Late riding changes:
When Jockey M. Elliott was indisposed, the following substitutions were made: Race 1, J. Stopps to ride UNICORN; Race 3, J. Stopps to ride CHIEF RED FEATHER; Race 7, G. Cullen to ride THIRD ROCK LAD; Race 8, J. Stopps to ride WALCHA; Race 9, J. Stopps to ride EAGLE REIGN.
When Jockey A. Best failed to arrive on course by the prescribed time, due to transport delays, G. Cullen was substituted as the rider of MADDINI in Race 1.
Race 1: Kovek Security Maiden Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – EXPECTING 2nd – KING ARNOLD 3rd – WISHFORADIAMOND 4th – FERRO
Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey I. Toward, the rider of FERRO which finished fourth, against KING ARNOLD (M. Dale) being declared second, alleging interference from the home turn to the winning post. After taking evidence from the parties involved and viewing the official video films, stewards found that leaving the 100 metres KING ARNOLD shifted in slightly resulting in FERRO having to alter course. Jockey M. Dale was advised that in future he would be expected to exercise more care.
On jumping BJELKE (J. Long) shifted in, struck the side of the gates and lost ground.
Shortly after the start EXPECTING (D. Crossland) shifted in taking WILDSIDE (I. Fry) in onto BJELKE (J. Long), which was hampered. Jockey D. Crossland was advised to make a greater effort to keep his mounts straight.
In the early stages WILDSIDE (I. Fry) raced ungenerously.
At about the 1000 metres UNICORN (J. Stopps) shifted in slightly and hampered MADDINI (G. Kliese), which had to be steadied, resulting in BJELKE (J. Long), which was following, having to be restrained to avoid the heels of UNICORN.
From the 500 metres to the 400 metres WILDSIDE (I. Fry) was inclined to shift in, placing its rider at a disadvantage in riding his mount along.
At about the 400 metres KING ARNOLD (M. Dale) shifted in abruptly and took the running of DOC’S LAMENT (P. Cullen), which was checked . FERRO (I. Toward), which was following, had to be steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of DOC’S LAMENT and in doing so carried UNICORN (J. Stopps) wider, obliging its rider to steady his mount to avoid the heels of DESERT DANGER (J. Felix). In the incident Jockey M. Dale, the rider of KING ARNOLD, accidentally dropped his whip.

1st – FLYING WOODPECKER 2nd – BACK OF HOUSE 3rd – MULLETT 4th – OUT TO LUNCH
BELL PARTNERS (I. Fry) was slow to begin.
At the start STAT (G. Kliese) and RESOUNDING VICTORY (P. Cullen) came together.
On jumping FLYING WOODPECKER (C. Whiteley) shifted in, taking CAVALIER APPROACH (G. Cullen) in onto RESOUNDING VICTORY (P. Cullen), which was further hampered.
In the early stages FLYING WOODPECKER (C. Whiteley) and MULLETT (L. Morrison) over-raced.
Leaving the 400 metres PICK OF PICKS (Apprentice S. Kaya) was momentarily tightened for room between CAVALIER APPROACH (G. Cullen) and RESOUNDING VICTORY (P. Cullen).
Race 3: Parry Nissan Family Raceday 11 June QTIS 2-Year-Old Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – LITTLE DREAMER 2nd – INDASKIES 3rd – HOSTILITY 4th – CHIEF RED FEATHER
OPTIMISM (D. Crossland) proved extremely difficult to load and was withdrawn by order of the stewards at 1.30 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on OPTIMISM be refunded in full and that all successful bets made with bookmakers prior to the withdrawal of OPTIMISM be paid less the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of tickets: win 39¢, place 23¢. Trainer Mr R. Chillemi as advised that OPTIMISM must perform to the satisfaction of the stewards in a jump-out before being permitted to race again.
At the start HOSTILITY (C. Whiteley) shifted in and when corrected shifted out and hampered PUBZ (A. Best).
Jockey P. Cullen reported that at approximately the 900 metres MASTARA commenced to race ungenerously.
Near the 800 metres HOSTILITY (C. Whiteley) shifted in and hampered CONTESTED BID (G. Kliese), which was taken in and caused minor inconvenience to MASTARA (P. Cullen), which was racing ungenerously, resulting in PUBZ (A. Best) having to be steadied momentarily. At the same time FIERY DIAMOND (J. Felix) brushed the running rail, shifted out and bumped PUBZ. FIERY DIAMOND then continued to race ungenerously until the 400 metres.
Near the 200 metres CONTESTED BID (G. Kliese), which was racing ungenerously, shifted out and brushed HOSTILITY (C. Whiteley), which became unbalanced, shifted in and bumped CONTESTED BID. Again near the 100 metres CONTESTED BID shifted out while continuing to race erratically and bumped HOSTITLITY, resulting in Jockey G. Kliese being placed in considerable difficulty in testing his mount fully over the concluding stages.
Jockey J. Stopps reported that approaching the 150 metres CHIEF RED FEATHER shifted out abruptly for no apparent reason.
Race 4: Queensland Racing Class 1 Handicap (1st Div) – 1000 metres
1st – HOT DICE 2nd – KUAI 3rd – GRIFFIN GATE 4th – YOU OME ONE
As the start was effected, CORACLE BELLE (F. Edwards), which had been fractious in the barriers, reared and lost ground.
At the start PUNCHINELLO (J. Felix) shifted in and bumped WONQUALO (A. Best), which was taken in and hampered CARRY THE REGENT (I. Fry).
On jumping YOU OME ONE (C. Whiteley) shifted in and hampered LOYAL HEART (Apprentice P. Edwards).
Near the 600 metres PUNCHINELLO (J. Felix) shifted in for no apparent reason and struck the running rail.
Apprentice S. Kaya pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R.137(a) in that near the 200 metres he permitted SWEEP ON BY to shift out when insufficiently clear of WONQUALO (A. Best), which had to be checked. Apprentice Kaya was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on Saturday, 19th May 2007, up to and including Thursday, 31st May 2007 (4 NQ meetings).
Race 5: Garrards Horse & Hound Class 1 Handicap (2nd Div) – 1000 metres
1st – GULAGA 2nd – WONKAVATOR 3rd – SIR TOFF 4th – GURU CHEIRON
Trainer Ms O. Cairns was fined $100 under A.R.140B(1) for presenting GULAGA with other than its approved gear, namely, with bar plates in front.
RASH DECISION (J. Long) was slow to get into stride.
SIR TOFF (D. Crossland) began awkwardly.
In the early stages BIALYSTOCK (G. Kliese) was inclined to over-race.
At about the 700 metres WONKAVATOR (L. Morrison) stepped out momentarily and hampered RASH DECISION (J. Long) which resented having to race in restricted room and had to be restrained. Jockey L. Morrison was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Following the race it was reported that MY CORVETT (A. Best) had bled from both nostrils. As this was the second time the gelding had bled, MY CORVETT was barred from racing for life under A.R. 53A(5).
Race 6: Fishing & Outdoor Expo @ TTC 2 & 3 June Class 3 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – 2nd – 3rd – 4th –
After being placed in the barriers FINAL SCORE (L. Morrison) broke through initially and subsequently all other barrier gates opened and all horses left the barriers. Several horses completed a circuit of the course and others ran various distances before being pulled up. When questioned the starter informed stewards that he had not effected a start and that the false start mechanism had not worked. Acting under A. R. 139, stewards declared the race void.
Race 7: Townsville Bulletin Class 2 Handicap – 1300 metres
1st – POSITRON 2nd – WHY CUT A RIVER 3rd – THIRD ROCK LAD 4th – RAGAZZO
At the start POSITRON (I. Fry) shifted out and made contact with HOT AIR (W. Kenning).
At about the 50 metres POSITRON (I. Fry) shifted in and momentarily hampered the running of FRISCO BOPPER (P. Cullen).
Following the race Jockey C. Whiteley reported that in his opinion EAGLE HEIGHTS was sore. A subsequent veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Ms J. Ryan was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be provided prior to the gelding being permitted to race again.
Race 8: SKY International Class 4 Handicap – 1400 metres
1st – HIGHER YIELD 2nd – ENDLESS WALTZ 3rd – SOLIDIFIED 4th – KALGOORLIE KID
Trainer Ms M. Young was fined $50 under L.R. 42(2) for failing to lodge an amended stable return regarding the ownership of WALCHA.
Trainer Ms C. Lindgren was fined $50 under L.R. 42(2) for failing to lodge an amended stable return regarding the ownership of SHENNA’S PRICE.
HIGHER YIELD (N. Day) began awkwardly, shifted out and inconvenienced SHENNA’S PRIDE (I. Fry), which lost ground.
CHECOTAH (A. Best) was held up and unable to obtain clear running for the entire length of the straight.
Race 9: WIN Local News Handicap – 1630 metres
1st – WILL TO ENDURE 2nd – MULLIGAN 3rd – TINTAGEL 4th – OVERSEAS
Trainer Mr M. Reynolds was fined $100 under A.R.140B(1) for presenting JAR JAR BINKS with other than its approved gear.
TINTAGEL (L. Morrison) was slow to begin.
