SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

Townsville Saturday 17th July 2010: Race 6, Café Bambini Bracelet Fillies and Mares Class Handicap 1300 metres

Stewards today reconvened an inquiry into the reasons surrounding a fall suffered by PIZZICATO, dislodging Jockey A. Pattillo, who was then transported to hospital for precautionary examination. Further evidence was taken from Jockey M. Elliott and Jockey D. Crossland, and initial evidence was taken from Jockey A. Pattillo. It was established that upon jumping, CONFIDENT WOMAN (M. Heagney) shifted out and bumped NOBLEPRICE (D. Crossland), which was taken out onto PIZZICATO. At the same time CELEBRATES (M. Elliott) shifted in, causing PIZZICATO to be tightened for room, clip the heels of CELEBRATES and fall. Taking into account the position of the incident, shortly after the start, the initial shift from CONFIDENT WOMAN and the shift from CLEBRATES, stewards could not be satisfied that any one rider was culpable. Nevertheless, Jockey Elliott was advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to take more care of his fellow riders.

Townsville Saturday 16TH JULY 2011:

Race 7: Townsville Vet Clinic Guineas QTIS 3-Y-O Handicap 1630 metres

Trainer R. Wrigley advised that immediately after the race the initial plan had been to spell SUNTIME, however after conferring with connections and in light of how the gelding had recovered in the days subsequent to the event, it had been decided that connections will continue with the gelding’s preparation.

Trainer R. Chillemi advised that BALUSTRADE had pulled up fine in the days subsequent to the event. Mr Chillemi confirmed his initial opinion for the gelding’s disappointing performance in that it was forced to race further back in the field than anticipated which combined with the heavy weight prevented BALUSTRADE from finishing off the race as expected.

------------

GENERAL:

Trainer L. Cullen was fined $200 under A.R.178(f) for failing to maintain a Record of Treatment book.

Trainer L. Cullen was fined $100 under L.R.44 for failing to produce a letter of authority when absent from the Townsville meeting on Saturday, 16th July 2011.

Race 1: Townsville Events Class 1 Handicap - 1000 metres
1st – GREEN LANTERN 2nd - MELAINA ROSE 3rd – DESTINY EXPRESS 4th – HIDDEN RUN

The start was delayed when SAVARANA (App. P. Keane) reared then got down in the barriers. The colt was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and, acting on his advice, stewards ordered the withdrawal of SAVARANA at 12.42 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on SAVARANA be refunded in full and that all successful bets made with bookmakers prior to the withdrawal of SAVARANA be paid less the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of tickets: win 10¢, place 10¢. Trainer J. Morris was advised that SAVARANA must trial to the satisfaction of the stewards before being permitted to race again.

MASTER REMLAP (D. Tanti) began awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with DESERTSUNPRINCESS (J. Stopps). Shortly thereafter, MASTER REMLAP was tightened for room between DESERTSUNPRINCESS and HUNNICUTT (J. Babarovich), which shifted in.

GREEN LANTERN (A. Spinks) was slow to begin.

Near the 500 metres CRAIGLEA MUSTANG (K. Wharton) had to be eased when tightened for room between MELAINA ROSE (App. C. Pye) and HUNNICUTT (J. Babarovich), which shifted out when paced awkwardly at the heels of CRAFTY TRICK (M. Elliott) which was inclined to hang out at that point of the race.

Near the 200 metres GREEN LANTERN (A. Spinks) shifted out, taking MY CAVAN GIRL (A. Merritt), which was racing greenly at that point, out onto DESTINY EXPRESS (T. Bannon), which became unbalanced for a short distance. Jockey Spinks was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care.

Between the 200 metres and the 100 metres GENAPERU (M. Cullen) was forced to race in restricted room when attempting a narrow run between HIDDEN RUN (I. Toward) and HUNNICUTT (J. Babarovich).

MY CAVAN GIRL (A. Merritt), DISCOVER THE GOLD (J. Felix), SMUTTY JOHNS (D. Andrews), PERFECT HOLIDAY (D. Simmons) and YUKON MYSTERY (C. Whiteley) raced wide throughout.

Upon returning to scale Jockey M. Elliott reported that CRAFTY TRICK hung out for the majority of the event.

When questioned as to the performance of CRAIGLEA MUSTANG, Jockey K. Wharton stated that after receiving interference leaving the 500 metres the gelding was reluctant to improve into the race from that point onwards and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of CRAIGLEA MUSTANG did not reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 2: Escape Travel/Virgin Australia QTIS 2-Y-O Handicap , 1200 Metres
1st – CRAIGLEA COBRA 2nd - GLOUCESTER STORM 3rd – SET TO REIGN 4th – TAT ZEPHYR

DELAGO DECOY (J. Stanley) was slow to begin.

When the start was affected TAT ZEPHYR (App. P. Keane) stood flat-footed and lost considerable ground. Trainer R. Chillemi was advised that a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of TAT ZEPHYR.

Shortly after the start CRAIGLEA COBRA (K. Wharton) was tightened for room between ROCK MISS (A. Coome) and TSUIMAI WARRIOR (J. Felix), both of which shifted ground.

Jockey J. Felix reported that TSUIMAI WARRIOR hung out from the 1000 metres. As a consequence of the racing manners of TSUIMAI WARRIOR, on several occasions near the 600 metres the gelding made contact with ROCK MISS (A. Coome), which had to be eased when tightened for room between TSUIMAI WARRIOR and KELLDEANO (J. Babarovich). A post-race veterinary examination of TSUIMAI WARRIOR revealed that the gelding had a small laceration to the off fore cannon.

Approaching the 300 metres TAT ZEPHYR (App. P. Keane), which was racing ungenerously, shifted in and bumped ROCK MISS (A. Coome), which was inconvenienced.

Jockey J. Babarovich reported that KELLDEANO had a tendency to hang in for the majority of the home straight, placing him at a disadvantage. Jockey Babarovich commented that the horse may have resented the addition of a tongue tie to its gear and Trainer R. Long confirmed that the tongue tie would be removed for the gelding’s next start.

Race 3: McDonald’s Townsville Up & Coming Stayers Class 4 Handicap - 2100 metres
1st – PREACHER MAN 2nd – SUPREME QUALITY 3rd – POPNAE 4th – MISTABLISTA

At the start BIG BOORI (A. Merritt) was tightened for room between MISTABLISTA (D. Crossland) and MUKADDAMAH SON (D. Tanti), which shifted in.

Shortly after the start PREACHER MAN (D. Simmons) was tightened for room between UNPAID (App. C. Pye) and MUKADDAMAH SON (D. Tanti), which was taken out by SUPER WIT (J. Babarovich).

In the early and middle stages UNPAID (App. C. Pye) and STRICTLY A DANGER (W. D’Avila) over-raced.

Passing the winning post on the first occasion the saddle on MY NAME IS EARL (M. Elliott) shifted forward, placing Jockey Elliott at a disadvantage and forcing MY NAME IS EARL to race wide in the middle stages.

Near the 1200 metres UNPAID (App. C. Pye) improved onto the heels of STRICTLY A DANGER (W. D’Avila), was steadied and raced ungenerously for a short distance.

Rounding the home turn UNPAID (App. C. Pye) and ROYAL CAUSEWAY (A. Pattillo) were held up for clear running.

Jockey A. Pattillo was afforded the opportunity to explain his riding of ROYAL CAUSEWAY rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight. Jockey Pattillo stated that he was initially held up rounding the home turn and was reluctant to fully test ROYAL CAUSEWAY until he was able to obtain clear running. Jockey Pattillo advised that trainer R. Chillemi had instructed him that ROYAL CAUSEWAY races best when afforded a short final sprint. Jockey Pattillo was therefore happy to allow ROYAL CAUSEWAY to improve its position in the early part of the home straight without fully testing the gelding until a point near the 200m where he was afforded uninterrupted running at which point he was able to fully test ROYAL CAUSEWAY and the gelding finished the race off well. The explanation was noted.

When questioned as to the tactics adopted on FORZA POTENZA, particularly why the gelding raced in a forward position today, Jockey J. Stanley advised that he was instructed to have the gelding settle in a midfield position. Jockey Stanley said that due to the slow pace in the early stages, FORZA POTENZA was able to obtain a forward position without any pressure. Jockey Stanley further noted that because of the slow pace FORZA POTENZA then began to over-race in the middle stages and therefore he allowed the gelding to stride forward of its own accord. Trainer A. Molino confirmed the instructions provided to Jockey Stanley. Stewards reminded Mr Molino of his obligation to advise stewards of any proposed change of tactics.

When questioned as to the tactics adopted on MISTABLISTA, which also raced in a more forward position, jockey D. Crossland stated that he was instructed to pressure the gelding in the early stages in an attempt to obtain a position close to the running rail. Jockey Crossland advised that he was forced to improve further forward than originally anticipated in the early stages of the event so as to obtain cover. Jockey Crossland added that MISTABLISTA was not suited by the slow pace in the early and middle stages. Jockey Crossland was also of the view that MISTABLISTA, which was having its first start over 2100 metres, failed to see out the distance of the event. The explanation was noted.

Following the running of this race Jockey A. Pattillo was examined by the ambulance officers and, acting on their advice, was stood down from his further engagements.

Race 4: Michele Hyde of Remax Excellence Class 3 Plate – 1400 metres
1st – GRAND SILENCE 2nd – EIGHT PIECES 3rd – VANTABULOUS 4th – COUNTERIZE

Prior to the declaration of correct weight Jockey D. Missen, the rider of EIGHT PIECES, requested to view the official photo finish. Jockey Missen was subsequently satisfied with the judge’s placings and correct weight was declared.

THEASHES (D. Simmons) was slow to begin.

COCKERELLI (D. Tanti) was a little slow to begin.

At the start TAIMATU (S. Kaya) was tightened for room between SIMPLE TASK (F. Edwards) and COUNTERIZE (D. Crossland).

Leaving the 600 metres EIGHT PIECES (D. Missen) began to hang out and as a consequence, when racing in restricted room between VANTABULOUS (I. Toward) and BIG JAY BE (A. Spinks), became unbalanced and lost ground.

Jockey D. Crossland pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that leaving the 300 metres, as the rider of COUNTERIZE, he attempted a run to the inside of THE HAWKER (W. D’Avila) where there was insufficient room. As a consequence FLINTLOCK (P. Cullen) was tightened for room, had to be checked and lost ground. Shortly thereafter, when attempting to relieve the pressure from FLINTLOCK, COUNTERIZE clipped the heels of THE HAWKER and blundered. Jockey Crossland was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight tonight, 23rd July 2011, up to and including midnight on Saturday 30th July 2011, a period covering 2 North Queensland meetings.

VANTABULOUS (I. Toward), SIMPLE TASK (F. Edwards) and MANIERE D’ETRE (J. Babarovich) raced wide throughout.

Race 5: Wilson Ryan Grose Lawyers Class 6 Handicap - 1000 metres
1st – LOUQUALO 2nd – JAD/CANYON ROAD (DH) – 4th – CRYSTAL TIGER

The declaration of correct weight was delayed while connections of CANYON ROAD and JAD, which were judged to have dead-heated for second place, viewed the official photo finish print. After doing so they were satisfied with the judge’s placings and correct weight was declared.

ORIENTELLE (D. Tanti) and LOUQUALO (D. Crossland) were slow to begin.

CANYON ROAD (J. Stopps) reared on jumping.

Near the 600 metres PEOPLE’S CHOICE (M. Elliott) was steadied when racing in restricted room to the inside of JAD (A. Coome), which was taken in by CONTESTED BID (G. Kliese), which had a tendency to shy in and away from CRYSTAL TIGER (D. Ballard), which was initially dictated inwards by GURU (App. C. Pye). Jockey G. Kliese was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances so as to allow sufficient racing room to runners on his inside and Apprentice C. Pye was reprimanded for allowing her mount to shift in when sufficiently clear of CRYSTAL TIGER.

Over the concluding stages JAD (A. Coome) had a tendency to lay in under pressure, and near the 100 metres was eased to avoid the heels of LOUQUALO (D. Crossland).

CONTESTED BID shifted out under pressure in the home straight.

MR PUNKROCKER (J. Babarovich) and JOVELON (A. Spinks) raced wide throughout.

Race 6: XXXX Gold Cleveland Bay Open Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – KING OF THE KONGO 2nd – BAZZOOKA 3rd – KANETOSHI KING 4th – MAZUKA

D. Simmons replaced the indisposed A. Pattillo as the rider of ZAHAS PRIDE.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow the connections of MONDEAN (D. Missen), THE TAKE (J. Stopps), CHEVAL ARGENTE (A. Spinks) and OUTSTANDINGLY (J. Babarovich) make application that their respective horses be declared non runners on the ground that they had been denied a fair start on the basis that all four runners slipped as the start was affected. After taking evidence from the parties involved, official starter P. Warren and after viewing the patrol footage of the start, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that those runners had in all the circumstances been denied a fair start pursuant to the provisions of AR 134A and subsequently declared correct weight.

As the start was effected CHEVAL ARGENTE (A. Spinks) slipped and blundered badly, almost dislodging Jockey A. Spinks, and as a result lost considerable ground.

THE TAKE (J. Stopps), OUTSTANDINGLY (J. Babarovich), and MONDEAN (D. Missen) slipped as the start was effected and lost ground.

Shortly after the start KANETOSHI KING (C. Whiteley) was tightened for room between DISREPUTE (I. Toward) and MAZUKA (M. Elliott) and had to be eased.

In the early stages BRER FOX (F. Edwards) raced wide.

Near the 800 metres ZAHAS PRIDE (D. Simmons) had to be eased when forced to race in restricted room to the inside of TAORMINA (T. Bannon), which was taken in by DISREPUTE (I. Toward), which in turn was taken in by MAZUKA (M. Elliott), which shifted in after having to be eased when tightened for room between DISREPUTE (I. Toward) and BRER FOX (F. Edwards) which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. Jockey F. Edwards was reprimanded for failing to ensure he was sufficiently clear of MAZUKA before shifting ground.

Approaching the 600 metres AGENT BLUE (K. Wharton) became unbalanced when tightened for room by SIENA’S PRIDE (P. Cullen), which was bumped by BRER FOX (F. Edwards).

At the entrance to the home straight TAORMINA (T. Bannon) was held up and was obliged to shift in to obtain clear running until a point near the 100 metres, where it was momentarily disappointed for a run between ULLADULLA (G. Kliese) and BRER FOX (F. Edwards).

Upon straightening both DISREPUTE (I. Toward) and OUTSTANDINGLY (J. Babarovich) were held up for clear running.

A post-race veterinary examination of THE TAKE revealed that the gelding had swelling to the off fore carpus. Trainer J. Atkinson was advised that she must provide a veterinary clearance prior to THE TAKE being permitted to race again.

MONDEAN (D. Missen), AL’S BEST MATE (J. Stanley), MAZUKA (M. Elliott), KANETOSHI KING (C. Whiteley) and THE TAKE (J. Stopps) raced wide for the majority of the event.

When questioned as to the seemingly improved performance of KINGO OF THE KONGO Trainer G. Taylor noted that today was only his second start with the gelding. Mr Taylor stated that he had galloped KING OF THE KONGO in the week leading up to the gelding’s last start in the Mackay Newmarket Handicap on the 7th of July 2011. As a result of that disappointing performance he was of the view that KING OF THE KONG performed best when fresh as exhibited by its second place two starts ago at Rockhampton on the 25th of June 2011 when first up from a spell. As such Mr Taylor had eased up on the gelding’s work leading into today’s event. The explanation was noted.

Race 7: Jupiters Townsville Cup Open Handicap - 2100 metres
1st – HUSSONATOR 2nd – OLD MATES ACT 3rd – MAGNUM FORTY FOUR 4th – MOLOTOV

Trainer L. Mayfield-Smith advised that INTERTHEBLACK will wear bar plates on both front feet. Public announcements were made to this effect.

Prior to the declaration of correct weight the judge incorrectly semaphored CASH ATTACK as being placed 5th, and then amended his decision, in accordance with the provisions of A.R.156(1) to show that MATIYA’S PRIDE was placed 5th. Accordingly, correct weight was declared on the numbers semaphored by the judge.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to determine whether DANAGAZE (A. Spinks) carried less than its allotted weight as provided for in A.R.143 (a). Stewards established that the lead bag carried by DANAGAZE was dislodged upon pulling up after the event.

Upon returning to scale Jockey P. Cullen reported that CASH ATTACK slipped and blundered on jumping.

In the early stages TEDDY BARE (T. O’Hara) and MOLOTOV (D. Tanti) raced wide.

CASH ATTACK (P. Cullen) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

Upon straightening MATIYA’S PRIDE (I. Toward) was held up for clear running.

In the early part of the straight TIMECALL (J. Babarovich) was held up and was obliged to shift in to improve. TIMECALL was then disappointed for a run inside CAPTAIN BIGGLES (T. Bannon) near the 150m and was held up for the remainder of the event.

Leaving the 100 metres MATIYA’S PRIDE (I. Toward) and DANAGAZE bumped.

MAGNUM FORTY FOUR (C. Whiteley) raced wide throughout.

When questioned as to the performance of DANAGAZE, Jockey A. Spinks stated that after passing the winning post on the first occasion DANAGAZE began to over-race and as a result the saddle on the gelding shifted forward. Jockey Spinks added that as a result he was unable to control DANAGAZE, which continued to over-race and consequently he allowed the gelding to stride forward. Jockey Spinks noted that he was forced to race wide for the remainder of the event and that, combined with the horse having to race forward, which was in contrast to its customary pattern of racing, contributed to the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination of DANAGAZE (A. Spinks) revealed that the gelding was mildly distressed with no significant abnormalities.

Jockey T. O’Hara will be interviewed as to the tactics adopted on TEDDY BARE. A post-race veterinary examination of TEDDY BARE (T. O’Hara) did not reveal any significant abnormalities.

Jockey C. Whiteley will be interviewed as to the use of the whip on MAGNUM FORTY FOUR over the concluding stages.

Jockey A. Coome, the rider of the winner, HUSSONATOR, was fined $200 under A.R. 137(c) for making a celebratory gesture prior to the finish.

Race 8: Townsville Bulletin Open Handicap – 1400 metres
1st – RELEASED 2nd - MIGHTY MITE 3rd – EMBRACING 4th – DIAMOND PURSUIT

J. Stanley replaced the indisposed A. Pattillo as the rider of FRISCO BOPPER.

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer M. Dixon for the late notification of Jockey J. Stopps as the rider of ARGUED.

The start was delayed when DIAMOND PURSUIT (J. Babarovich) proved difficult to load into the barriers. Trainer J. Robbins will be interviewed regarding the horse’s barrier manners.

IN REHEARSAL (D. Missen) and BLACK MORGAN (D. Tanti) were slow to begin.

In the early and middle stages LINE BY LINE (J. Felix) raced wide.

In the middle stages APACHE PUP (F. Edwards) over-raced and had to be steadied from the heels of JUST A TOUCH (K. Wharton).

Near the 250 metres both FRISCO BOPPER (J. Stanley) and LESNER (P. Cullen) were disappointed for a run between LINE BY LINE (J. Felix) and JUST A TOUCH (K. Wharton). As a consequence LESNER had to be eased when awkwardly placed on the heels of JUST A TOUCH.

Near the 200 metres LINE BY LINE (J. Felix) had to be eased from the heels of DIAMOND PURSUIT (J. Babarovich).

MONTGRESIN (C. Whiteley) and GLENGYLE (App. P. Keane) raced wide throughout.

Upon returning to scale Jockey P. Cullen reported that LESNER felt short in its action for the majority of the home straight and therefore he eased the gelding out of the event. A post-race veterinary examination of LESNER revealed that the gelding was lame in the off hind leg. Trainer P. McGuire will be advised that LESNER must obtain a veterinary clearance before racing again.

Jockey F. Edwards will be interviewed as to why APACHE PUP raced in a forward position, in contrast to its normal pattern of racing.

All winners were sent to be swabbed plus 37 pre-race samples
