Ms Ashford explained that she had intended to start all three runners in the aforementioned event, however because of the shortage of riders – 6 in total – at the meeting, she had to accept with two runners, one in another event and the other on a different day. Nevertheless, Ms Ashford was reminded of her obligations under L. R. 38 regarding the nomination or declaration of a horse as an acceptor with the sole purpose of affecting the number of horses available for the race.

LATE RIDER NOTIFICATIONS

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer B. Williams for the late notification of App. J. Orman as the rider of ASTRONAUT and App. S. Wiseman as the rider of MOLONGLE CHIEF in Race 6.

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer D. Symons for the late notification of Jockey T. Bannon as the rider of CANONIZED and Jockey G. Watson as the rider of SHOWMETHEMONEY in Race 7.

Race 1: - Cowboys Community Fund Maiden Plate – 1000 metres4
1st – FRUMBOLI 2nd - HENASAR 3rd – SINGCIELO 4th – JUST A FRACTION

HENASAR (R. Thompson) began awkwardly and shortly afterwards was hampered by BARELY THERE (App. J. Kuskopf), which shifted out.

LIABLE (App. Swaffer) was slow to begin.

FESTIVAL BALLET (M. Cullen) began awkwardly, then raced wide throughout.
Soon after the start SHINNECOCK HILLS (A. Merritt) was hampered by SINGCIELO (App. J. Orman), which shifted in abruptly.

Passing the 400 metres SINGCIELO, which laid in despite the efforts of its rider, shifted in and hampered AWESOME HORSESOM (G. Watson).

On returning to scale App. B. Swaffer reported that in the straight LIABLE was inclined to lay in under pressure and proved difficult to ride.

On returning to scale App. J. Kuskopf reported that BARELY THERE failed to travel at any stage of the event. A post-race veterinary examination of the filly did not reveal any abnormalities.

When questioned regarding JUST A FRACTION leading today, contrary to its usual racing pattern, App. S. Wiseman explained that after beginning particularly well she was able to obtain a prominent position in the early stages. App. Wiseman stated that when JUST A FRACTION pulled hard throughout the middle stages, rather than continually restrain her mount she allowed the gelding to stride forward and assume the lead, where the gelding travelled comfortably for the remainder of the race. The explanation was noted.

When questioned as to her riding of TWICE THE PRICE, Jockey T. Bannon explained that she had been instructed to ride the mare where it was comfortable. Jockey Bannon added that after beginning only fairly from its wide barrier, TWICE THE PRICE was unable to obtain a position closer than three deep for the majority of the event. Jockey Bannon said that shortly after straightening for home she attempted to improve into the race between SINGCIELO and HENASA, however when SINGCIELO shifted out under pressure she had to steady her mount and shift to the inside of that runner, and over the final 100 metres when that runner shifted back in she was unable to obtain clear running and was held up in the run to the finish. The explanation was noted.

Race 2: - Brisclean BenchMark 65 Handicap – 1630 metres
1st – CARBINCONI 2nd – DE LA SOUL 3rd - ELOVACHILL 4th – MARKAZY

BREAKTHROUGH (S. Pawsey) and SMOOTH GENERAL (A. Badger) were slow to begin.

MARKAZY (S. Wilson) raced keenly in the early stages.

Rounding the first turn, near the 1500 metres, ELOVACHILL (App. S. Wiseman), which was inclined to race fiercely, shifted out abruptly and carried DON’T THINK DO (F. Edwards) wider on the track.

For a considerable distance in the middle stages SMOOTH GENERAL had to be continually steadied when racing tight to the inside of BREAKTHROUGH. Jockey S. Pawsey was advised to exercise more care and to ensure that he leaves sufficient room for runners to his inside.

Race 3: - Cowboys Leagues Club BenchMark 60 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – ANGELINA 2nd – MONTH OF SUNDAYS 3rd - WINE BY THE GLASS 4th – EIREANN

At the start ANGELINA (App. S. Wiseman) shifted out and made contact with RATTLER’S LAD (P. Cullen).

Jockey P. Cullen reported that passing the 200 metres RATTLER’S LAD shied and shifted inwards, resulting in his having to stop riding and straighten his mount.

App. S. Wiseman pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that passing the 100 metres she allowed ANGELINA to shift out whilst riding it along when not clear of RICH ‘N’ FAMOUS (C. Whiteley), which had to be checked and lost its rightful running. App. Wiseman was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 2 N.Q. meetings, to commence at midnight on Sunday 6th July 2014, up to and including midnight on Wednesday 16th July 2014. In arriving at a suitable penalty stewards took into account App. Wiseman’s good record in regard to careless riding charges.

REDBOLT (App. K. Aho) returned to scale with blood in its mouth and had dislodged a tooth.

A post-race veterinary examination of RICH ‘N’ FAMOUS revealed that the gelding had sustained several minor lacerations.

Race 4: – TTC Winter Carnival Marquees on Sale Now BenchMark 60 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – MAECENUS 2nd – KING MAGNUSSON 3rd – RISE TO THE TOP 4th – STAUNCH NORTH

Shortly after the start KING MAGNUSSON (F. Edwards) was crowded for room between PASSIN’ THRU (App. J. Kuskopf) and MAECENUS (D. Simmons), which shifted in away from STAUNCH NORTH (S. Wilson).

When questioned as to the performance of JACSAID, App. J. Orman stated that the filly travelled wide throughout and weakened over the concluding stages. App. Orman said that in his opinion JACSAID raced flat. A post-race veterinary examination of the filly did not reveal any abnormalities.

A post race veterinary examination of SPECIAL TALE revealed the mare to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer Mrs J Ryan was told that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced prior to SPECIAL TALE racing again.

Trainer A. Molino was afforded the opportunity to explain the seemingly improved performance of MAECANUS. Mr Molino explained that at its most recent start the mare failed to run out a strong 1600 metres. He said that MAECANUS was more suited by the drop back in distance to 1200 metres today.

When returning to scale Jockey S. Pawsey was dislodged from TETE DE SEAU.

ALDREN, JETEYE WARRIOR (T. Bannon) and FOUR JAYS (R. Thompson) raced wide throughout.

Jockey D. Simmons reported that the saddle on MALIBU ROSE shifted back during the event, placing him at a disadvantage in riding his mount along.

1st – SHOWMETHEMONEY 2nd – RHYTHM ‘N’ RAP 3rd – GO AMIGO 4th – VON SEBASTIAN

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow App. B. Swaffer, the rider of GO AMIGO which finished 3rd, to view the official photo finish. Having viewed the film App. Swaffer agreed with the judge’s numbers and correct weight was declared.

CANONIZED (T. Bannon) was slow to begin and failed to muster speed in the early stages.

Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight KAMARAH (App. S. Wiseman) was held up and unable to obtain clear running.
