SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT: Atherton, 24th March 2012:

Race 5: Watto’s Earthmoving & Machinery Hire P/L – Class 6 Plate 1000 metres

Trainer Ms J. Ryan reported that following its poor performance in this event it was found that CHEQUIN had an abscess on its near fore hoof.

LATE RIDING CHANGES:

When Jockey A. Coome was indisposed and unable to fulfil his engagements, substitutions were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet. Jockey Coome was advised that he must furnish a medical clearance prior to being permitted to ride again.

Race 1: Verve Advertising & Design Studio Maiden Handicap – 1630 metres
1st – FIREPIT 2nd – BENTLEY’S BEST 3rd – JUST BOY 4th – MR GOLD

Stewards notified Ms L. Boarin, trainer of WHY FLY which performed poorly, that the gelding will not be permitted to start at Provincial race meetings until it performs competitively in non-TAB events.

Jockey F. Edwards, the rider of MR GOLD, reported that shortly after the start the gelding got its head up when being restrained. Jockey Edwards stated that when the pace was slow in the early stages he elected to go forward and lead after passing the 1400 metres. Jockey Edwards added that in the straight MR GOLD was disappointing and failed to finish off the race.

Race 2: XXXX Gold Class 6 Handicap - 1300 Metres
1st – BALUSTRADE 2nd - GLENGYLE 3rd – VOODOO BAY MAGIC 4th – OSCAR THE GREAT

OSCAR THE GREAT (J. Felix) was slow to begin.

For a short distance rounding the home turn GLENGYLE (App. C. Priest) was held up and unable to obtain clear running.

VOODOO BAY MAGIC (G. Cullen) and OSCAR THE GREAT (J. Felix) raced wide throughout.

Race 3: Join The TTC 100 Club Today Class 4 Handicap - 1200 metres
1st – MOB RULE 2nd – MEEZAH 3rd – LYNDI’S GIFT 4th – POWER SOURCE

In the course of its preliminary POWER SOURCE refused to proceed to the barriers. Jockey G. Kliese dismounted from the gelding and POWER SOURCE was led to the barriers by an attendant. Stable representative for trainer S. Kendrick, Mr R. Cox, was notified that a warning will be placed on the gelding’s race day behaviour.

Jockey T. Bannon reported that in the early stages VITREOUS attempted to pig-root. Trainer Mr J. Manzelmann was advised that the gelding must perform to the satisfaction of the stewards before being permitted to race again.

When questioned as to the seemingly improved performance of MOB RULE, trainer Mr E. Sewell stated that, due to inclement weather conditions, the gelding had missed work in the lead-up to its start in a 1000 metres event at Townsville on 13th March, where it performed reasonably. Mr Sewell added that MOB RULE again missed work prior to its most recent start, at Townsville on 27th March, where it ran out of condition over the concluding stages. Mr Sewell noted that he had been surprised by the horse’s win today. Nevertheless, he was reminded of his obligation to advise stewards of anything that may have had any bearing on the horse’s performance.

Race 4: Follow Us On Facebook QTIS 2-Y-O Maiden Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – GWENNIE 2nd – FRAIDSO 3rd – SOCIAL SUICIDE 4th –

FRAIDSO (P. Cullen), MISS SUGAR (App. B. Swaffer) and CANDY MOMENT (J. Long) began awkwardly.

For a short distance rounding the home turn ROCK LOGIC (A. Merritt) was held up and unable to obtain a clear run.

Shortly after entering the home straight Apprentice C. Priest, the rider of BAGNACE, lost the use of her offside rein for a number of strides.

BAGNACE (App. C. Priest), SOCIAL SUICIDE (D. Tanti) and NASEEM (G. Kliese) raced wide throughout.

When questioned as to the performance of LOVE THAT DRAGON, which raced below market expectations, Jockey W. D’Avila stated that he was disappointed with the gelding’s run. Jockey D’Avila said that the horse travelled reasonably well in the early and middle stages but failed to respond to his riding in the straight. Jockey D’Avila added that the gelding would take benefit from today’s run. A post-race veterinary examination of LOVE THAT DRAGON did not reveal any abnormalities.
