Race 1: Hills In Hollywood Maiden Plate – 1000 metres
1st – HEY SISSY 2nd – LUCKY REIGN 3rd – JAKHANSAR 4th – MONASHEE MISS

At the start BETTAWATCHOUT (W. Kenning) shifted in and bumped LUTUFF (M. Dale).

For a short distance near the 600 metres MY BOY JACK (Apprentice S. Kaya) was buffeted when racing in restricted room between BURMARRAD (Apprentice P. Edwards) and YOU’RE FIRED (D. Crossland).

At the 300 metres MY BOY JACK (Apprentice S. Kaya) was shifted out to obtain clear running and inconvenienced GENORELL (P. Cullen). Apprentice Kaya was admonished and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

When questioned about the performance of GENORELL, Jockey P. Cullen explained that he had been instructed to allow the gelding, which was having its first start at Townsville, to settle early and then work into the race. He said that in his opinion failed to handle today’s track conditions but ran on fairly over the concluding stages.

Race 2: MIX 106.3FM Class 1 Handicap – 1300 metres
1st – SHENNA’S PRIDE 2nd - TAX BREAK 3rd – SHONARY 4th - ORIENTAL HEIGHTS
When asked about the performance of CORACLE BELLE, Jockey J. Felix explained that he had been instructed to ride the filly in a forward position, but he was held up behind other runners and was not able to do so. He added that when placed under pressure in the straight CORACLE BELLE failed to respond to his riding.

GOLDEN POINT (S. Watkin) stood flat-footed when the start was effected and lost ground.

Following the race Jockey I. Fry reported that TAX BREAK laid out from the 400 metres.

Race 3: WHK-TCM Smith Class 2 Handicap – 1630 metres
1st – CARRY THE REGENT 2nd – COLD PRESSED 3rd – ROCCABAROCCA 4th – VUSCAR

In the early stages ROCCABAROCCA (W. Kenning) over-raced.

At about the 1200 metres HARDLY A GAME (P. Cullen) over-raced and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of runners in front.

On straightening GEORGE (G. Cullen) was momentarily held up for clear running to the inside of COLD PRESSED (S. Watkin), had to be steadied and changed course.

Following the race Jockey W. Kenning reported that ROCCABAROCCA was sore on pulling up.

Race 4: Pat Molloy Jewellers Class 6 Plate – 1400 metres
1st – CROSS BAR 2nd – JON RON 3rd – GONZALO 4th – WINDANE DO

After arriving on course STAT, which travelled badly in the float, was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

At the start WINDANE DO (G. Kliese) shifted in and BLAZING ARROW (J. Stopps) shifted out, taking STAT (Apprentice S. Kaya) out onto TSOLIAS (I. Fry), which in turn was taken out onto SHAMIR (Apprentice P. Edwards), which for a number of strides was buffeted between WINDANE DO and TSOLIAS.

Near the 1200 metres SHAMIR (Apprentice P. Edwards) was reluctant to settle, stepped inwards and inconvenienced TSOLIAS (I. Fry).

Jockey S. Watkin reported that CAVALIER APPROACH failed to handle the track conditions and between the 700 metres and the 500 metres raced ungenerously in restricted room. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Race 5: Townsville Veterinary Clinic Dollars 3-Year-Old Class 6 Handicap – 1400 metres
1st – EXPECTING 2nd – CATWALK STRUT 3rd – DOMINATE KING 4th – HEDZ

HEDZ (F. Edwards) began awkwardly.

Near the 650 metres CATWALK STRUT (J. Stopps) lost its footing, slipped behind and lost ground.

When questioned about the run of MIGHTY MITE, Jockey J. Felix explained that he had been instructed to have the gelding racing midfield, but despite his efforts he was unable to do so. He said that in his opinion MIGHTY MITE did not handle the track conditions.

Race 6: Lamont Constructions Class 4 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – SIERRA SLAMMER 2nd – TRICKSWITHMIRRORS 3rd – HURRICANE ROAD 4th – BRIEF ALLIANCE

On the way to the barriers CORPORATE CUP dislodged its rider, Jockey J. Long, who suffered a harmless fall. CORPORATE CUP was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

After being placed in the barriers PALACE MINSTREL (J. Stopps) laid on the side of the gate and became very fractious. PALACE MINSTREL was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start. Trainer Mr J. Petersen was advised that the mare must perform to the satisfaction of the stewards in a jump-out before being permitted to race again.

At the start GREAT ACTOR (M. Dale) shifted in and tightened LEGAL JARGON (I. Fry), which was taken in onto HURRICANE ROAD (D. Crossland).

Near the 1000 metres CORPORATE CUP (J. Long) over-raced.

From the 500 metres until straightening for home GREAT ACTOR (M. Dale) was unable to obtain clear running and had to be restrained.

Jockey J. Stopps, the rider of PALACE MINSTREL, accidentally dropped his whip at the 200 metres.

Race 7: Jupiters Winter Cup Open Handicap – 2100 metres
1st – RESOUNDING VICTORY 2nd – LEGAL BRIEF 3rd – KALGOORLIE KID 4th – LLAMA LIP

Apprentice G. Clegg pleaded guilty to a charge under A.R. 118A in that he presented himself to ride WYOMING with a body protector different to the one with which he weighed out. Apprentice Clegg was fined $150.

On jumping WYOMING (Apprentice G. Clegg) shifted in and bumped HAVANA WIND (G. Kliese), which was slow to get into stride and in the early stages over-raced.

In the early stages LEGAL BRIEF (I. Fry) over-raced.

In the straight KALGOORLIE KID (J. Felix) was held up for a run and near the 200 metres was shifted out abruptly to obtain clear running.

Leaving the 200 metres SLAVENGER (I. Toward) got its tongue over the bit.
