1st – MARJORIES FAVORITE 2nd - THE HAWK ETERNAL 3rd – FAST ANNIE 4th – EIGHTH COMMANDMENT

Trainer D. Symons was fined $100 under A.R. 59A for failing to provide the Thoroughbred Identification Card for MARJORIES FAVORITE when required to do so. Mr Symons was further advised that the filly will not be permitted to start again until he has that document in his possession.

FOREST MAGIC (App. S. Wiseman) began awkwardly.

FAST ANNIE (R. Thompson) was slow to begin.

At the start MARJORIES FAVORITE (T. Bannon) and NORTHERN LOGIC (F. Edwards) were crowded for room between EIGHTH COMMANDMENT (D. Evans), which shifted out, and ZAHMATA OF HONOUR (A. Spinks), which shifted in.

On returning to scale Jockey R. Thompson reported that FAST ANNIE raced ungenerously with its head up throughout the early and middle stages.

Passing the 600 metres SEAPALACE (G. Watson), which was inclined to lay out throughout the event, shifted out and carried DREAMS UNTOLD (App. C. Schmidt) wider.
Following the race Jockey G. Watson reported that SEAPALACE hung out badly throughout the event, resulting in the bridle pulling through the filly’s mouth. SEAPALACE was restrained from the race. A post-race veterinary examination of SEAPALACE did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Ms M. Petrofski was advised that SEAPALACE must perform to the satisfaction of the stewards in a trial before being permitted to race again.

Race 2: - Cup Calcutta @ RSL Tomorrow Maiden Handicap – 1630 metres
1st – PRETTY VACANT 2nd – AWESOME HORSESOM 3rd - HENASAR 4th – AZZURAYER

LIABLE (S. Pawsey) was slow to begin.

SICIMONACHICKEN (D. Hayse) shifted in at the start and made contact with AZZURAYER (D. Hayse).

Rounding the turn passing the 1400 metres RISKY PROPOSITION (App. J. Orman) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of CARRY ME LAD (F. Edwards), which shifted in when not completely clear. Jockey Edwards was reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care.

Approaching the 1300 metres AWESME HORSESOM (A. Spinks) had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room by YOUNG BASIL (J. Felix), which shifted in marginally.

In the home straight SUNNY CHIEF (S. Wilson) was inclined to lay in under pressure.
YOUNG BASIL raced wide throughout.

When questioned regarding SUNNY CHIEF racing towards the rear of the field today, Jockey S. Wilson explained that because of the wide barrier draw he had been instructed to ride the gelding in that manner, as had been his instructions at its previous start. However, on that occasion the gelding pulled extremely hard, refused to settle and assumed the lead. Jockey Wilson added that although he was able to obtain a position at the rear of the field today, the gelding continued to race keenly throughout the early and middle stages.

On its way to the barriers CITY CHAT (A. Spinks) dislodged its rider and galloped riderless for a considerable distance. Stewards ordered the scratching of the gelding at 2.21 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on CITY CHAT be refunded in full and that the following deductions apply:

0¢ in the dollar for the win, for the winner CHARLIE’S MOMENT
1¢ in the dollar for the place for the winner

Leaving the 1000 metres ROCKET BILLY REBEL (D. Evans) had to be steadied when racing tight to the inside of TOP KID, which was racing ungenerously.

For a considerable distance in the early part of the home straight ROCKET BILLY REBEL was held up and did not obtain clear running until passing the 200 metres.

In the early part of the straight TOP KID laid in.

VIRGINIA FALLS (S. Wilson) raced keenly throughout.

When questioned regarding the performance of REAL FRENCH SAGA (App. C. Schmidt) explained that the filly travelled comfortably in a prominent position in the early stages, however after being held up in the early part of the home straight she was again disappointed for a run between RUBY’S SONG (S. Pawsey) and RATTLE’N’BATTLE (M. Cullen) approaching the 200 metres and had to be momentarily steadied. App. Schmidt added that from that point the filly failed to respond to her riding and in her opinion finished the race off only fairly.

1st – CLEAVER 2nd – CHEERS BROWE 3rd – DANGAR DIVA 4th – TUPPENY’S OPINION

A post-race veterinary examination revealed that OKAY SWIFT had sustained a laceration to the off hind leg and was sore in that leg. Trainer’s representative Mr S. Collahan will be advised that he must obtain a veterinary clearance for OKAY SWIFT prior to the gelding being permitted to race again.

Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight BLU AXIS was held up and unable to obtain clear running, and had to be shifted to the outside of SERGEANT SHRIVER to improve.
