Race 1: Hastings Printers Class 6 Plate – 1400 metres
1st - MIGHTY MITE 2nd – CUPBEARER 3rd – OUT TO LUNCH 4th – HIGH MOUNTAIN
Jockey F. Edwards pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that at about the 1100 metres he permitted TENNESSEE RAINBOW to shift in when insufficiently clear of SUCROSE (Apprentice S. Kaya), which was checked and lost its position in the field. Jockey Edwards was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on Monday, 28th January 2008, up to and including 15th February 2008 (4NQ meetings).
Over the concluding stages MIGHTY MITE (I. Toward) laid in, placing Jockey I. Toward at a disadvantage in fully testing his mount with the whip.
Race 2: www.Townsvilleturfclub.com.au Handicap - 1200 metres
1st - POWER EXPRESS 2nd - ON BAIL 3rd - UMALORD 4th - SLICK SCORE
On jumping SLICK SCORE (P. Cullen) shifted in and brushed ON BAIL (I. Toward).
Over the final 50 metres UMALORD (I. Fry) laid in.
Race 3: Garrards Horse & Hound Maiden Plate - 1300 metres

At the start BLISTERING MISS (I. Toward) shifted in and bumped GRAND LIST (G. Cullen).
On jumping LEND ME A DIME (M. Heagney) shifted in and made contact with CHIMERA STAR (Apprentice S. Kaya), and then was slow to get into stride.
SHOWING TERRIFIC (L. Morrison) was unable to obtain clear running from the home turn until leaving the 300 metres.
Near the 300 metres GRAND LIST (G. Cullen) shifted out to obtain clear running and inconvenienced VOODOO RED MAGIC (F. Edwards).
Race 4: SKY Channel Maiden Handicap - 1000 metres
1st - GREY HUNTER 2nd - BETTY LEE 3rd - ZIVADOR 4th - PHOTOMETRY
After arriving behind the barriers KARIOISLASTCHOICE (F. Edwards) had to be resaddled.
The start was delayed when SOBER TYCOON (J. Stopps) was reluctant to come up to the barriers and proved difficult to load. Trainer Ms C. Hurle was advised that the gelding must perform to the satisfaction of the stewards in an official barrier trial before being permitted to race again.
On jumping KARIOSLASTCHOICE (F. Edwards) and DESERT DUCHESS (G. Cullen) came together.
RANMOORO (C. Eaton) was slow to begin.
At about the 700 metres BETTY LEE (B. Pengelly) stepped in and tightened MOET DIVA (I. Fry) in onto DESERT DUCHESS (G. Cullen), which was steadied. Jockey B. Pengelly immediately attempted to relieve the pressure when his horse shifted ground.
When questioned about the performance of KARIOISLASTCHOICE, Jockey F. Edwards explained that after beginning fairly the gelding stepped inside the line of the course proper and when shifted out commenced to race intractably. He said that when he attempted to restrain KARIOISLASTCHOICE, the horse got its head up and refused to settle.
When asked about the run of PHOTOMETRY, Jockey D. Evans explained that he had been instructed to ride the gelding quietly in the early stages to see if it could finish off the race better than it had done at its most recent starts. He said that he rode PHOTOMETRY in accordance with those instructions, but that when the horse was restrained it commenced to lay out and in his opinion did not handle today’s track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination of PHOTOMETRY revealed that the gelding had swelling of the offside knee. Trainer Mr J. Robbins was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be provided prior to PHOTOMETRY being permitted to race again. An analytical sample was ordered to be taken.
Race 5: Tooheys Extra Dry QTIS Class 3 Plate - 1000 metres

NEXT SIZE UP (A. Cox) was slow to begin.
On straightening for home CONTESTED BID (G. Kliese) shifted out to obtain clear running and bumped GURU CHEIRON (G. Cullen).
Jockey I. Fry was severely admonished for permitting POSITRON to shift in marginally rounding the home turn and tightening the running of NEXT SIZE UP (A. Cox), which made contact with the running rail and lost its position.
Race 6: Jupiters Townsville Class 6 Handicap Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – PIRAEUS 2nd – CENTGEORGE 3rd – ARCHIE 4th – SHANGHAI SULTAN
Approaching the 1000 metres PIRAEUS (A. Cox) shifted out, taking RED ENZO (C. Eaton)out, resulting in ARCHIE (M. Heagney) having to shift across the heels of RED ENZO, causing CENTGEORGE (I. Toward) to be steadied and shifted out.
CENTGEORGE then raced awkwardly for some distance. Jockey A. Cox was severely admonished.
For some distance near the 550 metres ARCHIE (M. Heagney) was held up for clear running and had to be restrained away from the heels of WHYDINYA (L. Morrison).
When questioned about her riding of WHYDINYA, Jockey L. Morrison said that the gelding began fairly and travelled well in the early and middle stages, but failed to finish the race off. Jockey Morrison was advised that she must ride her mounts so as to leave no room for query and to show more vigour hands and heels. She was also told that in future stewards will monitor her action in gathering the reins.
Jockey B. Pengelly, the rider of JURIFY, was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out, at least hands and heels, right to the finish.
Race 7: Ambassador Travel Class 2 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – SILENT TIDE 2nd – UP TO MISCHIEF 3rd – SOUND HARMONY 4th – POWER LINES
When the start was effected DANCE AVENUE (P. Cullen) stood flat-footed and lost considerable ground. Trainer Mr D. Plaza was advised that the mare must perform to the satisfaction of the stewards in a jump-out before being permitted to race again.
Near the 1150 metres POWER LINES (C. Eaton) shifted in momentarily and bumped SILENT TIDE (F. Edwards), which was taken in onto UP TO MISCHIEF (Apprentice S. Kaya), which made contact with TIDYS TAIL (M. Heagney), which was checked and lost its position. At the same time UNPARTED (I. Toward) shifted out slightly, resulting in TIDYS TAIL being taken back out onto UP TO MISCHIEF and SILENT TIDE. In the incident Jockey C. Eaton stopped riding POWER LINES and straightened her mount. Jockey I. Toward was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
In the early and middle stages UNPARTED (I. Toward) over-raced.
When questioned about the performance of DIGITUP, Jockey L. Morrison said that the horse began well and enjoyed a good run, but was disappointing and in her opinion failed to handle today’s track conditions.
Race 8: RST Air Conditioning Class 1 Handicap – 1400 metres
1st – APPELLANT 2nd – BAG OF DIAMONDS 3rd – DODGE LARRY 4th – NOTHIN’ LEICA GIRL
LAMBOURN JEWEL (Apprentice S. Kaya) jumped inwards at the start.
When asked about the performance of PERFECT LIGHT, Jockey L. Morrison stated that the gelding had enjoyed a good run, but failed to run on after the 900 metres and was very disappointing.
Stewards opened an inquiry into the running and handling of PALISADE (W. Kenning). After taking evidence from Jockey W. Kenning stewards adjourned the inquiry to a time and date to be fixed. A post-race veterinary examination of PALISADE did not reveal any abnormalities.
Race 9: Queensland Racing Class 3 Handicap – 1400 metres
1st – ADMIRAL ROGERS 2nd – MISTRESS QUICKLY 3rd – NORTHERN COMMANDER 4th – GUM SCRUB
Jockey L. Morrison was admonished for wearing the wrong colours when riding THE BIG ZIG.
At the start GUM SCRUB (P. Cullen) shifted out onto ZIPSNIP (A. Cox), which was inconvenienced.
When questioned about the performance of THE BIG ZIG, Jockey L. Morrison explained that the gelding, which was resuming after a spell, began well but failed to finish the race off. She added that in her opinion THE BIG ZIG was now looking for races over a longer distance.
