At the start BE LUCKY (L. Buckingham) shifted out slightly and brushed CITY LANE (P. Cullen), then when corrected shifted in and hampered POSITIVELY WICKED (G. Farrer), which was checked and lost ground.
Jockey P. Cullen reported that approaching the home turn the saddle on CITY LANE rolled.
Near the 250 metres SNAP ATTACK (G. Kliese) shifted out and brushed the hindquarters of CITY LANE.
When questioned about the performance of SEQUEEMA, Jockey G. Cullen stated that the filly stood flat-footed when the gates opened and then raced greenly throughout. He added that whilst SEQUEEMA had trialled well recently, today the filly seemed somewhat reluctant to race inside other runners and did not finish off the race as expected. Trainer Mr B. Baker agreed that the performance of the horse was disappointing and he undertook to notify the stewards should anything that may have affected the performance of SEQUEEMA become apparent in the days following the race. A post-race veterinary examination of SEQUEEMA did not reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.

This was confirmed by the Club’s veterinary surgeon. Mr Chamberlain. Subsequently Mr Chamberlain informed stewards that he now intended to send GOBBLEDOOK for a short spell.
BOSSIE PRINCE (J. Felix) shifted out at the start, taking ZERO TO HERO (I. Toward) wider.
