A number of Trainers had a difficult time obtaining riders for the early races due to the large fields at Warwick.
Jockey M Schumacher who was indisposed was replaced by M Aspinall (Ready To Fire).
Apprentice N Jolly who was indisposed was replaced by I Coombes (Shecan), G Lynch (Mock Sovereign) and A Gillett (Go Golly).
RACE: 1 Just Wilson (T Hill) which jumped awkwardly returned to scale minus the off fore plate. Piquet’s Revenge (I Coombes) was slowly away. Vibrant And Free (L Karklis) which was fractious in the barriers raced wide throughout. Near the 550 metres Daybreak Edition (B Appo) made contact with the running rail. On the home turn Easter Maila (L Isherwood) shifted out forcing Audasatai (P Gesler), Sendette (R Barone) and Vibrant And Free wider on the track. Daybreak Edition was inclined to race ungenerously over the concluding stages when placed under pressure. Sendette drifted in over the concluding stages. Near the 50 metres Hazy Jet (L Roberts) was steadied when Just Wilson shifted out. Surgeon General (M Aspinall) which hung out throughout shifted out near the 50 metres resulting in Eire Pindi (A Erhart) having to be eased. When questioned about the disappointing performance of Eire Pindi jockey A Erhart stated that he could not offer any excuse for the filly as she had a good run throughout. Time off 4.14 pm.
RACE: 2 Forever Fancy (M Aspinall) jumped in the air as the gates opened. At the start Mr. Jerry (B Powell) made heavy contact with Beau Saw (S Killen). Shortly after Mr Jerry made contact with Beau Saw when taken outwards by Flying Satin (C Small) which was taken out by Survivor (T Hill). Sir Raimondo (P Gesler) which jumped awkwardly shifted out shortly after coming into contact with Murtaka (S Shield). Approaching the 800 metres Murtaka was eased when taken in by Hi Dad (A Erhart). Approaching the 800 metres Sir Raimondo got it’s head up when being steadied. Approaching the home turn Hi Dad was held up for clear running. Forever Fancy was inclined to lay in over the concluding stages. Vikings (R Goltz) shifted out over the concluding stages. Jockey G Lynch (Burn Off ) was reprimanded for not making sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting out on the home turn forcing Outrank (B Appo) and Pearly Way (R Barone) wider on the track. Time off 4.50 pm.
RACE: 3 At the start Shandon Belle (B Powell) and Rising Currency (R Goltz) were hampered between Rising Medico (R Barone) which jumped out and Jaydene (M Aspinall) which jumped in. Time Off 5.21 pm.
RACE: 4 Apprentice A Morrison who failed to arrive on course by the required time was replaced by C Small (Roobar). Stewards accepted A Morrison’s explanation. At the start Just A Cuddle (R Goltz) jumped outwards coming into contact with Blazing Nediym (S Shield). Mock Sovereign (G Lynch) which was slowly away raced keenly in the early stages. Clear Run was held up for clear running approaching the home turn. On the home turn Roobar which was taken out by Clear Run (L Isherwood) was eased from the heels of Blazing Nediym. Just A Cuddle was inclined to lay out throughout. Time Off 5.50 pm.
RACE: 5 At the start Royal Chalice (R Goltz) and Heavenly Thought (R Barone) came into contact. Ready To Fire (M Aspinall) jumped awkwardly. Red And Tough (C Small) made the home turn wide. Heavenly Thought returned to scale lame in the near fore. Trainer R Macrae was advised that a Veterinary certificate was required for the gelding prior to his next start. Time off 6.25 pm.
RACE: 6 Trainer L Wheeler advised Stewards that they were going to endeavor to ride IN Accord mid field in the early stages. Apprentice T Treichel who failed to arrive on course was replaced by B Powell (Full Toddy). T Treichel will be interviewed by Stewards regarding his failure to arrive on course. Go Golly (A Gillett) was slowly away. Jet Soon (G Lynch) jumped in and across the running of Dempency (P Gesler) which was slowly away. Bastee Bersatu (K Mahoney) and Queen Jude (L Isherwood) both jumped outwards. Approaching the 1100 metres and near the 550 metres Brave Mac (R Goltz) and Emerald Clover (M Aspinall) made contact. Leaving the 500 metres Mr. Mornington (R Barone) was held up behind Emerald Clover. Near the 200 metres Emerald Clover shifted in. Shortly after Mr. Mornington was eased when In Accord shifted in. Time Off 6.55pm.
RACE: 7 Mendamillion (G Lynch) jumped out coming into contact with Bronze Era (K Mahoney). Near the 500 metres Hypo (P Gesler) was eased when Denarce (B Powell) rolled in. Bronze Era was inclined to lay in leaving the 1400 metres. Approaching the 200 metres Notify Nick (S Shield) which was taken outwards by Princess Renee (D Green) came into contact with Very Zeph (A Morrison). M Aspinall’s (Argyle Knight) saddle slipped forward in the early stages. Time Off 7.35 pm.
All winners were swabbed.
24th May 1999: Trainer F Adams reported that Forever Fancy was lame in the near fore after competing in the 2 year old maiden at Clifford Park on 22nd May 1999. F Adams said the filly would be spelled immediately.
Apprentice T Treichel was fined the sum of $50 for not fulfilling his engagement on Full Toddy at the Clifford Park meeting on 22nd May 1999.
