Late Riding Changes:
When Jockey T. Pannell was indisposed and unable to fulfil his engagements, the following substitutions were made: Race 2, B. El-Issa to ride FREESIA; Race 3, B. El-Issa to ride PABLOS PRIDE; Race 4, B. El-Issa to ride HEATHROW; Race 7, D. Adam to ride RIVER HUNTER; Race 8, G. Kliese to ride POSITRON.
When Apprentice L. Fyfe failed to arrive on course to fulfil his engagements, the following substitutions were made: Race 5, Apprentice D. Peisley to ride ROAD TO PERSIA; Race 6, Apprentice A. Coome to ride BECQUEREL. Apprentice L. Fyfe was fined $200 under L.R. 51(1).
Race 1: Hahn Super Dry Maiden Plate – 1630 metres
1st – CAROLINA’S BELLE 2nd – GREAT PORTENT 3rd – FAVORITE IDOL 4th – UNCLE LENNY
VETTAWIN (J. Taylor) was a little slow to begin.
Rounding the home turn UNCLE LENNY (D. Adam) hung out.
Race 2: Tooheys Extra Dry Maiden Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – FREESIA 2nd – WISHFORADIAMOND 3rd – DEMOS 4th – JULYENCLAIRI
VOODOO RED MAGIC, which injured itself when being loaded onto the float, was a late scratching, at 10.25 a.m., by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice.
As Jockey S. Watkin was late arriving on course by the prescribed time due to transport difficulties, J. Taylor was substituted as the rider of TAKARAZUKA.
As the start was effected YOU’RE FIRED (F. Edwards) reared resulting in Jockey F. Edwards striking his head on the barrier partition and placing him in considerable difficulty in fully testing his mount throughout the event. Jockey F. Edwards was examined by the Ambulance Officers and passed fit to fulfil his further engagements.
At the 950 metres JULYENCLAIRI (W. Kenning) was eased momentarily when racing in restricted room to the inside of WISHFORADIAMOND (C. Whiteley).
At about the 300 metres BROOKSTEAD BABE (D. Evans) shifted out and made contact with GENEROUS GEM (J. Felix), which was taken wider.
Race 3: McKenna Bourbon QTIS 2-Year-Old Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – PUBZ 2nd – SPLENDOROUS 3rd – BERRIGAN BABY 4th – CHIEF RED FEATHER
PABLOS PRIDE (B. El-Issa) was slow to begin.
DODGY MISS (J. Long) jumped inwards at the start.
FIERY DIAMOND (G. Kliese) began awkwardly.
In the early stages WHATEVERDAD (J. Taylor) refused to settle.
In the middle stages SPLENDOROUS (C. Whiteley) over-raced.
At the 350 metres BERRIGAN BABY (P. Cullen) stepped out and made contact with FIERY DIAMOND (G. Kliese). BERRIGAN BABY then continued to lay out under pressure for the remainder of the race.
Race 4: XXXX Bitter Class 3 Plate – 1000 metres
1st – LIDIANA 2nd – GOLDMORE 3rd – HEATHROW 4th – LIGHTED
When the start was effected the gates on barrier 4 failed to open and UNAMICO had to force them open and then knuckled. After taking evidence from Jockey D. Crossland and the Official Starter stewards found that UNAMICO had been denied a fair start and declared it a non-runner. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on UNAMICO be refunded in full and that all successful bets made with bookmakers be paid less the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of tickets: win 27¢, place 19¢.
Following the race it was noted that THIRD ROCK LAD had bled from both nostrils. As this was the first time THIRD ROCK LAD had bled, trainer Ms C. Williams was advised that the gelding was barred from racing for a period of three months under A.R. 53A.
Race 5: Wanless Wastecorp Bracelet Fillies and Mares Class 6 Handicap – 1300 metres
1st – OUR QUICK TESS 2nd – EXPECTING 3rd – SHAKEVA 4th – PASSAGEMAKER
SWEEPING AWAY, which injured itself when being loaded onto the float, was a late scratching, at 10.25 a.m., by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice.
SHAKEVA (I. Toward) missed the start and then hung out throughout the event, especially over the final stages.
Race 6: Diva Cosmetics Class 4 Handicap – 1400 metres
1st – CINNAMON ROAD 2nd – HIGHER YIELD 3rd – BRIEF ALLIANCE 4th – INDOMATO
After arriving behind the barriers CHECOTAH (Apprentice D. Peisley) was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
On jumping WINAQUA (I. Fry) shifted in and made heavy contact with CARRY ON ACE (F. Edwards), which began awkwardly.
SHAMIR (J. Taylor) shifted in at the start, then in the early stages over-raced.
Between the 1100 metres and the 900 metres HIGHER YIELD (N. Day) over-raced and had to be steadied, and on straightening was held up and unable to obtain clear running.
Jockey D. Crossland reported that in the early part of the straight CINNAMON ROAD laid in, then at about the 100 metres shifted in and hampered BRIEF ALLIANCE (G. Kliese).
Over the final stages BECQUEREL (Apprentice A. Coome) was disappointed for clear running.
A post-race veterinary examination of BECQUEREL (A. Coome) revealed that the gelding’s nearside hind leg had been galloped resulting in a laceration to the hock.
Race 7: XXXX Gold Cleveland Bay Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – SEA ZULU 2nd – ALTERNATE 3rd – JACK AND ICE 4th – PAWIE
At the start SEA ZULU (J. Felix) shifted in onto DON’T TELL TOM (Apprentice T. Bannon), which was taken in onto PROUD NATIVE (P. Cullen), which had to steady.
ONALAR (Apprentice A. Coome) shifted out at the start.
On jumping HOTELIER (C. Whiteley) shifted in and bumped PAWIE (I. Toward).
Jockey I. Toward pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A. R. 137(a) in that near the 300 metres he permitted PAWIE to shift out when insufficiently clear of HOTELIER (C. Whiteley), resulting in that horse being dictated outwards and taking the running of CRAFTY KING (G. Kliese), which was checked and lost its position in the field. Jockey I. Toward was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on Saturday, 28th July 2007, up to and including 11th August 2007 (4NQ meetings). In addition Jockey Toward was fined $500.
Race 8: Tooheys New Class 2 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – EAGLE HEIGHTS 2nd – POSITRON 3rd – HALO TO HEAVEN 4th – FOREST WHISPERS
SLUGGER (Apprentice P. Edwards), TACTICAL JACK (B. El-Issa) and HALO TO HEAVEN (Apprentice D. Peisley) were all slow to begin.
At about the 900 metres STRICTLY STYLE (J. Felix) laid in momentarily and hampered HALO TO HEAVEN (Apprentice D. Peisley), which had to be steadied.
Jockey D. Crossland reported that from the 800 metres WHY CUT A RIVER hung out, placing him at a disadvantage in fully testing his mount.
