading statement to stewards in regard to the status of a person present in the enclosure following the event (A.R. 175(gg)).





Race 7: Graham Murray Maiden Handicap - 1300 metres
1st - STRENGTH AND HONOR 2nd - BURMARRAD 3rd - BIV ‘N’ BRAC 4th - CROSSING COUNTRY

Trainer Ms O. Cairns was advised by the stewards that she must clarify with the Trainers Service Centre the gear carried by IMAHERO.

After being placed in the barriers FAYLA (I. Toward) became fractious, got down in the stall and broke through, and then completed a circuit of the track. Stewards the withdrawal of FAYLA at 4.42 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on FAYLA be refunded in full and that all bets made with bookmakers be paid less the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of successful tickets: win 2¢, place 3¢. Trainer Mr M. Thomas was advised that FAYLA was barred from competing at licensed meetings until it performs to the satisfaction of the stewards in a jump-out.

At the start LADY LATAR (M. Elliott) shifted in and hampered MOSSY OAK (P. Cullen).

On jumping LOFTY HEIGHT (R. Ryan) shifted out and brushed IMAHERO (J. P. Stanley).

Near the 900 metres LOFTY HEIGHT (R. Ryan) shifted in slightly and bumped LADY LATAR (M. Elliott).

Leaving the 900 metres CROSSING COUNTRY (J. Stopps) initially shifted in slightly and when corrected by its rider shifted out and inconvenienced LADY LATAR (M. Elliott).

Race 8: NQ Cowboys Weight For Age - 1200 metres
1st - SILVER PATRIOT 2nd - STONEY PLANET 3rd - OVERSEAS 4th - ELASTICITY

Trainer Mr B. Anderson was reprimanded under L.R. 70(1) for failing to declare F. Edwards as the rider of SUDDEN STRIKE by the prescribed time.

BRUNT (W. Kenning) was slow to get into stride.

In the straight OVERSEAS (P. Cullen) was held up and unable to obtain clear running until near the 50 metres.
