Race 1: - Zinc 100.7 With Karina & Scotty Maiden Handicap – 1300 metres
1st - JAMALKA 2nd - FRUMBOLI 3rd - BUCKANARA 4th - CHARLIE’S MOMENT

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow connections of FRUMBOLI (S. Wilson), which finished second, to view the official patrol films to determine whether they would lodge an objection against JAMALKA (D. Missen) being declared the winner. Having done so, connections elected not to lodge a protest and correct weight was declared on the judge’s numbers.

LIABLE (App. B. Swaffer) was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start TAMARIKI STAR (J. Felix) shifted out and made contact with KING EURI.

For some distance leaving the 1200 metres CHARLIE’S MOMENT (App. J. Orman), which was racing greenly, was reluctant to hold its position when racing between TAMARIKI STAR and JAMALKA, and for some distance thereafter had to be continually steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of JAMALKA. Shortly after this CHARLIE’S MOMENT had to be steadied when racing tight inside KING EURI, which shifted in when not quite clear. FRUMBOLI, which was following, was hampered as a consequence. Jockey Kliese was advised to exercise more care. Soon after this CHARLIE’S MOMENT continued to race greenly.

Shortly after straightening for home JAMALKA shifted out and made contact with FRUMBOLI.

Soon after straightening LIABLE shifted in under pressure and momentarily hampered WINDSOR GOLD (T. Bannon).

Race 2: - Nissan Pathfinder BenchMark 70 Handicap – 1630 Metres
1st – MANZANITA 2nd - DE LA SOUL 3rd – ELOVACHILL 4th – DESPERATE WOMAN

Prior to the race Trainer K. Baumann informed stewards that THE PRINCIPAL (G. Kliese) will be ridden forward today, if circumstances permit. Public announcements were made accordingly. On returning to scale Jockey G. Kliese reported that although he was instructed to take up a forward position, as advised to the stewards prior to the event, he explained that after beginning fairly, rather than be caught wide he elected to restrain his mount and take up a rearward position closer to the running rail, and the gelding travelled only fairly throughout.

Shortly after the start MANZANITA (A. Coome) was tightened for room between DE LA SOUL (T. Bannon) and KNUTE (K. Wharton), which shifted out abruptly.

After being crossed in the early stages, ELOVACHILL (F. Edwards) commenced to over-race with its head up, and leaving the 1200 metres the nearside winker became detached from the bridle.

Race 3: - Townsville RSL Class 1 Handicap – 1630 metres
1st – DON’T THINK DO 2nd – MARKAZY 3rd - BREAKTHROUGH 4th – STANDFORD

Following this race the track rating was downgraded to a Dead (4).

Near the 300 metres Jockey C. McIver, the rider of SHINNECOCK HILLS, dropped his whip.

ROMAN PLEASURE (App. J. Orman) and STANDFORD (App. B. Swaffer) were slow to begin.

In the early stages HUSSELING (B. Appo) raced ungenerously with its head up.

SHINNECOCK HILLS raced keenly in the early stages.

Passing the 800 metres HUSSELING (B. Appo), which was inclined to race ungenerously had to be steadied when racing tight to the inside of YOUNG BASIL (J. Long), which was carried in slightly by DON’T THINK DO (F. Edwards), which shifted in when not completely clear. Jockey Edwards was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise more care.

Leaving the 1200 metres BREAKTHROUGH (S. Pawsey), which was racing keenly, shifted in abruptly and hampered SHINNECOCK HILLS.

Over the concluding stages ROMAN PLEASURE (App. J. Orman) was held up when awkwardly placed on the heels of ZAHMATA OF HONOUR (App. S. Wiseman).

App. B. Swaffer pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that rounding the home turn he allowed STANDFORD to shift out when not clear of AWESOME HORSESOM (G. Watson), which was checked. App. Swaffer was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 3 North Queensland meetings, to commence at midnight on Saturday 7th June 2014, up to and including Wednesday 18th June 2014,

App. B. Swaffer pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that passing the 200 metres he allowed STANDFORD to shift in whilst riding it along when insufficiently clear of RUNABOUT (P. Cullen), which had to be checked. App. Swaffer was suspending from riding in races for a period covering 3 North Queensland meetings, to commence at midnight on Saturday 7th June 2014, up to and including Wednesday 18th June 2014, the suspension to run concurrently with the suspension imposed on App. Swaffer in regard to the incident rounding the home turn.

Race 4: – New Nissan X-Trail BenchMark60 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – MADE IN AMERICA 2nd – HEART OF STRENGTH 3rd – FILLE VILAINE 4th – PASSIN’ THRU

FLIGHT TO GLORY (J. Felix) was slow to begin, then shortly afterwards was crowded between PASSIN’ THRU (App. J. Kuskopf) and GO DIGGER (B. Appo), which was bumped and taken outwards by DELTA DRAGON (K. Wharton).

STAR TRUCE (F. Edwards) was slow to begin.

Approaching the 1000 metres DELTA DRAGON (K. Wharton) got its head up when being restrained and was momentarily tightened for room between FILLE VILAINE (G. Kliese) and MAECENUS (S. Wilson).

Over the concluding stages SUNTIME (D. Simmons) shifted out marginally and was awkwardly placed on the heels of NAIL ‘EM (T. Bannon).

When questioned regarding the seemingly poor performance of GO DIGGER, Jockey B. Appo explained that the gelding failed to travel well at any stage of the event and was disappointing. Jockey Appo said that in his opinion the gelding did not handle today’s shifty track conditions.
A post-race veterinary examination of GO DIGGER revealed that the gelding was showing a poor post-race recovery rate. Trainer J. Pointon was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance prior to the gelding being permitted to race again.

Race 5: – Parry Nissan Great Northern 2-Y-O Plate – 1200 metres
1st – EXECUTED 2nd – NEVETUS 3rd – MODEL TO EXCEED 4th – DRAGON HART 5th - CRAIGLEA IVY

DRAGON HART (F. Edwards) was slow to begin and shortly after the start was tightened for room between CRAIGLEA IVY (A. Coome) and ONE BAR NONE (P. Cullen).

FADE TO BLACK (App. B. Swaffer) was slow to begin.

Passing the 900 metres BORN TO FIRE (App. S. Wiseman) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of CRAIGLEA IVY, which shifted in marginally.

Approaching the 600 metres RANGILA (G. Kliese), which was inclined to lay out, was momentarily awkwardly placed on the heels of IN HIS ELEMENT (T. Bannon).

IN HIS ELEMENT raced wide throughout.

A post-race veterinary examination of CRAIGLEA IVY revealed that the filly had a slow post-race recovery rate and was showing signs of distress.

Following the running of this race the track rating was further downgraded to a DEAD (5).

Race 6: – All New Nissan Pulsar BenchMark 75 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – SIZZLELON 2nd – MAGIC COUNTRY 3rd – DAILIKA 4th – RHYTHM ‘N’ RAP

MAGIC COUNTRY (J. P. Stanley) was slow to begin.

RHYTHM ‘N’ RAP (F. Edwards) was held up for clear running in the early part of the straight, was shifted out to obtain clear running and made contact with JAM FANCY (G. Kliese).

On returning to scale Jockey P. Cullen explained that MY KING OATH failed to travel at any stage of the event, dipped on a number of occasions, and in his opinion did not handle the shifty track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination of MY KING OATH did not reveal any abnormalities.
