Race 1: Betting Meetings Everhy Saturday @ Cluden Maiden Plate - 1400 metres
1st – SUDDENLY SWEET 2nd – BENTLEY’S BEST 3rd – THE SKATER 4th – HAILING

SUDDENLY SWEET (M. Elliott) blundered on jumping.

STRITIQUE (A. Merritt) and KOBBER’S MAGIC (J. Stopps) were slow to begin.

In the early stages HAILING (F. Edwards) raced wide.

For a short distance on straightening STRITIQUE (A. Merritt) was held up and unable to obtain clear running.

Approaching the 200 metres SUDDENLY SWEET (M. Elliott) and BENTLEY’S BEST (P. Cullen) bumped.

In the home straight STRITIQUE (A. Merritt) raced greenly.

When questioned as to the seemingly improved performance of SUDDENLY SWEET, Trainer G. Dickson stated that at its most recent start SUDDENLY SWEET had failed to handle the three day back-up from its previous race. Mr Dixon added that he had instructed Jockey M. Elliott to take up a forward position today as SUDDENLY SWEET was better suited when ridden just off the pace, compared to its last start when it was pressured in the early stages to take up a position outside the leader. The explanation was noted.

When questioned as to the tactics adopted on NINETYSIX KRUG, Jockey D. Tanti stated that he had been instructed to take up a forward position if the gelding began well. Jockey Tanti said that after beginning only fairly, NINETYSIX KRUG failed to muster any early speed and as a consequence he was obliged to race in a rearward position. Jockey Tanti expressed his disappointment in the performance of NINETYSIX KRUG and had indicated to connections that the gelding may be in need of a spell. Trainer W. Pomfrett stated that he would advise connections to spell NINETYSIX KRUG.

Following this race the track rating was downgraded retrospectively from a Good (3) to a Dead (4).

Race 2: WHK NQ Class 1 Handicap - 1630 Metres
1st – SWIFTLY BRAVE 2nd - STRUCKBYLIGHTNING 3rd – JOY’S SPIRIT 4th – SUNTIME

Due to a clerical error, Ian Coombes instead of Adrian Coome was inadvertently declared as the rider of SUNTIME.

Trainer G. Wehlow advised stewards that from its wide alley STRUCKBYLIGHTNING will be ridden in a forward position if possible. Public announcements were made to this effect and the horse was ridding accordingly.

At the start THE CADDIE (D. Tanti) was tightened for room between SAZERAC (M. Elliott) and RENEGADES (D. Simmons).

For a short distance near the 1400 metres BRICK LANE (A. Merritt) raced ungenerously.

Near the 1300 metres SAZERAC (M. Elliott) made contact with the running rail.
RENEGADES (D. Simmons) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Jockey D. Tanti reported that the connections of THE CADDIE had advised him that the gelding will be sent for a spell.

Jockey I. Toward was reprimanded under A.R. 137A(5)(a)(ii) for using his whip on STRUCKBYLIGHTNING on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100 metres.

When questioned as to the tactics adopted on SWIFTLY BRAVE, Jockey C. Whiteley explained that he was instructed to take up a handy position, in accordance with the usual instructions issued to him when he has ridden SWIFTLY BRAVE. Jockey Whiteley added that SWIFTLY BRAVE began well and found its way to the lead without being pressured. Jockey Whiteley was satisfied with the tempo set in the early and middle stages and as such he was content to retain the lead. The explanation was noted.

Race 3: Mac’s Amusement & Prestige Costume Hire Class 5 Handicap - 1200 metres
1st – FALVELIZABETH 2nd – DAHARA PRIZE 3rd – CAPTAIN DARLING 4th – VIA REAL

Stewards considered an objection lodged by Apprentice A. Kitson, the rider of DAHARA PRIZE which finished second, against FALVELIZABETH (C. Whiteley) being declared the winner, alleging interference over the concluding stages in that DAHARA PRIZE was struck over the nose by the whip of Jockey C. Whiteley.. After taking evidence from the parties involved, viewing the official patrol films and taking into account their own observations, stewards dismissed the protest when they found that though DAHARA PRIZE was unintentionally struck on the nose by the whip of Jockey Whiteley, they could not be satisfied that any interference suffered by DAHARA PRIZE warranted the reversal of the judge’s placings. Accordingly, correct weight was declared and the placings ordered to stand.

BRINGELLY (P. Cullen) was slow to begin.

At the start CAPTAIN DARLING (D. Simmons) shifted in and bumped FALVELIZABETH (C. Whiteley).

Shortly after the start RUNNING REIGN (T. Bannon) was tightened for room between DAHARA PRIZE (App. A. Kitson) and VIA REAL (D. Tanti).

In the early stages VIA REAL (D. Tanti) over-raced.

For the majority of the event RUNNING REIGN (T. Bannon) and BRINGELLY (P. Cullen) raced wide.

When questioned as to the tactics adopted on DAHARA PRIZE, particularly rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight, App. A. Kitson stated that rounding the home turn she took up a position on the outside of FALVELIZABETH (C. Whiteley), but was held up on the heels of the tiring RUNNING REIGN (T. Bannon) and was unable to shift out further due to BRINGELLY (P. Cullen) being positioned to her outside. Apprentice Kitson said that she therefore elected to shift back to the inside, and approaching the 200 metres attempted a run between FALVELIZABETH and VIA REAL (D. Tanti), however was disappointed for that run when both FALVELIZABETH and VIA REAL shifted ground. Apprentice Kitson added that she then elected to shift to the outside of FALVELIZABETH, at which stage DAHARA PRIZE finished off the race well. After viewing the patrol footage trainer M. Connor was satisfied that the decisions taken by App. Kitson were in the best interests of the performance of DAHARA PRIZE. The explanations were noted.

Race 4: Arnell Industries QTIS 3-Y-O Maiden Handicap - 1000 metres
1st – FAST ‘N’ FEROCIOUS 2nd – FATAL AFFAIR 3rd – WHAT’S BUZZING 4th – RANUI COASTER

The start was delayed when FRESH BLOOD (App. C. Pye) and WHAT’S BUZZING (A. Coome) both proved difficult to load into the barriers.

WHAT’S BUZZING (A. Coome), FRESH BLOOD (App. C. Pye), and RAVISSANTE FILLE (P. Cullen) were slow to begin.

For a short distance shortly after the start RANUI COASTER (J. Stopps) was forced to race in restricted room between DELAGO DECOY (A. Merritt) and FATAL AFFAIR (I. Toward), which shifted in.

Near the 300 metres MCKINLAY (F. Edwards) and DELAGO DECOY (A. Merritt) bumped.

Jockey F. Edwards reported that MCKINLAY raced greenly throughout.

In the home straight DELAGO DECOY (A. Merritt) raced greenly.

DELAGO DECOY (A. Merritt) and MOVE ME KATE (D. Simmons) raced wide throughout.

Race 5: Paine’s Rural Produce Class 3 Plate - 1000 metres
1st – BREAKERS PATH 2nd – JOHN’S SPECTIAL 3rd – MEEZAH 4th – GATO

MEEZAH (F. Edwards) was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start JOHN’S SPECIAL (A. Coome) and PUBLIC AFFAIR bumped.

Leaving the 600 meres PRONOUNCE (App. C. Pye) commenced to over-race on the heels of JOHN’S SPECIAL (A. Coome) and on two occasions had to be eased. Then rounding the home turn PRONOUNCE (App. C. Pye) was inclined to lay out across the heels of PETE THE CLOWN (I. Toward) and again had to be eased.

In the early part of the home straight MEEZAH (F. Edwards) was momentarily held up for clear running.

Jockey A. Coome reported that JOHN’S SPECIAL failed to quicken as expected after leaving the 250 metres. Jockey Coome was of the view that the fact that the gelding was having its second start from a spell and had not travelled well may have contributed to its failure to finish off the race as anticipated.

Race 6: Buildworks NQ Class 2 Handicap - 1300 metres
1st – HELIOPOLIS 2nd – SABI SANDS 3rd – DOMITILLA 4th – COCO LOCO

RESIDENCE (App. C. Pye) was slow to begin.

In the early stages HELIOPOLIS (F. Edwards) raced wide.

Leaving the 800 COCO LOCO (C. Whiteley) was awkwardly placed on the heels of DOMITILLA (M. Elliott) and had to be steadied.

COCO LOCO (C. Whiteley) raced wide throughout.

Jockey P. Cullen was afforded the opportunity to explain the tactics and performance of KEPT ON ICE. Jockey Cullen stated that he anticipated taking up a handy position, but after beginning only fairly he elected to take up a position just behind DESTINY EXPRESS (T. Bannon), however when runners positioned wider on the track pushed forward in the early stages he was forced to race further back than originally intended. Jockey Cullen added that KEPT ON ICE failed to travel comfortably for the majority of the event and from a point leaving the 700 metres had a tendency to hang out. The explanation was noted.

Race 7: RSD Plumbing Open Handicap - 1000 metres
1st – CONTESTED BID 2nd – SIENA’S PRIDE 3rd – HERESAY 4th – VOODOO BROWN MAGIC

Shortly after the start SUPER SHADOW (D. Simmons) was tightened for room between HERESAY (A. Merritt) and MAZUKA (App. C. Pye), which was taken out by RATINGS WINNER (F. Edwards).
In the early stages MAZUKA (App. C. Pye) was forced to race in restricted room to the inside of SIENA’S PRIDE (P. Cullen) and near the 600 metres was obliged to ease when SIENA’S PRIDE crossed forward of MAZUKA. Jockey Cullen will be advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.

Apprentice C. Pye reported that MAZUKA was held up for clear running rounding the home turn, and near the 300 metres attempted a run to the inside of SIENA’S PRIDE (P. Cullen), however approaching the 100 metres and again over the concluding stages had to ease MAZUKA when SIENA’S PRIDE shifted in marginally.

Leaving the 300 metres CONTESTED BID (App. A. Kitson) shifted out and bumped TAUPIN (C. Whiteley) on a number of occasions.
