Long to ride TEXAS FLOOD. Apprentice Bogenhuber must furnish a medical clearance before being permitted to ride again.
Race 1: Giruan Engineering Maiden Handicap – 1630 metres
1st – VOODOO RED MAGIC 2nd – AUSGOLD 3rd – SNOWCRAFT 4th – MALS BOY
BUNGY CORD (P. Cullen) was slow to begin.
SNOWCRAFT (I. Toward) jumped awkwardly.
Near the 600 metres BUNGY CORD (P. Cullen) and VOODOO RED MAGIC (I. Fry) came together.
Rounding the home turn GOVERNOR KELLY (L. Morrison) shifted out and bumped BUNGY CORD (P. Cullen).
Apprentice C. McCallum pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that near the 250 metres he permitted MALS BOY to shift out across the heels of CANNY DODGE (F. Edwards) when insufficiently clear of GOVERNOR KELLY (L. Morrison), which became unbalanced, shifted out and tightened the running of BUNGY CORD (P. Cullen), which was checked. Apprentice McCallum was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on Sunday, 4th May 2008, up to and including Tuesday, 13th May 2008 (7 Queensland meetings).
Race 2: Brisbane Bloodstock Bonus 2-Year-Old Handicap - 1000 metres
1st – SIR NICOLLS 2nd – FRED THE LEGION 3rd – DIAMOND PURSUIT 4th – PUBZ BARON
At the start PEOPLE’S CHOICE (I. Fry) was tightened for room between COSTA RICA (P. Cullen) and FRED THE LEGION (I. Toward), which shifted out away from ARENA GOLD (G. Kliese), which began awkwardly.
Approaching the 900 metres COSTA RICA (P. Cullen) was crowded for room between FRED THE LEGION (I. Toward), which shifted out slightly, and PUBZ BARON (D. Crossland), which shifted in. Jockey D. Crossland was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
In the early and middle stages DIAMOND PURSUIT (L. Morrison) raced wide, and near the 500 metres had to be steadied off the heels of ARCHIE’S JOY (Apprentice C. McCallum).
Race 3: Garrards Horse & Hound Class 1 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – BLUE FAIRY 2nd – MENORAH 3rd – GARRA LAD 4th – UNSTOPPABLE LADY
Trainer Mr G. Dempsey was fined $100 under L.R. 70(1) for failing to declare G. Cullen as the rider of FIRST TIME by the prescribed time.
The start of the race was delayed to allow an adjustment to be made to the gear of AUSTRALIAN ARCH (C. Whiteley).
BLUSHOW (Apprentice C. McCallum) began awkwardly and then raced wide throughout.
Between the 600 metres and the 400 metres MENORAH (I. Fry) raced in restricted room.
At about the 500 metres UNSTOPPABLE LADY (N. Day) shifted out, taking BLUSHOW (Apprentice C. McCallum) wider.
From the 300 metres until after the 200 metres AUSTALIAN ARCH (C. Whiteley) was held up and unable to obtain clear running.
When questioned about the performance of GARRA LAD, Jockey P. Cullen explained that he had been instructed to allow the gelding to settle where he was comfortable early, but that he was of the opinion that he had erred in allowing GARRA LAD to race further back than anticipated. He added that when he placed the gelding under pressure from the 500 metres the horse had responded and finished the race off well. The explanation tendered by Jockey Cullen was noted. A post-race veterinary examination of GARRA LAD revealed the gelding had sustained an injury to its nearside eye. Trainer Mr G. Strickland was advised that he must furnish a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to GARRA LAD being permitted to race again.
When asked about the performance of AUSTRALIAN ARCH, Jockey C. Whiteley explained that the gelding, which was having its first start after a long spell and was racing over an unsuitable distance, raced ungenerously early but when put under pressure in the home straight worked home fairly. The explanation was noted. A
Post-race veterinary examination of AUSTRALIAN ARCH revealed that the gelding was lame in both forelegs. Trainer Ms J. Ryan was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be provided prior to AUSTRALIAN ARCH being permitted to race again.
Race 4: 8 Platoon 2 RAR QTIS Maiden Handicap - 1200 metres
1st – THE MUSE 2nd – SUPER CHOI 3rd – INDASKIES 4th – GENERAL MACARTHUR
NORTHERN DUST (Apprentice C. McCallum), which was having its first race start, began awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and lost considerable ground, then commenced to race ungenerously and in the straight hung out badly. Trainer Mr W. Hetherington was advised that the gelding must perform to the satisfaction of the stewards in an official barrier trial before being permitted to race again.
At about the 400 metres THE MUSE (L. Morrison) shifted to the outside of ZIVADOR (S. Watkin) and made contact with SUPER CHOI (I. Fry), which over-reacted and shifted out, resulting in BARRAMUNDI TOM (A. Cox) being taken wider.
When questioned about the running of GENERAL MACARTHUR, Jockey G. Cullen explained that he had been instructed to ride the gelding with cover in the early stages, however the horse stumbled shortly after the start. He said that he urged his mount, which was inclined to hang, forward from the 600 metres and when put under pressure in the straight GENERAL MACARTHUR went to the line well.

POSITRON (I. Fry) was slow to begin.
VISCOUNT GRAND (W. Kenning) raced wide throughout.
In the early stages CHERRY GAZE (G. Kliese) raced wide.
For the majority of the straight POSITRON (I. Fry) was held up and unable to obtain clear running and went to the line untested.
Near the 150 metres FLIPPER MACARTNEY (N. Day) shifted to the outside of CHEYENNE KID (F. Edwards) to improve and tightened the running of TEDDY BARE (C. Whiteley), resulting in CORPORATE CUP (P. Cullen) having to check when tightened between TEDDY BARE and VISCOUNT GRAND (W. Kenning). Jockey N. Day was given the benefit of the doubt as to whether he was solely responsible for the incident. Nevertheless, he was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise more care.

Day), which shifted ground slightly. Jockey D. Missen was given the benefit of the doubt as to whether he had stopped riding his mount along in sufficient time, however he was severely reprimanded and advises to exercise more care.
A post-race veterinary examination of BELL PARTNERS revealed that the near hind leg of the gelding had been galloped on.
