Race 1: Minty’s Morning on 102.3 4TO FM Maiden Handicap - 1200 metres
1st – OH MY LOVE 2nd – MOUNT MAGIC 3rd – PLATINUM EDITION 4th – GOOYAH

CHOIR BOY, which was having its first start since May 2007, was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

GOOYAH (P. Cullen) and MOUNT MAGIC (I. Toward) bumped on jumping.

Near the 500 metres GREAT HEIGHTS (B. Stewart) was steadied when crowded for room by PRUSSIAN PRIDE (A. Spinks), which shifted in slightly. Jockey Spinks was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

From the entrance to the home straight until near the 200 metres GREAT HEIGHTS (B.Stewart) had difficulty obtaining clear running.

Near the 100m, GREAT HEIGHTS (B. Stewart) shifted out making contact with PRUSSIAN PRIDE (A. Spinks).

When questioned about the performance of GREAT HEIGHTS, Jockey B. Stewart explained that after taking up a favourable position in the early stages, he endeavoured to improve at about the 500 metres but was crowded for room by PRUSSIAN PRIDE (A. Spinks). He said that in the early part of the straight he was held up and unable to obtain clear running until about the 200 metres and then finished the race off well. The explanations were noted.

A post-race veterinary examination of CARNASINGA (D. Green), which weakened noticeably in the home straight, did not reveal any abnormalities.

Race 2: Townsville Bulletin Class 1 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st - CHEQUIN 2nd - PICATEAM 3rd – HASTY DIAMOND 4th – MAKEM DAZZLE

Jockey I. Fry was fined $100 under A.R. 120(b) for accepting an engagement for DOMITILLA, for which he was to be overweight.

The start was delayed when CHEQUIN (A. Spinks) became fractious in the barriers and reared. The gelding was removed from the barriers, examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

UPTOWN BELLE (G. Cullen), GILDING THE LILY (T. Bannon) and CARBINCONI (C. Eaton) were slow to begin

In the early stages MAKEM DAZZLE (I. Toward) raced fiercely.

Jockey I. Toward was reprimanded under A.R. 137(a) in that near the 1000 metres he permitted MAKEM DAZZLE to shift in when not quite clear of HORBURY TERRACE (D. Green), which had to be steadied to avoid that horse’s heels.

Jockey I. Toward was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that at the 900 metres he made insufficient effort to prevent MAKEM DAZZLE from shifting in when insufficiently clear of UPTOWN BELLE (G. Cullen), which was checked to avoid the heels of MAKEM DAZZLE. Jockey Toward was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight tonight, 16th November 2009, up to and including Saturday, 28th November 2009, a period covered by 3 NQ meetings.

IL GABBIANO (L. Dillon) raced wide throughout.

Race 3: Queensland Racing QTIS 2-Y-O Handicap – 1000 metres

At the start, FANCIFUL (R. Wiggins) jumped in making contact with the hindquarters of WHITSUNDAY EXPRESS (D. Green). A short distance later FANCIFUL (R. Wiggins) shifted out and bumped MINANGEL (P. Cullen) out onto JUNE MARY (App A. Butler)

At the 600 metres FANCIFUL (R. Wiggins), which was racing greenly, shifted in despite the efforts of its rider and tightened the running of BECAUSE I CAN (I. Toward), which had to be checked to avoid the heels of FANCIFUL.

Near the 500 metres BECAUSE I CAN was again checked when FANCIFUL continued to race greenly, shifted in and tightened the running of BECAUSE I CAN. Trainer Mr K. Birse was advised that a warning had been placed on the racing manners of FANCIFUL.

In the home straight BONNIE GLEN (C. Eaton) raced greenly.

BONNIE GLEN (C. Eaton) and LITTLE SHEILA (T. Bannon) raced wide throughout.

A post race veterinary examination of BECAUSE I CAN failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

Race 4: AON Services Class 4 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – ROYAL FOOTE 2nd - LANGFURY 3rd - LITTLE ADMIRAL 4th – LIGHTNING MCQUEEN

LITTLE ADMIRAL (G. Cullen) and GENERAL MACARTHUR (J. Felix) were slow to begin.

Approaching and rounding the home turn FIERY DIAMOND (J. Stopps) laid out.

In the early part of the straight LITTLE ADMIRAL (G. Cullen) was held up and unable to obtain clear running when awkwardly placed close to the heels of BEAU REGIS (P. Cullen).

Jockey G. Cullen pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that near the 100 metres he permitted LITTLE ADMIRAL to shift in whilst being ridden along, when insufficiently clear of PHYSICS (S. Kaya), which was checked and lost its rightful running. Jockey Cullen was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on Saturday, 21st November 2009, up to and including midnight on Saturday, 6th December 2009, a period covered by 4 NQ meetings. Jockey S. Kaya was reminded of his obligations under A.R. 175(g) regarding the nature of his evidence during the inquiry.

BEAU REGIS (P. Cullen) and ELVIS AARON (D. Green) both raced wide throughout.

Race 5: Rudd’s Horse Transport Class 2 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st - KAMBOJA 2nd - APACHE PUP 3rd - RICOCHET MOUNTAIN 4th – WHISKY SISTER

After being placed in the barriers GENERAL WEILAND (A. Spinks) broke through and galloped a considerable distance. Acting on veterinary advice, stewards ordered the withdrawal of the gelding at 2.51 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on GENERAL WEILAND be refunded in full and that all successful bets made with bookmakers be paid less the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the tickets: win 9¢, place 10¢.

At the start WHISKY SISTER (C. Eaton) and APACHE PUP (B. Stewart) were tightened for room between BOSS COCKY (D.Andrews) and NOT MY PIC (P. Cullen), both of which shifted ground.

On jumping VALVETRON (L. Dillon) and BRAVE TESTIMONY (T. Bannon) bumped.

LEEZEE (D. Green) knuckled on jumping away.

Near the 700 metres APACHE PUP (B. Stewart) was steadied off the heels of VALVETRON (L. Dillon). For a short distance LEEZEE (D. Green), which was following, raced in restricted room to the inside of BRAVE TESTIMONY (T. Bannon).

Rounding the home turn PERSHINKO (C.Whiteley) was held up for clear running.

KAMBOJA (D. Missen) raced wide during the early stages of the event.

BOSS COCKY (D. Andrews) raced wide for the majority of the event.

When questioned about the riding of PERSHINKO, in particular in the early part of the home straight, Jockey C. Whiteley advised stewards that he had to steady PERSHINKO after being held up for clear running approaching the home turn. He added that when a run opened to the inside of NOT MY PIC (P. Cullen), despite his efforts PERSHINKO was reluctant to take that run and in his opinion the horse may have had impaired vision in its nearside eye. Following a post-race veterinary examination of PERSHINKO the Club’s veterinary surgeon recommended that the mare be examined by an ophthalmologist to determine the extent of the horse’s vision. Acting on this advice, stewards informed trainer Mr D. Hansen that PERSHINKO will not be permitted to race or trial until the results of the ophthalmic examination are furnished to stewards.

Race 6: Townsville Events Marquee & Party Hire Class 2 Handicap – 1630 metres
1st - GETHSEMANE 2nd – JUST HISS 3rd - LAMP 4th – MONT ALLEZ

The start was delayed when, at the request of Jockey C. Eaton, the Club’s veterinary surgeon carried out a pre-race examination of BLACK SEQUIN , which was cleared to start.

Near the 1400 metres MONT ALLEZ (C. Whiteley) raced up onto the heels of ROYAL COLOURS (F. Edwards) and had to be steadied. MONT ALLEZ then hung out for the remainder of the event.

IRISH MYTH (App A. Butler) was held up for clear running from near the 400m and until passing the 200m.

BREAKERS PATH (R. McMahon) raced wide rounding the home turn.

A post-race veterinary examination of BREAKERS PATH (R. McMahon) did not reveal any obvious abnormalities.

Following the race ENDANGERED (A. Spinks) was making an unusual respiratory noise. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any obvious abnormalities, however trainer Ms J. Ryan was advised that she must provide the results of an endoscopic examination before ENDANGERED will be permitted to race again.

After riding ROYAL COLOURS in this race Jockey F. Edwards became indisposed and was unable to fulfil his further engagements. Jockey Edwards was advised that he must provide a medical clearance prior to being permitted to ride again.

Race 7: Rosemount Estate Australia Class 6 Plate – 1200 metres
1st - LIGHTNING GLANCE 2nd - FIVE WAYS 3rd - SIENA’S PRIDE 4th - HUSS

Trainer Mr J. Doherty informed stewards that it was his intention to have SIENA’S PRIDE ridden off the pace and if possible to take up a position behind the leader. A public announcement was made to that effect.

At the start GLACIER (R. Wiggins), SUN YATSEN (T. Bannon), RAFFAEL NEDIYM (App. A. Butler) and FIVE WAYS (A. Spinks) were tightened for room between FLYING SONG (G. Cullen), which shifted out, and GENERAL SPARK (C. Whiteley), which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.

At about the 900 metres SIENA’S PRIDE (P. Cullen) raced in restricted room to the inside of RAFFAEL NEDIYM (App. A. Butler).

Approaching the 700 metres PUBZ BARON (B. Stewart) shifted out and made contact with SIENA’S PRIDE (P. Cullen), which became momentarily unbalanced.

At the 300 metres FLYING SONG (G. Cullen) was disappointed for a run to the inside of HUSS (R. McMahon), was steadied and shifted out to improve.

Near the 200 metres HUSS (R. McMahon) and DIAMOND PURSUIT (D. Green) made heavy contact when DIAMOND PURSUIT shifted in. A short distance later HUSS shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so made heavy contact with DIAMOND PURSUIT.

I. Toward the rider FRIGATE was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the finish of the race.
GENERAL SPARK (C. Whiteley) raced wide throughout the event.

STARRY DANCER (C. Whiteley) and SWAT (M. Usher) bumped on jumping.

KHATAAF (D. Simmons) was slow to begin.

Near the 900 metres BURGUNDY PRINCE (C. Eaton), which was racing ungenerously, shifted in despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in CHERRY GAZE (P. Cullen) having to be checked to avoid the heels of BURGUNDY PRINCE.

MIGHTY MITE (R. McMahon) and BURGUNDY PRINCE (C. Eaton) raced wide throughout.
