SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT: SATURDAY, 16TH JULY 2011:

Race 7: Townsville Vet Clinic Guineas QTIS 3-Y-O Handicap 1630 metres

Trainer R. Wrigley reported that SUNTIME pulled up sore in the wither following the race and will be sent for an immediate spell.

LATE RIDING CHANGES:

When Jockey D. Crossland was unavailable due to illness, substitutions were made as per the Stewards Raceday Summary. Jockey Crossland was advised that he must furnish a medical clearance prior to being permitted to ride again.

Race 1: Jam Corner After the Last Class 3 Plate - 1000 metres
1st – VIA REAL 2nd - LYNDI’S GIFT 3rd – MR BULISTA 4th – SPANISH SUN

GELATO (J. Babarovich) and SPANISH SUN (P. Cullen) were slow to begin.

MR BULISTA (D. Missen) was held up and unable to obtain clear running from leaving the 550 metres until the 350 metres, where the gelding had to be steadied from the heels of THUNDER HILL (A. Coome).

KLOOM (C. Whiteley) raced wide throughout.

When questioned as to the performance of THUNDER HILL, Jockey A. Coome stated that he settled the mare in a handy position, as instructed, however when placed under pressure rounding the home turn THUNDER HILL failed to respond to his riding. However, Jockey Coome was of the opinion that the mare would benefit from its first run following a lengthy spell. Trainer Mrs J. Ryan said that the mare had felt the effects of its first start in more than 11 months and agreed that THUNDER HILL would take benefit from today’s race. The comments were noted. A post-race veterinary examination of THUNDER HILL did not reveal any abnormalities.

When questioned as to the performance of DANZIG DANCER, Jockey I. Toward stated that the filly led, in accordance with his instructions, however when placed under pressure upon straightening failed to respond to his riding and again proved most disappointing. Trainer G. Wehlow advised stewards that he was at a loss to explain the performance of DANZIG DANCER and added that he will confer with connections and give consideration to spelling the gelding.

Race 2: Cup Calcutta Thursday @ 6P.M. Class 2 Handicap , 1200 Metres
1st – MANHATTAN SKYLINE 2nd - HASTY DIAMOND 3rd – MONEGASQUE 4th – BARBIZON

For a short distance soon after the start BARAMUL BULLET (D. Simmons) raced ungenerously.

In the early and middle stages DRAGONS BLETCH (C. Whiteley) over-raced.

In the early part of the home straight KAMLOOP MAGIC (J. Felix) was held up and unable to obtain clear running.

Over the concluding stages BARAMUL BULLET (D. Simmons) was held up and unable to obtain clear running, placing Jockey D. Simmons at a disadvantage in riding the gelding out to the finish.

Apprentice C. Pye, the rider of HASTY DIAMOND, reported that she dropped her whip leaving the 100 metres.

DOMITILLA (M. Elliott) raced wide throughout.

When questioned as to the tactics adopted on YEAH MATE, particularly in the early stages, Jockey I. Toward stated that he was instructed to have the gelding take up a handy position, however he was unable to muster the necessary speed in the early stages and as a result he elected to take up a position one off the running rail, outside DRAGON’S BLETCH (C. Whiteley). Jockey Toward said that YEAH MATE had a tendency to overrace in the middle stages and upon straightening failed to respond to his riding. Trainer Mrs J. Ryan advised that her instructions were to have the gelding take up a handy position. Mrs Ryan expressed her disappointment in the horse’s failure to finish off the race as expected. The comments were noted. A post-race veterinary examination of YEAH MATE did not reveal any abnormalities.

A post-race veterinary examination of MONEGASQUE revealed that the gelding has mild pain on flexion of the near front fetlock. Trainer D. Finter was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance for MONEGASQUE before the helding will be permitted to race again.

Race 3: SKY Racing QRIS 3-Y-O Maiden Handicap - 1200 metres
1st – FELINE IRISH 2nd – BEAR IN THERE 3rd – DANE WILL DO 4th – JANAMAZ

BENNY THE JET (I. Toward) was slow to begin.

LITTLE ERNIE (M. Elliott) blundered on jumping.

In the early and middle stages FELINE IRISH (G. Kliese) and QUINNOX (A. Merritt) raced wide.

Near the 200 metres SOLE SURVIVOR (D. Simmons) shifted out under pressure and bumped DELLY’S JET (App. C. Pye).

SOLE SURVIVOR (D. Simmons) and DELLY’S JET (App. C. Pye) raced wide throughout.

Race 4: Breakfast with the Stars Wednesday @ 6 A.M. Maiden Handicap – 1300 metres
1st – DIVINE LUCK 2nd – SHEISAMADOOZY 3rd – HAYDEE 4th – OCTA DUCK

F. Edwards was reprimanded for accepting dual engagements for NOTABLE and PYRAMID GOLD. In assessing penalty stewards were mindful of the mitigating circumstances.

The start was delayed so that the ring bit on LEGLESIA (P. Cullen) could be adjusted.

DANCE RUBIE DANCE (J. Babarovich) was slow to begin.

MR DOOR (App. C. Pye) began awkwardly.

Shortly after the start NOTABLE (F. Edwards) was tightened for room between SHEISAMADOOZY (D. Simmons), which shifted in, and MR DOOR (App. C. Pye), which shifted out.

HIDDEN GLORY (A. Merritt) began awkwardly and bumped SHEISAMADOOZY (D. Simmons).

In the early stages LEGLESIA (P. Cullen) raced wide.

Upon straightening for home DIVINE LUCK (D. Missen) was unable to obtain clear running for a short distance and near the 300 metres shifted in slightly and bumped MR DOOR (App. C. Pye), which was racing greenly, causing MR DOOR to shift in suddenly.

In the home straight LEGLESIA (P. Cullen) had a tendency to lay in under pressure.

HIDDEN GLORY (A. Merritt) raced wide throughout.

On returning to scale App. C. Pye reported that MR DOOR raced greenly throughout, placing her at a disadvantage in riding the gelding out in the home straight.


Race 5: Cup Day This Saturday Class 4 Handicap - 1300 metres
1st – SCHRAPNEL GULLY 2nd – JUST LUST 3rd – KEY RESULT 4th – TITLE KING

After being placed in the barriers FEEL GOOD FRED (J. Stopps) broke through, was immediately restrained, examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field.

At the start NORTHERN DUST (D. Simmons) shifted out taking TITLE KING (I. Toward) out onto SCHRAPNEL GULLY (A. Coome).

Approaching the 900 metres FEEL GOOD FRED (J. Stopps) commenced to over-race and had to be steadied from the heels of SCHRAPNEL GULLY (A. Coome). FEEL GOOD FRED then continued to over-race for some distance thereafter.

Rounding the home turn JUST LUST (J. Felix) hung out.

Upon straightening RUNNING REIGN (J. Babarovich) was held up and unable to obtain clear running.

In the home straight RED AURUM (C. Whiteley), which raced wide throughout, had a tendency to lay in.

A post-race veterinary examination of FEEL GOOD FRED revealed a bloody discharge in the gelding’s near side nostril which was found to be the result of external trauma when FEEL GOOD FRED broke through the barriers prior to the start.

A post-race veterinary examination of RUNNING REIGN revealed the gelding to have ruptured a near fore suspensory ligament. Trainer M. Young will be advised that a veterinary clearance will be required before RUNNING REIGN will be permitted to start again.

Race 6: Book Now for Cup Day Class 1 Handicap – 1630 metres
1st – BEAUX STRATA 2nd – MUKADDAMAH SON 3rd – STRUCKBYLIGHTNING 4th – JOY’S SPIRIT

CHRONIC (J. Felix) was slow to begin.

Rounding the home turn DAMN GOOD IDEA (App. C. Pye) raced extremely wide. Following the race Apprentice Pye reported that near the 800 metres the saddle on DAMN GOOD IDEA shifted, placing her at a disadvantage in riding her mount out to the finish.

Leaving the 400 metres STRUCKBYLIGHTNING (I. Toward) shifted out to avoid the heels of MUKADDAMAH SON (App. C. Pye) and in doing so took WINKWALKER (J. Stopps) out onto ULTIMATE DESIGN (J. Babarovich), which in turn was taken out onto FORZA POTENZA (D. Tanti). Jockey I. Toward was advised to exercise more care.

WINDWALKER (J. Stopps), ULTIMATE DESIGN (J. Babarovich) and STRUCKBYLIGHTNING (I. Toward) raced wide throughout.

Jockey M. Elliott reported that in his opinion MAJOR ROCKETMAN failed to handle the step in distance from 1200 metres to 1630 metres.

Race 7: Millie J & Co Class 6 Plate - 1630 metres
1st – RUSTY HUNTER 2nd – I GOT ONE 3rd – MAD MUSIC 4th – ANOTHER NIP

Trainer D. Hansen was fined $100 under L.R. 70(1) for failing to notify Jockey D. Missen as the rider for BEAUTIFUL DAY by the prescribed time.

IMAHERE (A. Merritt) was slow to begin.

In the early and middle stages PRINCE OF SNIPPERS (G. Kliese) raced wide.

In the early and middle stages RIM OF FIRE (J. Babarovich) over-raced.

Upon returning to scale Jockey C. Whiteley reported that I GOT ONE hung in down the home straight, preventing him from riding the gelding out right to the finish.
