Race 1: - It’s a Ripper to be a Nipper Maiden Handicap – 1400 metres
1st – DIVIDED 2nd – DR STRANGELOVE 3rd – PALMERSTON NORTH 4th – LAKE VERMONT

Trainer G. Wehlow informed stewards that DR STRANGELOVE (A. Coome) will be ridden in a forward position if circumstances permit. Public announcements were made to that effect. The gelding was ridden accordingly.

DIVIDED (S. Wilson) and PALMERSTON NORTH (T. Bannon) were slow into stride.

Near the 400 metres LAKE VERMONT (P. Cullen) was placed in restricted room between LADY ISLES (J. Felix) and DIVIDED, which shifted in slightly. Jockey S. Wilson was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Approaching the 200 metres LAKE VERMONT had to be steadied from the heels of DIVIDED.

Stewards questioned trainer Ms J. Hassett as to the seemingly improved performance of DIVIDED. Ms Hassett explained that the gelding had not raced since 14th January 2014 and on that occasion had been fractious in the barriers and then raced greenly. For this reason she had engaged a senior rider for today’s event and the gelding raced more tractably. Ms Hassett said that DIVIDED had won two jump-outs in the lead-up to today’s event and she was confident of an improved performance.

Race 2: - Arorka Constructions Maiden Plate – 1200 Metres
1st – SANDBAR JACK 2nd - GRAUMAN 3rd – I SEE ROMANCE 4th – DARING LIGHT

From leaving the 800 metres until a point near the 400 metres EBONY GOLD (J. Felix) hung out.

Near the 400 metres GRAUMAN (W. D’Avila) was held up and unable to obtain clear running for a short distance.

On returning to scale Jockey S. Wilson reported that DARING LIGHT hung out for the majority of the event.

Race 3: - dillonarchitects.com QTIS 3-Y-O Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – SIMON BON ROCKET 2nd – MOLONGLE DREAM 3rd – DAZZLE ON 4th – SEQUONIS

Following the event Jockey A. Pattillo reported that for the majority of the event SEQUONIS over-raced and refused to settle, and in his opinion this may have had a bearing on the gelding’s somewhat poor performance.

SIMON BON ROCKET (C. Whiteley) was slow into stride.

On jumping, NOTABITOFWHITE (App. B. Swaffer) shifted out and bumped FOUR JAYS (D. Hayse).

At the start VENCEREMOS (S. Pawsey) and DREAM ON DREAMER (App. N. Yadi) came together.

In the middle stages DAZZLE ON (App. J. Orman) and DREAM ON DREAMER raced wide.

App. N. Yadi pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that near the 600 metres he permitted DREAM ON DREAMER to shift in when insufficiently clear of MOLONGLE DREAM (T. Bannon), which was forced inwards onto SIMON BON ROCKET (C. Whiteley), which had to be checked and lost its rightful running. App. Yadi was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 2 meetings, to commence at midnight 16th February 2014, up to and including midnight on Saturday 22nd February 2014.

Race 4: – Sundown Group Security Class 1 Handicap – 1400 metres
1st – DENONATE 2nd – RUM RATION 3rd – ROMAN PLEASURE 4th – PRESSUM

When Jockey D. Peisley was indisposed and unable to fulfil his engagement, Jockey A. Pattillo was substituted as the rider of TOP GLORY. Jockey Peisley was advised that he must provide a medical clearance prior to being permitted to ride again.

DENONATE (A. Coome), FIDDY GEE (T. Bannon) and BERKELEY (W. D’Avila) were all slow into stride.

CHARLIE’S LASS (App. N. Yadi) and STAR SPRAY (S. Wilson) raced wide rounding the home turn.

At the 300 metres ROMAN PLEASURE (D. Hayse) was disappointed for a run between PRESS PLAY (App. J. Orman) and PRESSUM (App. B. Swaffer) and had to be steadied and shifted to the inside to obtain clear running.

Near the 300 metres TOP GLORY (A. Pattillo) was disappointed for a run between DAMKY (G. Kliese) and ELKALATO (C. Whiteley), and had to be steadied and shifted to the inside to obtain clear running.

Near the 200 metres ELKALATO (C. Whiteley) had to be momentarily steadied from the heels of DENONATE, which shifted out to improve.

CHARLIE’S LASS (App. N. Yadi) raced wide throughout.

At the winning post PRESS PLAY (App. J. Orman) was tightened for room between ROMAN PLEASURE (D. Hayse) and PRESSUM (App. B. Swaffer), both of which shifted ground. A short distance later PRESSUM clipped the heels of ROMAN PLEASURE, which shifted out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider.

Race 5: – Loloma Jewellers Open Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – CHEVAL ARGENTE 2nd – ASSERTIVE ALBERT 3rd – BELLASPIRIT 4th – GO AMIGO

STRATO MOSTRO (D. Hayse) was slow to begin.

Near the 500 metres, and again near the 400 metres, ASSERTIVE ALBERT (App. J. Orman) had to be steadied away from the heels of ROTHSCHILD LAD (P. Cullen).

Race 6: – Playmate Daycare & Kindergarten Class 3 Plate – 1200 metres
1st – JAXTER’S BALLET 2nd – MISS MAGIC CHINE 3rd – CRASHING 4th – CARNEGIE HALL

As the start was effected HOAKSTESS (W. D’Avila) reared and lost ground.

MADE IN AMERICA (G. Cullen) was slow into stride.

PAYTEEVEE (C. Whiteley) began awkwardly and lost ground at the start.

Near the 1100 metres MADE IN AMERICA (G. Cullen) shifted out forcing HOAKSTESS out onto DE LA SOUL (D. Hayse).

In the early and middle stages DE LA SOUL raced wide.

TWIZZLE (G. Watson) raced wide throughout.

Race 7: - Steve McKenzie Consultant Engineer BenchMark 60 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – MY KING OATH 2nd – THIRTY THREE LARGE 3rd – BLEACHING 4th – EREBUS

BLEACHING (D. Hayse) was slow into stride.

Near the 200 metres CARAVAN SANG (App. J. Kuskopf) was disappointed for a run between THIRTY THREE LARGE (App. N. Yadin) and FOURSREAL (J. Felix), which shifted out.

Leaving the 200 metres BLEACHING was held up and unable to obtain clear running, and had to alter course to the inside of FOURSREAL to improve.

App. B. Swaffer pleaded guilty to a charge under A.R. 137(b) in that he failed to ride LIDEEM out right to the finish. Apprentice Swaffer was fined $200. In assessing penalty stewards took into account Apprentice Swaffer’s unblemished record in relation to this Rule.

ALL WINNERS were sent to be swabbed, and pre-race samples were taken from OUTBACK SUPREMACY, BERKELEY, ROMAN PLEASURE, and LIDEEM
