------------

Race 1: - www.townsvilleturfclub.com.au QTIS 2-Y-O Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – CYCLONE KAN 2nd – MODEL TO EXCEED 3rd – CRAIGLEA PLATINUM 4th – CRAIGLEA IVY

BACKTOSPEC (G. Watson), which was slow to begin, was buffeted shortly after the start between CRAIGLEA PLATINUM and CYCLONE KAN, both of which shifted ground.

In the early stages CRAIGLEA IVY (D. Simmons) raced keenly.

In the home straight BACKTOSPEC was inclined to lay in under pressure.

Race 2: - Defence Family Raceday Sun. 27th April Maiden Handicap – 1300 Metres
1st – FOOLING 2nd - WINDSOR GOLD 3rd – ZAHMATA OF HONOUR 4th – ILLUSIONS

DARING LIGHT (G. Watson) missed the start by two lengths.

FRUMBOLI (G. Kliese) began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with CHARLIE’S GOLD (App. J. Kuskopf).

Shortly after the start KOOLKUNA BABE (D. Simmons) shifted out, carrying CASINOJEAN (App. K. Aho) outwards onto WINDSOR GOLD, which was taken out and became awkwardly placed on the heels of ILLUSIONS (W. D’Avila).

In the early and middle stages KOOLKUNA BABE hung out.

Upon returning to scale Jockey G. Kliese reported that FRUMBOLI hung in throughout the event.

Stewards opened an inquiry into the running and handling of ZAHMATA OF HONOUR. After taking evidence from Jockey S. Wilson and trainer W. Kenning, stewards adjourned the inquiry until the 27th April 2014 at the Townsville Turf Club.

Stewards inquired into an incident that occurred shortly after straightening for home, where CHARLIE’S GOLD was awkwardly placed on the heels of CHAIR AS WELL (F. Edwards), clipped heels, blundered and almost dislodged its rider. On the evidence it was established that prior to straightening CHARLIE’S GOLD was inclined to lay in when attempting to improve to the outside of CHAIR AS WELL, which shifted out marginally, resulting in CHARLIE’S GOLD clipping the heels of CHAIR AS WELL, becoming unbalanced, shifting out abruptly and hampering KOOLKUNA BABE. Stewards deemed that the interference was a result of CHARLIE’S GOLD laying in.

Race 3: - Tribute to Gail McLellan Class 2 Handicap – 1300 metres
1st – SHERIDAN 2nd – MISS MAGIC CHINE 3rd - PUBLIC AFFAIR 4th – FAST ‘N’ SHARP

TREASURE SON (D. Simmons) began awkwardly, shifted in and hampered PATTO’S GIRL (T. Bannon).

FIDDY GEE (App. S. Fawke) was slow to begin.

ELOVACHILL (F. Edwards) and MANUMIT (App. J. Orman) raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

Approaching the first turn, near the 1000 metres, BUCASIA BEACH (J. Felix) had to be steadied when racing tight to the inside of MISS MAGIC CHINE (W. D’Avila), which shifted in away from FAST ‘N’ SHARP (G. Kliese).

Shortly after straightening for home SHERIDAN (G. Watson) shifted out when not quite clear of MANUMIT (App. J. Orman), which was hampered. Jockey Watson was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Passing the 200 metres SHYCHENKA (App. B. Swaffer) was hampered when racing tight between FAST ‘N’ SHARP and ELOVACHILL (F. Edwards), which was inclined to lay in under pressure.

Race 4: – Join The TTC 100 Club today BenchMark 75 Handicap – 1300 metres
1st – ZIP THE LIP 2nd – BELLASPIRIT 3rd – MEREDITH 4th – KOOLASACAT

MIGHTY MITE (App. J. Orman) was slow to begin.

When questioned regarding her riding of MEREDITH, App. J. Kuskopf stated that she had anticipated the tempo of the race to be strong and, bearing that in mind, she attempted to ride the gelding off the pace. App. Kuskopf said that after travelling only a short distance runners to her inside were able to improve, resulting in MEREDITH racing 3 wide for the entirety of the event. When asked whether there was an opportunity for her to push forward and assume the lead, App. Kuskopf explained that in her opinion she would have had to make too much use of her mount and therefore she elected to remain racing wide. App. Kuskopf concurred with stewards that her ride lacked initiative on this occasion.

App. B. Swaffer was reprimanded for making contact with connections prior to weighing in.

Race 5: – Become A TTC Member QTIS 3-Y-O Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – SHEKOU 2nd – MOLONGLE DREAM 3rd – MCCONACHY 4th – FOUR JAYS

TOUGH COMPANY (App. S. Wiseman) was slow to begin.

On jumping, SHEKOU (S. Wiseman) shifted out and made contact with WATCH THE RED.

In the early part of the home straight STANDFORD (App. B. Swaffer) laid in.

When questioned regarding the performance of SEQUONIS, App. J. Orman explained that although the gelding travelled in a prominent position throughout the early and middle stages, SEQUONIS was under constant pressure to maintain its position, failed to respond to his urgings from the 600 metres and was disappointing.

Race 6: – Parry Nissan Raceday Saturday 31st BM 65 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – HARVEY THE RABBIT 2nd – OSCARMANIA 3rd – SIZZLELON 4th – JAXTER’S BALLET

CHATEAU DETTORI (T. Bannon) and TECHNOCRACY (W. D’Avila) were slow to begin.

NATE (P. Cullen) began awkwardly with its head up.

KINGS ROAD (D. Simmons), which began awkwardly, had to be checked shortly after wards when crowded for room between BELLISTA DEE (G. Watson) and EXAGGERATION, which shifted out abruptly.

For some distance in the early part of the home straight NATE had difficulty obtaining clear running, then passing the 100 metres was awkwardly placed close to the heels of EXAGGERATION (App. S. Wiseman) and was shifted to the inside of that runner. NATE was again disappointed when attempting a narrow run to the inside of EXAGGERATION and had to be checked shortly thereafter when SIZZLELON (App. S. Fawke) shifted out to improve.

EXAGGERATION lost its off hind plate in running. A post-race veterinary examination of EXAGGERATION revealed that the gelding had superficial skin wounds on the off hind leg over the medial fetlock.

Race 7: - Happy Easter From the TTC BenchMark 60 Handicap – 1630 metres
1st – FRAIDSO 2nd – WEATHERVANE 3rd – LOFTY’S MATE 4th – GLADIUS

Prior to the race RUNABOUT (P. Cullen), which was resuming following a lengthy spell, was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field.

After riding MEREDITH in Race 4, App. J. Kuskopf became indisposed through dehydration and was examined by the Ambulance Officers. Acting on their advice stewards stood Apprentice Kuskopf down from her engagement for CYCLONE LARRY. App. Aho was substituted.

A warning was placed on the poor pre-race manners of KAMARAH (App. B. Swaffer).

RUNABOUT (P. Cullen) was slow to begin.

KAMARAH (App. B. Swaffer) raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

Passing the 400 metres GLADIUS (G. Watson) shifted out and made contact with CYCLONE LARRY (App. K. Aho).
