LATE RIDING CHANGES:
When Jockey W. D’Avila was unable to fulfil his engagements due to transport difficulties, substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 1: - Summer Sunday Session 15 December QTIS 2-Y-O Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – VO TREASURE 2nd – NEVETUS 3rd – CRAIGLEA DIVINE 4th – MODEL TO EXCEED
PRETTY VACANT (G. Kliese) stood flat-footed as the start was effected, then shifted in abruptly on jumping and lost ground. Trainer G. Farrell was advised that a warning will be placed on the colt’s racing manners.
MODEL TO EXCEED (J. P. Stanley) began awkwardly and shifted out, then raced greenly for the majority of the event.
In the middle stages CRAIGLEA DIVINE (A.Coome) and NEVETUS (S. Pawsey) had a tendency to hang out.
Approaching the 500 metres MODEL TO EXCEED was forced to steady and shift out to avoid the heels of ST ANTHONY (S. Wilson), which shifted out marginally.
Race 2: - Summer Festival of Racing @ Cluden Class 1 Handicap – 1000 Metres
1st – GREEDY 2nd - MORE THAN A SONG 3rd – SHADOWS OF SIN 4th – LOVE THAT DRAGON
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer R. Finch for the late declaration of Jockey A. Dykes as the rider of ZATSACAT. Public announcements were made informing patrons that ZATSACAT raced at Ingham on Saturday last, 23rd November, finished 5th, beaten 4.6 lengths in a Class B 1200 metres, carried 55.5kg.
When Jockey W. D’Avila was unable to fulfil his engagement for DECADENT, initially Jockey S. Pawsey was substituted as the rider of the mare. However, when Jockey Pawsey was to be overweight and no senior rider was available, stewards permitted App. B. Swaffer to be substituted. In the circumstances no further action was taken
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow App. J. Kuskopf, the rider of LOVE THAT DRAGON which finished 4th, to view the patrol films with a view to lodging an objection against GREEDY (I. Toward) being declared the winner. Having done so, App. Kuskopf elected not to lodge a protest and stewards declared correct weight on the judge’s numbers.
At the start ZATSACAT (A. Dykes) was hampered by GREEDY, which shifted out.
CLAUDE (J. Felix) was hampered at the start by RAY’S ROCKET (G. Kliese), which shifted in.
Near the 600 metres LOVE THAT DRAGON (App. J. Kuskopf) was forced to check to avoid the heels of GREEDY, which shifted in when not completely clear. As a result, LOVE THAT DRAGON shifted out, causing DECADENT (App. B. Swaffer) and BALLISTA DEE (App. S. Wiseman) to be momentarily tightened for room. Stewards advised Jockey Toward to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Near the 300 metres MORE THAN A SONG (M. Elliott) was momentarily held up and unable to obtain clear running.
On returning to scale Jockey G. Kliese advised stewards that it was his intention to ride CROTCHET in a forward position today, however the gelding was unable to muster early pace and as a result raced further back in the field than anticipated. Jockey Kliese added that the gelding ran on fairly over the concluding stages of the event and he was not entirely disappointed with its performance. Jockey Kliese noted also that CROTCHET sweated up very badly prior to the event and was fractious in the mounting yard, which may have been to the horse’s detriment.
Race 3: - The Coffee Club Maiden Plate – 1200 metres
1st – OKAY SWIFT 2nd – SEQUALO SUZIE 3rd – MOLONGLE CHIEF 4th – NAGA VIPER
Trainer O. Cairns advised stewards that, due to problems with the Risa Services Centre, she was unable to notify the scratching of WILLIE CLANG by the prescribed time, and therefore she contacted stewards at 9.20 a.m., at which stage WILLIE CLANG was declared a late scratching by order of the stewards. In the circumstances no further action was taken.
Public announcements were made informing patrons that OKAY SWIFT raced at Ingham on Saturday last, 23rd November, finished 3rd in a Maiden Plate over 1100m, carried 57kg and was beaten 0.3 lengths.
NAGA VIPER (App. B. Swaffer) jumped inwards at the start.
CASINOJEAN (App. S. Wiseman) began awkwardly and lost ground.
RAY’S ROCKET (G. Kliese) was slow into stride.
In the early part of the home straight SEQUALO SUZIE (App. E. Ljung) was momentarily tightened for room to the inside of NATURAL GAL (A. Dykes), which shifted in marginally.
On returning to scale Jockey A. Dykes reported that NATURAL GAL had a tendency to race greenly throughout the event.
Stewards questioned Jockeys J. P. Stanley, the rider of UPMARKET, and F. Edwards, the rider of MOLONGLE CHIEF, in relation to the tactics adopted on their respective mounts during the middle stages of the event, where they were at the head of a division of runners that were racing a considerable distance from the first four horses, and further, as to whether there was an opportunity for them to be closer to the leading group of horses. Both riders explained that they rode their mounts along in the early stages in an endeavour to obtain a handy position, however during the early stages they were unable to maintain a close trailing position behind the runners forward of them. They advised further that their mounts never travelled strongly during the middle stages and were always under some pressure to keep in touch with the leaders, which resulted in their racing a considerable distance further back than they had intended. Jockey Edwards further advised stewards that, whilst it may have appeared that his mount made ground over the concluding stages, he was more of the view that the leading runners tired over the final stages, as distinct from MOLONGLE CHIEF making strong late ground. Jockey Stanley said that in his opinion UPMARKET was unable to muster the necessary pace in the middle stages to be competitive, and he had advised trainer B. Williams that the gelding will be better suited racing with blinkers and over longer distances than today’s event.
When questioned as to the disappointing performance of PRESSUM, Jockey J. Felix explained that he had intended to ride the gelding in the second half of the field today, a position he was able to obtain. Jockey Felix said passing the 800 metres PRESSUM was momentarily tightened for room and lost some ground, and thereafter never travelled strongly in the event. Jockey Felix added that as a result of the manner in which the race was run, the gelding got further back in the field than he had anticipated, however over the concluding stages failed to run on and in his opinion was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of PRESSUM did not reveal any abnormalities.
Race 4: – Far “Lap” Pavilions BenchMark 75 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – EUREKA DUBAI 2nd – MAGIC COUNTRY 3rd – BOLT FROM THE BLUE 4th – DIMI THE DANCER
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey P. Cullen, the rider of DIMI THE DANCER which finished fourth, to view the official patrol videos to determine whether he should lodge an objection against EUREKA DUBAI (S. Wilson) being declared the winner. Having viewed the video films Jockey Cullen elected not to lodge a protest and stewards declared correct weight on the judge’s numbers.
DIMI THE DANCER dwelt at the start and lost ground.
Shortly after the start STIEG (S. Pawsey) shifted in and bumped MAGIC COUNTRY (J. P. Stanley).
During the middle stages DIMI THE DANCER raced strongly on the heels of EUREKA DUBAI.
App. E. Ljung was reminded of her obligations under A.R.137A(4)(c) in relation to excessive use of the whip on horses that were out of contention.
Jockey S. Wilson pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that over the concluding stages he permitted EUREKA DUBAI to shift in when insufficiently clear of DIMI THE DANCER (P. Cullen), resulting in that gelding having to be checked. Jockey Wilson was suspended from riding in races for a period dovering 2 meetings, to commence at midnight 26th November 2013, up to and including 7th December 2013.
Race 5: – Hygain / Feed 2 Go Open Handicap – 1400 metres
1st – COMIC RULER 2nd – MIGHTY MITE 3rd – GENERAL RIPPA 4th – MOROSSA
When Jockey S. Pawsey was to be overweight, Jockey D. Hayse was substituted as the rider of RATTUS CONATUS. Jockey Pawsey was fined $100 under A.R. 120(b).
BOLTON (P. Cullen) was slow into stride.
On returning to scale Jockey M. Elliott advised stewards that after being caught wide early he allowed MOROSSA to stride forward passing the 1000 metres and obtain a leading position.
In the middle stages of the event GENERAL RIPPA (I. Toward) over-raced.
Rounding the home turn GENERAL RIPPA was disappointed for a run between HOLDONTOYAHORSES (F. Edwards) and RATTUS CONATUS (D. Hayse), and as a result was forced to shift to the inside to obtain clear running.
Race 6: – Gracie Signs BenchMark 65 Handicap – 1400 metres
1st – VON SEBASTIAN 2nd – STRADIVARI MISS 3rd – OTTANA 4th – VILLE VILAINE

BANDIDAS (I. Toward) and GOGO DELAGO (S. Pawsey) were slow to begin.
WILL IMPRESS (S. Wilson) raced wide throughout.
In the early and middle stages BRANDY BEAU ( App. E. Ljung) raced wide.
Leaving the 100 metres BURT was forced to steady to avoid the heels of FILLE VILAINE (d. Hayse).

PRESS PLAY (D. Hayse) raced wide for the majority of the event.
When placed under pressure over the concluding stages of the event IDLE SITUATION (App. J. Kuskopf) shifted out.
When questioned as to the seemingly disappointing performance of FROG HOLLOW, Jockey F. Edwards that the gelding began well and he was able to obtain a forward position during the event. Jockey Edwards stated that when placed under pressure in the home straight FROG HOLLOW ran on only fairly and proved somewhat disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
A post-race veterinary examination of DIAMOND BILL (I. Toward), which finished tailed off, revealed that the gelding was very lame in the off hind leg. Trainer G. Wehlow will be advised that he must furnish a veterinary clearance prior to the gelding being permitted to race again.
