When App. S. Fawke was ill and unable to fulfil his engagements, substitutions were made as per the Stewards Raceday Summary. App. Fawke was advised that he must provide a medical clearance prior to being permitted to ride again.

As App. J. Kuskopf was ill and unable to fulfil her engagements, substitutions were made as per the Stewards Raceday Summary. App. Kuskopf was advised that she must provide a medical clearance prior to being permitted to ride again.

As Jockey A. Butler was to be overweight and unable to fulfil his engagement for BLEACHING in Race 3, Jockey G. Watson was substituted. Jockey Butler was fined $100 under A.R. 120(b).

SHINNECOCK HILLS (J. Stanley) was slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormalities.

LATEST EDITION (S. Pawsey) shifted out abruptly at the start and made contact with YOUNG BASIL (J. Felix).

Passing the 1000 metres LOVE FROM LYNDI (D. Hayse) had to be steadied when racing tight to the inside of BUENA VIDA (A. Coome), which shifted in when not completely clear.

In the early and middle stages ZAHMATA OF HONOUR (App. J. Orman) raced greenly.

Approaching the winning post ZAHMATA OF HONOUR shifted in under pressure and hampered BUENA VIDA.

Approaching the 200 metres DOYADEAL was disappointed for a run between MAGIC COUNTRY and SIZZLELON (D. Missen), then had to be shifted to the inside of SIZZLELON to obtain clear running.

Public announcements were made advising patrons that AWESOME HORSESOM raced at Home Hill on Saturday last, 17th May 2014 in a Class B 1460 metre event and ran 4th, beaten 3.3 lengths.

In the early part of the home straight DANZIG KING (D. Missen) had difficulty obtaining clear running, shifted out and made contact with BARRIER JET (App. A. Holt).

Race 5: – Parry Nissan Great Northern Prelude QTIS 2-Y-O Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – CRAIGLEA IVY 2nd – ONE BAR NONE 3rd – NEVETUS 4th – MODEL TO SUCCEED 5th - CYCLONE KAN

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer B. Williams for the late declaration of App. J. Orman as the rider of GOLDEN PAGES

At the start MODEL TO EXCEED (App. C. Schmidt) was hampered when tightened for room between ONE BAR NONE (P. Cullen) and SCHNELLES PFERD (G. Watson), both of which shifted ground.

RANGILA (D. Hayse) and ELEMENT OF CHANCE (S. Pawsey) bumped at the start.

On jumping JUST LUCKY (F. Edwards) shifted out and made contact with FADE TO BLACK (App. B. Swaffer).

TRY ME DOL (S. Wilson) was slow to begin.

In the early stages JUST LUCKY raced ungenerously with its head up.

Shortly after the start NEVETUS (D. Simmons) had to be checked when crowded for room between JUST LUCKY and GOLDEN PAGES (App. J. Orman), which was carried out by ELEMENT OF CHANCE, which shifted out after making contact with the hindquarters of RANGILA.

Approaching the 1000 metres RANGILA had to be steadied to avoid the heels of ELEMENT OF CHANCE , which shifted in when not quite clear. Jockey Pawsey was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

When questioned as to the performance of ELEMENT OF CHANCE, Jockey S. Pawsey explained that after he rode the gelding along in the early stages in an attempt to take up a midfield position where ELEMENT OF CHANCE travelled comfortably. However, after being placed under pressure near the 600 metres ELEMENT OF CHANCE failed to respond and was disappointing. Jockey Pawsey added that in his opinion ELEMENT OF CHANCE raced like a tired horse. Trainer F. Wieland expressed his disappointment with the performance and undertook to report to the stewards whether anything was amiss with the gelding in the days following the event. A post-race veterinary examination of ELEMENT OF CHANCE did not reveal any abnormalities.

Race 6: – Opteon Property North Queensland Class 6 Plate – 1300 metres
1st – FRENCH LESSON 2nd – DE LA SOUL 3rd – SKITTER 4th – ROWEINER

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey G. Watson, the rider of ROWEINER which finished 4th, to view the video films of the home straight. Having done so, Jockey Watson was satisfied with the judge’s placings and stewards declared correct weight.

FRENCH LESSON shifted out at the start and made contact with BOLD TROJAN (D. Missen).

ROWEINER was slow to begin.

Rounding the home turn DE LA SOUL (D. Hayse) was held up and unable to obtain clear running.

Over the final few strides ROWEINER was momentarily tightened for room between SKITTER (App. J. Orman) and DE LA SOUL, which shifted in.

BELLASPIRIT (D. Simmons) raced wide throughout.

Race 7: - Caltex Yabulu BenchMark 60 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – HEART OF STRENGTH 2nd – EXAGGERATION 3rd – NAIL ‘EM 4th – FLIGHT TO GLORY

Prior to the race REDBOLT, which was resuming from a lengthy spell (700 days), was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field.

On returning to scale Jockey G. Kliese reported that HARVEY THE RABBIT travelled comfortably in the early stages, however when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding and changed stride on a number of occasions. Jockey Kliese added that he also attributed the disappointing performance of the gelding to the heavy impost of 61.5 kg.

HOPEWELL (A. Coome) missed the start (2 lengths).

RATTLER’S LAD (D. Simmons) was slow to begin.

REDBOLT (G. Watson) began awkwardly with its head up.

In the early part of the home straight EXAGGERATION (App. S. Wiseman) was held up and had difficulty obtaining clear running.

For some distance in the early part of the home straight DECADERO (D. Hayse) was held up on the heels of the weakening AQUALITA (S. Pawsey).

PUBLIC AFFAIR (P. Cullen) raced wide throughout.

A post-race veterinary examination of HARVEY THE RABBIT (G. Kliese) revealed that the gelding had sustained a superficial laceration to the near hind fetlock.
