Cox to ride SOUND HARMONY; Race 7, A. Cox to ride OUR MORNING GLORY; Race 8, to ride SCUTT.

When Jockey P. Cullen was indisposed, the following substitutions were made: Race 1, J. Stopps to ride LIAM’S LUCK; Race 5, F. Edwards to ride GUM SCRUB; Race 6, F. Edwards to ride TRUSS; Race 8, D. Crossland to ride EVIDENCE.

As Apprentice C. Isdale was delayed because of transport difficulties and no apprentice rider was available, permission was given for Jockey F. Edwards to be substituted as the rider of SUPER AMY in Race 2.

Race 1: Sky International QTIS 2YO Madien Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – DIAMOND PURSUIT 2nd – PEOPLE’S CHOICE 3rd – SHOVNCO 4th – LIAM’S LUCK

At the start SUNDAYTOOFARAWAY (S. Kaya) shifted in, taking VOODOO POWER (C. Eaton) in onto ARCHIE’S JOY (Apprentice P. Edwards) which had been slow to begin.

Jockey S. Kaya pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A. R. 137(a) in that near the 1100 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of ARCHIE’S JOY (Apprentice P. Edwards), which was checked and taken in onto the hindquarters of LIAM’S LUCK (J. Stopps), which was turned outwards and took the running of ARCHIE’S JOY. Jockey Kaya was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on Saturday, 17th May 2008 up to and including 5th June 2008 (6 NQ meetings).

Approaching the 600 metres PEOPLE’S CHOICE (I. Fry), which was hanging in, shifted in and tightened SHOVNCO (G. Kliese). Jockey I. Fry was cautioned and advised to exercise more care.

Race 2: Outdoor & Fishing Expo 31 May & 1 June Maiden Handicap - 1200 metres
1st – SHAROPE DANCER 2nd – BOISSIERE 3rd – SUPER AMY 4th – SUPER CHOI

When Jockey P. Cullen was indisposed and no other rider was available, stewards ordered the withdrawal of ADUBAIKNIGHT at 10.10 a.m.

When Apprentice S. Bogenhuber was delayed because of transport difficulties and no other rider was available, stewards ordered the withdrawal of EDENLINE at 11.25 a.m.

The start was delayed when CHIMERA STAR (Apprentice P. Edwards) had to be resaddled in the enclosure.

CHAINGANG (G. Kliese) was slow to begin.

On jumping SOVEREIGN SEA (J. Stopps) shifted in and crowded KILMUIR NAREEN (C. Eaton) and when corrected shifted out onto SUPER CHOI (I. Fry), which had to be steadied.

STEEL QUEEN (A. Cox) began awkwardly.

At the start SHAROPE DANCER (C. Whiteley) shifted out and bumped SUPER AMY (F. Edwards).

CHIMERA STAR (Apprentice P. Edwards) raced wide throughout.

Rounding the home turn BOISSIERE (D. Crossland), which was held up and unable to obtain clear running, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of INDASKIES (S. Kaya) and knuckled.

Race 3: Judge Bros Electrical 3YO Maiden Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – GENERAL MACARTHUR 2nd – SIMONE’S GOT CLASS 3rd – SHINING CHARM 4th – SWEET HONEYDEW

TRULY BONDED (G. Kliese) was slow to begin.

SIMONE’S GOT CLASS (S. Kaya) began awkwardly.

Approaching the 850 metres GENERAL MACARTHUR (G. Cullen) shifted out slightly onto SHINING CHARM (C. Eaton), which was taken out onto FACE CARD (Apprentice P. Edwards). At the same time SWEET HONEYDEW (I. Fry) shifted in when not clear of FACE CARD, which was checked. Jockey G. Cullen was advised to take greater care in similar circumstances. Jockey I. Fry was cautioned and advised to take more care of his fellow riders.

When asked about the performance of VOIRE, Jockey I. Toward explained that he had been instructed to take up a forward position, but when the start was effected he was of the opinion that there may have been a false start and consequently he missed the start slightly and rather than be caught wide he elected to allow the colt to settle and take up a position closer to the running rail. He added that VOIRE failed to finish the race off and was disappointing.

Race 4: Parry Nissan-Family Race Day 9 June Class 1 Handicap - 1200 metres
1st – JAZZINO 2nd – ROY’S JOY 3rd – THE MUSE 4th – COUNT OF EIGHT

Shortly after the start COUNT OF EIGHT (F. Edwards) laid in across the heels of JAZZINO (Apprentice P. Edwards) and had to be restrained.

In the early stages TOLENTINO (C. Eaton) hung in.

From the home turn to the winning post THE MUSE (C. Whiteley) and TOLENTINO (C. Eaton) were inclined to lay in.

Following the race the Club’s veterinary surgeon reported that COUNT OF EIGHT (F. Edwards) had blood in its mouth from a small laceration to the lip.

Race 5: Queensland Owners Card 4 Handicap - 1000 metres
1st – SPARKLING RULER 2nd – GOLDMORE 3rd – MUSCLE UP 4th – LOVE YOUR WAYS

On jumping, GOLDMORE (J. Stopps) shifted in and brushed SOUND HARMONY (A. Cox).

At the start SPARKLING RULER (D. Crossland) and GUM SCRUB (F. Edwards) came together.

Race 6: SKY Channel Open Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – SEA ZULU/PRINCE OF STEEL (DH) 3rd – TRUSS 4th – JAZZOOM

Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey C. Whiteley, the rider of PRINCE OF STEEL which dead-heated for first, against the other dead-heater, SEA ZULU (Apprentice C. Isdale), alleging interference near the 300 metres. After taking evidence from the parties involved and viewing the official video films, stewards dismissed the protest when they found that when SEA ZULU shifted ground near the 300 metres it was clear of PRINCE OF STEEL. Accordingly, correct weight was declared.

POWER EXPRESS (G. Kliese) was unable to obtain clear running for the entire length of the straight, placing its rider at a disadvantage in fully testing his mount.

At about the 600 metres JAZZOOM (Apprentice P. Edwards) shifted in and hampered PRINCE OF STEEL (C. Whiteley), which became unbalanced. Apprentice Edwards was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Race 7: Garrards Horse & Hound Class 6 Plate – 1400 metres
1st – SHOOT FIRST 2nd – CASA DOMANI 3rd – MAMELUKE 4th – HIGH PRIORITY

In the early and middle stages WYOMING (D. Crossland) over-raced, taking ALLWOOD (C. Eaton) wider on the track.

When questioned about the run of MAMELUKE, Jockey G. Kliese explained that from its wide alley he had been instructed to ride the gelding where it was comfortable. He said, however, that after beginning only fairly from his wide barrier he elected to take up a position behind SHOOT FIRST and that MAMELUKE had finished the race off well.

Race 8: Parry Nissan Trackside on WIN News Class 2 Handicap – 1630 metres
1st – DODGE LARRY 2nd – CAROLINA’S BELLE 3rd – SCUTT 4th – APPELLANT

SCUTT (J. Long) began awkwardly.

In the straight SHOTGUN START (F. Edwards) was held up and unable to obtain clear running.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
