Race 1: - www.townsvilleturfclub.com.au Class 5 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – COUNTERIZE 2nd – SUNSETS ON FIRE 3rd – SURE DIVERSION 4th – MEEZAAH

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer Mr G. Farrell for the late notification of Apprentice E. Ljung as the rider of SUNSETS ON FIRE.

CARLTON FORWARD (R. Ryan) was slow to begin.

Near the 800 metres MEEZAAH (W. D’Avila) was tightened for room between CAPTAIN DARLING (D. Simmons) and CARLTON FORWARD (R. Ryan), which commenced to hang out, resulting in CAPTAIN DARLING having to race 3 wide.

Stewards questioned Jockey A. Coome in regard to the tactics he adopted on COUNTERIZE, which raced in a rearward position in the early stages, contrary to the horse’s normal racing pattern. Jockey Coome explained that it was intended that COUNTERSIZE race in a forward position, however when he was unable to show the required pace from his wide barrier he had elected to restrain his mount and race further back than anticipated. Stewards noted his explanation.

Race 2: - SKY Racing QTIS 2-Years-Old Maiden Handicap – 1200 Metres
1st – HOT SAGA 2nd – MOON PALACE 3rd – NOTABITOFWHITE 4th – STANDFORD

STANDFORD (W. D’Avila) was very slow to begin and then approaching and leaving the 800 metres raced up onto the heels of MOON PALACE (D. Simmons) and had to be steadied.

Near the 700 metres STANDFORD (W. D’Avila) shifted out and bumped NOTABITOFWHITE (S. Pawsey).

CROOKED MARY (A. Pattillo) raced wide throughout.

Following the race trainer Mr R. Long advised stewards that it was his intention to spell MOON PALACE (D. Hayse).

Race 3: Join The TTC 100 Club Now Open Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – CANHEDANCE 2nd – DOYADEAL 3rd – READY TO RISE 4th – SPEED SECRET

In the middle stages FAST ‘N’ FEROCIOUS (W. D’Avila) over-raced.

Leaving the 500 metres FAST ‘N’ FEROCIOUS (W. D’Avila) attempted to shift out to obtain clear running and in doing so made contact with DOYADEAL (I. Toward).

In the home straight FAST ‘N’ FEROCIOUS (W. D’Avila) was unable to obtain clear running and went to the line without being fully tested.

Approaching the winning post READY TO RISE (F. Edwards) was crowded for room between CANHEDANCE (G. Kliese) and DOYADEAL (I. Toward), both of which shifted ground when under pressure.

RONTGEN (M. Elliott) raced wide throughout.

When questioned as to his riding of FAST ‘N’ FEROCIOUS approaching the finish line, Jockey D’Avila stated that whilst he was held up for clear running in the home straight, he was concerned that if he applied pressure to the gelding it may have improved sharply onto the heels of CANHEDANCE (G. Kliese), placing him in danger of clipping the heels of that runner, and as such he refrained from placing his mount under pressure at that stage of the event. Stewards noted his explanation, nevertheless they reminded Jockey D’Avila of his obligation under A.R. 137(b).

Race 4: Book a Function @ Cluden Park Maiden Plate – 1200 metres
1st – BREAKTHROUGH 2nd – SUNSHINE LAD 3rd – ERNEST ALBERT 4th – COLLIDE

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow App. E. Ljung, the rider of ERNEST ALBERT which finished 3rd, to watch the official video films in the presence of her master, Ms O Cairns, with a view to lodging an objection against BREAKTHROUGH (S. Pawsey) being declared the winner. Having done so, App. Ljung elected not to lodge a protest and correct weight was declared.

LITTLE ELLIOTT (D. Hayes) began awkwardly and lost ground.

DELAGO DECOY (M. Elliott) was slow to begin.

Near the 600 metres LITTLE ELLIOT (D. Hayes) improved onto the heels of BREAKTHROUGH (S. Pawsey), clipped the heels of that runner and blundered. DELAGO DECOY (M. Elliott), which was following, had to be checked as a consequence.

Jockey S. Pawsey pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that leaving the 100 metres he permitted BREAKTHROUGH to shift in under hard riding when insufficiently clear of FAINT PRAISE (G. Kliese), which had to be steadied to avoid the heels of BREAKTHROUGH. BREAKTHROUGH then continued to shift in under riding when insufficiently clear of COLLIDE (A. Pattillo) and ERNEST ALBERT (App. E. Ljung), resulting in both of those runners being checked to avoid the heels of BREAKTHROUGH. Jockey Pawsey was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 3 North Queensland meetings, to commence at midnight Saturday 2nd March 2013, up to and including midnight on Saturday 16th March 2013. In assessing penalty stewards took into account the degree of carelessness and the severity of the interference.

Race 5: www.magicmillions.com.au Class 1 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – SOLIDIFY 2nd – CANDY MOMENT 3rd – FRAIDSO 4th – DELTA DRAGON

MISS LIBERTY (M. Elliott), which was fractious in the barriers, was slow to begin.

SOLIDIFY (I. Toward) blundered on jumping.

SPURFECT (S. Pawsey) began awkwardly.

In the early stages HARLEY JOHN (A. Pattillo) raced 3 wide.

FRAIDSO (A. Dykes) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Race 6: Like Us On Facebook Class 3 Plate – 1630 metres
1st – VALERA 2nd – WHATZAHMATA 3rd – BIANCO ROSSA 4th – GRIMHILD’S REVENGE

SPURFECT (S. Pawsey) and COMANDERO (App. E. Ljung) were slow to begin.

In the early and middle stages ROYAL IMPACT (D. Simmons) raced ungenerously when being restrained, then raced wide for the remainder of the event.

At the 1400 metres ROYAL IMPACT (D. Simmons), which was over-racing, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of HAYDEE (F. Edwards), which shifted in. Jockey F. Edwards was advised to exercise more care.

In the early stages HAYDEE (F. Edwards) raced wide.

Leaving the 200 metres SECRET ORDERS (A. Pattillo) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of GRIMHILD’S REVENGE (W. D’Avila), which shifted in under pressure. Jockey D’Avila was reprimanded and advised to show greater care.

ROYAL IMPACT (D. Simmons) and SECRET ORDERS (A. Pattillo) raced wide throughout.

Race 7: Magic Millions 2013 QTIS Sale 17 & 18 March Class 2 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – STARLISTIC 2nd – LIONHEARTED BOY 3rd – EXCAPISHE 4th - PEMBERTON

Stewards inquired into the reason why, a short distance after the start, MORTIE (M. Elliott) appeared to clip heels and fall, dislodging Jockey Elliott. After taking evidence from all riders involved, viewing the official video films and taking into account the observations of the stewards it was established that STARLISTIC (App. B. Floyd) shifted out at the start and made contact with FOURSREAL (W. D’Avila) which became unbalanced and a short distance later shifted out, forcing DECADERO (App. E. Ljung) outwards, tightening the running of MORTIE, which was further inconvenienced by EXCAPISHE (A. Dykes), which shifted in slightly. As a result of the incident MORTIE clipped the heels of DECADERO and fell, dislodging Jockey M. Elliott. As stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that any one rider was responsible for the incident, no further action was taken. Jockey M. Elliott was examined by the Ambulance officers and cleared of any significant injury. A post-race veterinary examination of MORTIE revealed abrasions to its off foreleg.

At the 600 metres FOURSREAL (W. D’Avila) shifted out slightly and made contact with the hindquarters of EXCAPISHE (A. Dykes), which became unbalanced.

MISTAKEN BID (I. Toward) raced wide throughout.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED and pre-race samples were taken from CAPTAIN DARLING, YOUNG BASIL, NO IMAGINATION and VALERA.
