1st – AL MADAM 2nd – MR GOLD 3rd – SPURPARTS 4th – GARRULOUS

Approaching the home turn GARRULOUS (App. A. Holt) was held up and unable to obtain clear running for a short distance.

Near the 100 metres MANUMIT (J. P. Stanley) had to be steadied and shifted in away from SPURPARTS (I. Toward), which shifted in under pressure. Jockey Toward was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Rounding the home turn and in the straight MR GOLD (C. Whiteley) laid in under pressure.

Approaching the winning post CASINOJEAN (App. B. Swaffer) had to be eased and shifted in to avoid the heels of GARRULOUS (App. A. Holt).

Race 2: Lloyd Mitchell Open Handicap - 1000 Metres
1st – MR PUNKROCKER 2nd - ORIENTELLE 3rd – MAGIC COUNTRY 4th – WHITSUNDAY EXPRESS

The start was delayed when MAGIC COUNTRY (A. Spinks) had to be re-saddled behind the barriers.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey J. P. Stanley, the rider of ORIENTELLE, to view the video film of the start. Having done so, Jockey Stanley was satisfied and correct weight was declared.

Shortly after the start ORIENTELLE (J. P. Stanley) had to be eased when tightened for room between MR PUNKROCKER (P. Cullen) and WHITSUNDAY EXPRESS (M. Elliott), which shifted in slightly.

Leaving the 800 metres WHITSUNDAY EXPRESS (M. Elliott) was hampered when tightened for room between SEQUABOOMWA (I. Toward) and RICOCHET MOUNTAIN (App. B. Swaffer), which shifted in slightly despite the efforts of its rider.

In the straight MAGIC COUNTRY (A. Spinks) had a tendency to lay in under pressure.

Race 3: - Global Welding Supplies Clas 1 Handicap - 1000 metres
1st – ARCATRAN 2nd – PASSIN’ THRU 3rd – GESTICULATION 4th – POCKET WATCH

Shortly after the start ARCATRAM (M. Elliott) and RECORD TAKER (P. Cullen) knuckled.

Approaching the home turn POCKET WATCH (App. B. Swaffer), which was over-racing, had to be eased off the heels of MASTER FORESHORE (W. D’Avila), which shifted out slightly. A short distance later, POCKET WATCH had to be eased to avoid the heels of JUST CHILL OUT (D. Tanti).

Approaching the 400 metres POCKET WATCH (App. B. Swaffer) shifted out, forcing GESTICULATION (T. Bannon) wider. Trainer Mr T. Rowe informed stewards that it was now his intention to send POCKET WATCH for a short let-up.

Near the 300 metres JUST CHILL OUR (D. Tanti) had to be checked when tightened for room between MENDEZ (App. A. Holt), which was taken in slightly by POCKET WATCH (App. B. Swaffer), and MASTER FORESHORE (W. D’Avila), which shifted out slightly under pressure. Jockey D’Avila was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Race 4: Glenn Sexton Constructions Class 3 Plate – 1000 metres
1st – PENSKI MATERIAL 2nd – HAM HOT DOG 3rd – MAKE A DEAL 4th – NOTIUS

The start was delayed when DOUBLE HEADER (A. Spinks) proved difficult to load into the barriers.

LAGASON (F. Edwards) began awkwardly.

Near the 800 metres AVGAS (P. Cullen) shifted in and tightened the running of DOUBLE HEADER (A. Spinks), which was taken in onto PENSKI MATERIAL (App. B. Swaffer).

Jockey I. Toward pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that near the 700 metres he permitted HAM HOT DOG to shift in when insufficiently clear of POWER REPORT (J. P. Stanley), thereby tightening that gelding in onto NOTIUS (T. Bannon), resulting in POWER REPORT being severely hampered and NOTIUS having to be checked to avoid the heels of THIRTY THREE LARGE (App. N. Bin Yadi). Jockey Toward was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 3 NQ meetings, to commence at midnight on 8th September 2012, up to and including midnight on 18th September 2012.

Apprentice B. Swaffer pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that near the 200 metres he permitted PENSKI MATERIAL to shift out when insufficiently clear of DOUBLE HEADER (A. Spinks), which had to be checked when tightened for room between PENSKI MATERIAL and HAM HOT DOG (I. Toward). Apprentice Swaffer was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 3 NQ meetings, to commence at midnight on 8th September 2012, up to and including midnight 18th September 2012. A post-race veterinary examination of PENSKI MATERIAL revealed that the mare had sustained a laceration of the near hind leg above the fetlock.

Race 5: Far North Wholesalers Class 1 Handicap – 1630 metres
1st – CRACK A SMILE 2nd – KOOLASACAT 3rd – ZAHMATAS ADJOURNED 4th – BEVERLY HILLS

When Jockey R. Ryan was indisposed and unable to fulfil his engagement, Jockey A.
Spinks was substituted as the rider of KOOLASACAT. Jockey Ryan was advised that he must furnish a medical clearance prior to being permitted to ride again.

In the early and middle stages THAT’S WHAT I WANT (App. B. Swaffer) over-raced and after passing the 1300 metres App. Swaffer allowed the mare to stride forward.

Jockey M. Elliott pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that near the 1500 metres he permitted FINROD to shift in when insufficiently clear of STAUNCH NORTH (A. Merritt), which had to be checked when tightened for room between FINROD and CRACK A SMILE (C. Whiteley). Jockey Elliott was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 3 NQ meetings, to commence at midnight on 8th September 2012, up to and including midnight on 18th September 2012.

Near the 1400 metres STAUNCH NORTH (A. Merritt) had to be eased to avoid the heels of FINROD (M. Elliott), which shifted in slightly.

Race 6: Soil Engineering Services Class 2 Handicap – 1300 metres
1st – BIANCO ROSSA 2nd – EUREKA DUBAI 3rd – PERFECT HUSSEY 4th – JESTERS DELIGHT

GO AMIGO (App. N. Bin Yadi) was slow to begin.

When asked about his riding of BIANCO ROSSA, Jockey G. Kliese stated that after discussing tactics with trainer Mr K. Baumann it had been agreed that the gelding should be ridden quietly in the early stages, in accordance with its normal racing pattern. Jockey Kliese said, however, that when BIANCO ROSSA began well from its inside barrier draw he elected to take up a more handy position. The explanation was noted.

Stewards adjourned to a date to be fixed an inquiry into Jockey G. Kliese’s use of the whip on BIANCO ROSSA in the straight.

Race 7: Logistics North Queensland Class 5 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st - HELIOPOLIS 2nd - MANHATTAN LAD 3rd - DAHARA PRIZE 4th - GALLANT HAWK

In the middle stages GATO (D. Simmons) and MELAINA ROSE (D. Tanti) over-raced.

Approaching the 300 metres GATO (D. Simmons) was hampered when tightened for room between MELAINA ROSE (D. Tanti) and SIMPLE TASK (I. Toward), which was taken out slightly by RATINGS WINNER (P. Cullen), which in turn was forced out by CAPTAIN DARLING (T. Bannon), which shifted to the outside of MANHATTAN LAD (App. B. Swaffer) to obtain clear running.

Near the 200 metres Jockey P. Cullen, the rider of RATINGS WINNER, accidentally dropped his whip.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED and pre-race samples were taken from SPURPARTS, AL MADAM, JOY’S SPIRIT and DEVIL’S BREW
