SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT: Townsville, 10th March 2011:
Race 4: www.townsvilleturfclub.com.au Class 4 Handicap – 1400 metres:
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer J. Casey for the late scratching of NO LIMITATION.
Race 1: www.townsvilleturfclub.com.au Maiden Handicap – 1200 metres:
1st – THE ASHES 2nd – SUPER WIT 3rd – YOUNG GUNZ 4th – WONDER WIZARD
In the early and middle stages YOUNG GUNZ (J. Stopps) over-raced, and near the 900 metres and again near the 800 metres had to be steadied off the heels of BENGUELA (F. Edwards).
On straightening, WONDER WIZARD (I. Toward) became awkward for a short distance when racing in restricted room between UNTRACEABLE (J. Felix) and UNLUCKYFORSUM (d. Missen). Upon returning to scale Jockey I. Toward reported that WONDER WIZARD felt sore. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the horse was lame in the off foreleg. Trainer F. Wieland will be advised that he must furnish a veterinary clearance prior to WONDER WIZARD being permitted to race again.
Near the 300 metres YOUNG GUNZ (J. Stopps) shifted out and bumped SUPER WIT (J. Bavarovich).
UNTRACEABLE (J. Felix) and WATERFORD GOLD (P. Cullen) raced wide throughout.
When questioned about the tactics adopted on UNLUCKYFORSUM, particularly rounding the home turn and in the home straight, Jockey D. Missen explained that he was instructed to have the gelding in a handy position, however when the pace slowed near the 800 metres he was obliged to shift away from the heels of SUPER WIT (J. Babarovich) and raced three wide thereafter. Jockey Missen stated that he placed UNLUCKYFORSUM under pressure leaving the 500 metres, when the tempo had increased, however the gelding was unable to quicken with the other runners and as a result he was unable to hold his position between SUPER WIT and HAILING (M. Elliott). Jockey Missen added that upon straightening, UNLUCKYFORSUM began to respond to his riding, however as the gelding was unable to quicken with the field at the 400 metres, it was placed in behind other runners and consequently was held up for clear running near the 300 metres. UNLUCKFORSUM then shifted in, in an endeavour to obtain clear running, but was held up on the heels of BENGUELA (F. Edwards). Jockey Missen agreed that a run presented itself to the inside of BENGUELA over the concluding stages when that horse shifted out, however he had already attempted to shift to the outside of BENGUELA prior to that horse shifting ground, and as a consequence UNLUCKYFORSUM was held up over the concluding stages. The explanation was noted.
Race 2: Bus & Coach Sales Australia Class 3 Plate – 1000 metres:
1st – IL CIBREO 2nd – PRONOUNCE 3rd – CHILLI BITE 4th – SAVAGE HEMLINE

Race 3: Happy Easter from the TTC QTIS 2-Y-O Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – SHEZA DRAGON 2nd – DANLOTTO 3rd – SET TO REIGN 4th – ZIP THE LIP
The start was initially delayed when HEART ON (T. Bannon) and ZIP THE LIP (J. Stopps) were difficult to load. Trainers A. Payne and E. Covell were advised that warnings had been placed on the barrier manners of both colts. The start was further delayed when DRAGON KEEPER (F. Edwards) was extremely difficult to load into the barriers. Trainer L. Reys was advised that DRAGON KEEPER will be obliged to obtain a further barrier certificate before being permitted to race again.
DIPLOMATIC STORM (P. Cullen) and ZIP THE LIP (J. Stopps) were slow to begin.
HEART ON (T. Bannon) began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped DIPLOMATIC STORM (P. Cullen).
Shortly after the start STROM THE RHYTHM (M. Elliott) made contact with ACES ‘N’ KINGS (J. Stanley), then attempted to buck for a short distance. Trainer B. Williams was advised that a warning will be placed on the racing manners of STROM THE RHYTHM.
In the middle stages HEART ON (T. Bannon) raced greenly.
DRAGON KEEPER (F. Edwards) raced wide throughout.
Race 4: Queensland Bus Industry Council Open Handicap – 1000 metres:
1st – VOODOO BROWN MAGIC 2nd – BEURRE 3rd – PEOPLE’S CHOICE 4th – LOOK AT THE ROSE
RUN FOR OFFICE (J. Stanley) was slow to begin.
When questioned about the performance of RUN FOR OFFICE, Jockey J. Stanley stated that the gelding was slow to muster speed in the early stages and failed to respond to his riding at any stage of the event. Jockey Stanley advised that the horse felt awkward in its action. A post-race veterinary examination of RUN FOR OFFICE revealed that the gelding was suffering from possible muscle strain in its hindquarters. Trainer R. Henderson will be advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance prior to RUN FOR OFFICE being permitted to race again.
LOOK AT THE ROSE (P. Cullen) lost both front shoes in running.
Stewards opened an inquiry into the tactics adopted on SLEEK MACHINE (I. Toward). After taking evidence from Jockey Toward and trainer E. Covell, stewards adjourned the inquiry to a date and time to be fixed.
Race 5: Fishing & Oudoor Expo 28 @ 29 May Class 5 Handicap – 1630 metres
1st – DAMASHQUI 2nd – VOODOO BAY MAGIC 3rd – DAAD’S BOY 4th – BODY DOUBLE
In the early stages PRINCE OF SNIPPERS (P. Cullen) over-raced.
Leaving the 300 metres DAMASHQUI (M. Elliott) was held up for a short distance on the heels of PRINCE OF SNIPPERS (P. Cullen). DAMASHQUI then shifted out to obtain clear running to the outside of PRINCE OF SNIPPERS, and on several occasions made contact with DAAD’S BOY (J. Stanley), which shifted in.
GETHSEMANE (F. Edwards) raced wide throughout.
Upon returning to scale Jockey J. Stanley reported that over the concluding stages his hand became entangled in the mane of DAAD’S BOY, placing him at a disadvantage in riding his mount out.
Race 6: Become a TTC 100 Club Member Class 1 Handicap – 1630 metres
1st – MISTAKEN BID 2nd – BIG BOORI 3rd – TAIMATU 4th – FORZA POTENZA
NABISON (J. Babarovich) was slow to begin.
When the pace eased near the 1200 metres WASHINGTON (T. Bannon) began to over-race. FORZA POTENZA (P. Cullen), which was following, improved onto the heels of WASHINGTON and had to be steadied. WASHINGTON then raced fiercely for a considerable distance. Trainer J. Russell advised stewards that she will remove the blinkers from the horse’s gear and will also experiment with other racing gear in an attempt to have WASHINGTON settle in its races. Nevertheless, Ms Russell was advised that a warning will be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.
Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight FORZA POTENZA (P. Cullen) was held up for clear running.
Near the 200 metres MON CHOIX (J. Felix) shifted in under pressure.
NO WONDER (J. Stopps) raced wide throughout.
Race 7: XXXX Gold Class 2 Handicap – 1300 metres
1st – PACIFIC HIGHWAY 2nd – CLIPSAL 3rd – NYMPHETTE 4th – HASTY DIAMOND
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey F. Edwards, the rider of NYMPHETTE which finished third, to view the judge’s photo finish for second placing. After viewing the film Jockey Edwards was satisfied with the judge’s placings and stewards declared correct weight.
REQUEST LA FAME (J. Babarovich) began awkwardly.
In the middle stages NYMPHETTE (F. Edwards) over-raced.
Near the 250 metres VIGORLIC (M. Elliott) had to be eased when REQUEST LA FAME (J. Babarovich) shifted in. An inquiry into the incident was adjourned to a time and date to be fixed.
ARREBATO (A. Merritt) raced wide throughout.
When asked about the performance of MOB RULE, Jockey J. Stanley explained that he had been instructed to lead, if possible. Jockey Stanley stated that the gelding began fairly but showed no early pace, despite his efforts to ride the horse along. Jockey Stanley added that instead of being caught four deep he elected to ease MOB RULE to take up a midfield position. However, HASTY DIAMOND (T. Bannon) improved to his inside and, as horses crossed forward of him, he was shuffled back to a rearward position. Jockey Stanley stated further that MOB RULE then travelled well in the middle stages and improved when asked for an effort in the early part of the straight, however weakened over the concluding stages. Trainer E. Sewell will be interviewed as to the performance of MOB RULE. A post-race veterinary examination of MOB RULE (J. Stanley) did not reveal any abnormalities.
