SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT: Townsville, 4th June 2011

Race 6: Nissan Navara Class 3 Handicap – 1300 metres

Apprentice C. Priest pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R.137(a) in that near the 900 metres she permitted EUGE to shift in when insufficiently clear of BOOTIFULITTLESING (G. Cullen). As a consequence BOOTIFULITTLESING was tightened for room between EUGE and RATTUS CONATUS (I. Toward), had to be checked and lost ground. MAKE MERRY (S. Kaya), which was following, clipped the heels of BOOTIFULITTLESING, blundered and lost ground and BLACK SEQUIN (G. Kliese) and RIM OF FIRE (J. Babarovich) were inconvenienced. Apprentice Priest was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight on Thursday 23rd June 2011 up to and including midnight on Friday 1st July 2011.

GENERAL:

Trainer S. Kendrick was reprimanded for the late declaration of T. Bannon as the rider of RELECTION OF JADE (Race 3) and C. Whiteley as the rider of COCKAINE and T. Bannon as the rider of PROM KNIGHT (Race 6). In determining penalty stewards took into account mitigating circumstances.

Trainer J. Robbins pleaded guilty to two charges, the first under A.R.87 in that on 7th June 2011, as a licensed trainer he was observed on to be riding a thoroughbred racehorse when not wearing a properly affixed helmet; the second under A.R.87B(1) in that on 7th June 2011 he was observed riding a thoroughbred racehorse when not wearing a properly fastened safety vest. Mr Robbins was fined $200 on each charge.

Race 1: Ladies Race Day on Sale Now Maiden Handicap – 1200 metres:
1st – COCO LOCO 2nd – HAYDEE 3rd – POWER PERSONIFIED 4th – SHE KEEPS ME BUSY

Trainer J. O’Dea was fined $100 under L.R. 70(1) for failing to declare J. Stanley as the rider of SHE’S FIRED UP by the prescribed time.

After being placed in the barriers PRINCE CARNEGIE (F. Edwards) reared and dislodged its rider.

PREVARICATION (App. A. Butler), SHE KEEPS ME BUSY (D. Tanti) and BENNY AND THEJET (A. Coome) were slow to begin.

PRINCE CARNEGIE (F. Edwards) knuckled on jumping.

Leaving the 1000 metres BENNY AND THE JET (A. Coome) and PRINCE CARNEGIE (F. Edwards) were inconvenienced when racing in restricted room to the inside of THE CADDIE (P. Cullen). Jockey P. Cullen was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

For a short distance approaching the 800 metres SHE KEEPS ME BUSY (D. Tanti) over-raced.

Leaving the 200 metres SHE KEEPS ME BUSY (D. Tanti) shifted out to obtain clear running and inconvenienced SHE’S FIRED UP (J. Stanley).

NOTABLE (J. Felix) and CRIMEA (J. Babarovich) raced wide throughout.

Race 2: www.townsvilleturfclub.com.au Class 2 Handicap – 1200 metres:
1st – RATTUS CONATUS 2nd – MR BULISTA 3rd – SO PRICELESS 4th – NYMPHETTE

NYMPHETTE (F. Edwards) knuckled on jumping.

At the start TRIPLE DOWN (A. Merritt) was tightened for room between BOOTIFULITTLESING (J. Felix) and MR BULISTA (J. Babarovich), which shifted in.

Near the 250 metres POR FAVOR (App. A. Butler) was inconvenienced by MR BULISTA (J. Babarovich), which shifted out. Jockey J. Babarovich was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care.

When questioned as to the disappointing performance of CATCHER TORY, Jockey J. Stanley stated that he had been instructed to take up a position just off the pace, however after beginning well, despite his urgings CATCHER TORY was unable to hold its position when crossed by MR BULISTA (J. Babarovich) and as a consequence settled further back in the field than anticipated. Jockey Stanley added that from the 900 metres the mare was under pressure and proved to be very disappointing. Trainer G. Dickson advised that in his opinion CATCHER TORY had felt the effects of recent racing and would be better suited when lightly raced. Mr Dickson indicated that he would advise connections to freshen up the mare before it races again, and he undertook to inform stewards should anything be amiss with CATCHER TORY in the days following the event. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare did not reveal any abnormalities.

A post-race veterinary examination of KESHI (D. Crossland) did not reveal any abnormalities.

Race 3: Arnell Industries QTIS 3-Y-O Handicap – 1200 metres:
1st – BOLT FROM THE BLUE 2nd – FELINE IRISH 3rd – CARVELON 4th – TAIMEX

Jockey J. Babarovich reported that HUNNICUTT reared as the start was effected and lost ground.

MELAKAI (A. Merritt) began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped BEAR IN THERE (J. Felix).

In the early and middle stages BARBIZON (App. A. Butler) raced wide.

Near the 900 metres FELINE IRISH (J. Stanley) shifted in when not quite clear of MELAKAI (A. Merritt), which had to be steadied away from the heels of FELINE IRISH. As a result MELAKAI shifted out and tightened the running of REFLECTION OF JADE (T. Bannon). Jockey J. Stanley was advised to exercise more care and ensure that he is sufficiently clear before shifting ground.

In the middle stages MELAKAI (A. Merritt) raced ungenerously, became unbalanced and as a result near the 600 metres shifted out and bumped WAR LION (P. Cullen).

Jockey F. Edwards was reprimanded under A.R. 137(b) for failing to ride GABY WE LOVE right to the finish.

When questioned as to the performance of ROCKET ON BY, Jockey C. Whiteley stated that he had been instructed to take up a forward position, however upon jumping ROCKET ON BY had a tendency to shy in and away from CARVELON (App. C. Pye). As a consequence, ROCKET ON BY was unable to muster sufficient early speed to take up a forward position. Jockey Whiteley added that he was satisfied to have ROCKET ON BY positioned midfield in the middle stages of the event, however when he attempted to improve his position leaving the 500 metres in order to keep FELINE IRISH (J. Stanley) racing to his inside, ROCKET ON BY had a tendency to shy away from that runner, which allowed FELINE IRISH to improve to his inside. Jockey Whiteley was of the view that ROCKET ON BY was not concentrating in its recent races and accordingly he had advised connections to remove the blinkers from the horse’s gear. Trainer J. Manzelmann will be interviewed regarding the performance of ROCKET ON BY.

Race 4: DCM Electrical Class 4 Handicap – 1400 metres:
1st – SEA MARVISTA 2nd – RIM OF FIRE 3rd – COUNTERIZE 4th – LIGHTNING GLANCE

On jumping ONWARDS’N’UPWARDS (J. Stanley) and RIM OF FIRE (J. Babarovich) were tightened for room between COUNTERIZE (M. Elliott) and VELOUTE (G. Kliese)

In the early stages COUNTERIZE (M. Elliott) over-raced and near the 1000 metres had to be steadied from the heels of SEA MARVISTA (D. Tanti).

In the middle stages RIM OF FIRE (J. Babarovich) over-raced.

When questioned as to the performance of SAVSENGA, Jockey F. Edwards advised that he had been instructed to take up a forward position, however after beginning only fairly he was obliged to urge the mare forward in the early stages, in accordance with his instructions. Jockey Edwards stated that as a consequence SAVSENGA raced fiercely in the early and middle stages and as a consequence compounded badly in the home straight.

Race 5: SKY Racing Class 1 Handicap – 1400 metres:
1st – KASA GOLD 2nd – BIG BOORI 3rd – VANTABULOUS 4th – JOYFUL LADY

At the start MICHELET (J. Stopps), IN A JAM (A. Merritt), WINDWALKER (C.Whiteley), VANTABULOUS (I. Toward), DANE PEGGY (F. Edwards), JOYFUL LADY (J. Felix) and GRAND ASSASSIN (S. Kaya) were all tightened for room between TEVIOT WISH (D. Tanti), which shifted in, and KASA GOLD (P. Cullen), which shifted out. As a result of the incident IN A JAM had to be eased and lost ground, and MICHELET was inconvenienced.

Jockey J. Babarovich reported that CREDIT SQUEEZE hung out from the 600 metres.

Jockey P. Cullen pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that near the 700 metres he permitted KASA GOLD to shift in when insufficiently clear of THEASHES (M. Elliott), which was taken in onto MUKADDAMAH SON (D. Crossland), which in turn was taken in onto SO DOTTI (J. Stanley). In the incident Jockey D. Crossland had to check MUKADDAMAH SON and Jockey Stanley had to check severely, and IN A JAM (A. Merritt) was inconvenienced and had to shift out to avoid the heels of SO DOTTI. Jockey Cullen was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 3 meetings, to commence at midnight on 14th June 2011, up to and including midnight on Saturday 25th June 2011.

DANE PEGGY (F. Edwards), MICHELET (J. Stopps), JOYFUL LADY (J. Felix) and VANTABULOUS (I. Toward) raced wide throughout.

Jockey P. Cullen will be interviewed regarding his use of the whip on KASA GOLD over the concluding stages.

Race 6: Suncorp Bank North Queensland Cup Open Handicap – 1630 metres
1st – OLD MATES ACT 2nd – PROM KNIGHT 3rd – CASH ATTACK 4th – MASTER HUGH

When Apprentice S. Arnold failed to arrive on course by the prescribed time and no other apprentice rider was available, Jockey D. Tanti was substituted as the rider of OLD MATES ACT. Apprentice Arnold will be interviewed at a time and date to be fixed.

The start was substantially delayed when DANARDOS (A. Merritt) cast its off fore plate when being loaded into the barriers and had to be replated.

PROM KNIGHT (T. Bannon) and MATIYA’S PRIDE (App. A. Butler) were slow to begin.

In the early and middle stages SCUDERIA (J. Stopps) over-raced.

Jockey F. Edwards was reprimanded for allowing FRISCO BOPPER to shift in near the 1200 metres when not quite clear of CASH ATTACK (P. Cullen), which had to be steadied to avoid the heels of FRISCO BOPPER and shifted out.

Rounding the home turn CASH ATTACK (P. Cullen) raced wide.

In the early part of the straight PROM KNIGHT (T. Bannon) was forced to race in restricted room between MIGHTY MITE (I. Toward) and CASH ATTACK (P. Cullen).

FORZA POTENZA (M. Elliott) and PROM KNIGHT (T. Bannon) raced wide throughout.

Jockey P. Cullen will be interviewed regarding his riding of CASH ATTACK over the concluding stages.

Jockey F. Edwards was fined $100 under A.R. 145 for returning to scale more than half a kilogram above his declared weight.

Race 7: Plant Hill Produce Open Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – CHEVAL ARGENTE 2nd – BLACK MORGAN 3rd – MONTGRESIN 4th –

MONTGRESIN (C. Whiteley) began awkwardly.

Near the 150 metres and again over the concluding stages ANDAMON (F. Edwards) was held up and unable to obtain clear running.

An inquiry into the tactics adopted by Jockey C. Whiteley as the rider of MONTGRESIN was adjourned to a time and date to be fixed.

ALL WINNERS were sent to be swabbed.
