Weather: Fine Track: Good Rail: 7 Metres
Track was upgraded from dead to good at 2.30 PM.
RACE 1: Cheliapinsk (M Aspinall) which was fractious reared as the gates opened losing considerable ground. Tears Of Gold (G Lynch) jumped awkwardly losing ground. Out Of Paris (S Shield) raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Mitchel’s Gold (G Geran) was inclined to lay out in the middle stages. Nennius (R Barone) brushed the running rail near the 550 metres. On the home turn Bold Pierre (A Gillett) made contact with Mitchel’s Gold when taken out by Out Of Paris (S Shield). S Shield was subsequently reprimanded for shifting ground when not clear to do so. Approaching the finish Out Of Paris was steadied when taken in by Bold Pierre. Time off 4.37 PM.
RACE 2: At the start Our Profiteer (B Compton) which was taken in by Bold Music (A Gillett) made contact with Young Laurie (G Geran). Pedro Is Dancing (M Lister) jumped in at the start. Shortly after the start Young Laurie shifted out making contact with Our Profiteer. Near the 650 metres Young Laurie was eased from the heels of Chief Of Dreams (R Goltz) which hung out. Shortly after Young Laurie raced ungenerously coming into contact with Bold Music. Approaching the home turn Chief Of Dreams shifted out forcing Our Profiteer wider on the track. Dugcaro (M Aspinall) was inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey G Geran reported that Young Laurie did not feel right in his action during the race. A subsequent Veterinary inspection revealed that the gelding was showing signs of soreness. Trainer G Andrews was advised that a Veterinary Certificate was required for the gelding prior to his next start. Time off 5.17 PM.
RACE 3: Apprentice C Maund who failed to arrive on course by the required time was replaced by G Geran on Noble Motel. C Maund was subsequently fined the sum of $50. Thunder Bumper (K Banks) which was fractious jumped awkwardly and in coming into heavy contact with the gate. Rising Currency (R Goltz) was slowly away. In The Gidgee (M Aspinall) jumped awkwardly. At the start Rocky Colours (R Barone) jumped out coming into contact with Eureka Flight (S Killen). O’Joy (S Shield) which raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages was checked from the heels of Masai Red (A Gillett) approaching the 800 metres. Leaving the 800 metres Thunder Bumper brushed the running rail when taken in by O’Joy. Rocky Colours which raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages shifted in approaching the home turn, momentarily crowding Rising Currency. Approaching the 200 metres In The Gidgee was disappointed for a run between Eureka Flight and Rising Currency when both horses shifted ground. In The Gidgee was held up for clear running for the remainder of the race. Near the 100 metres Thunder Bumper was crowded for room by In The gidgee which was attempting to take a tight run to the inside of Rising Currency. Time off 5.55 PM.
RACE 4: As the gates opened Our Gold Man (G Lynch) jumped high in the air almost dislodging the rider. What A Mess (R Goltz) was slowly away. Approaching the 850 metres Boykambil (S Killen) was eased from the heels of Treasure Bound (R Barone) which was eased from the heels of Coldspur (G Geran). Approaching the 750 metres What A Mess and Treasure Bound were tight for room inside of Amadeo (K Waller). Approaching the 700 metres What A Mess was eased from the heels of Viantea (K Banks) which was eased from the heels of Lady Samariah (C Maund) when the pace steadied. La Philomene (M Aspinall) which was forced to race wide throughout made contact with Coldspur near the 6oo metres. When questioned about the disappointing performance of Amadeo Jockey K Waller stated although he was forced to race 3 wide, the gelding traveled well until placed under pressure at which time he failed to respond. A subsequent Veterinary inspection failed to reveal any apparent abnormality. Time off 6.35 PM.
RACE 5: Magadi (A Gillett) was withdrawn on Veterinary advice at 7.14 PM. Trainer C Castles was advised a Veterinary Certificate was required for the gelding prior to his next start. Deductions on all win bets were paid less 7 cents in the $1 win and 9 cents in the $1 place. Stanza Choice (R Kerwin) jumped inward coming into heavy contact with the gate. Near the 1200 metres Stanza Choice was eased when Pacific Connection (M Aspinall) shifted out and Primary Motive (G Geran) shifted in. Leaving the 800 metres Primary Motive which was taken out by Pacific Connection made contact with Stanza Choice which shifted in marginally. Near the 550 metres Stanza Choice and Primary Motive made contact when both shifted ground. Approaching the home turn Brave Mac (K Waller) was held up for clear running. Time off 7.16 PM.
RACE 6: Eggshells was withdrawn at 9.05 AM. Trainer B Nolan was subsequently fined the sum of $150 for not withdrawing the filly by the required time. When considering the penalty Stewards took into account that the late scratching had cost a horse a start. Silk Organza (R Goltz) jumped awkwardly coming into contact with Girl’s Expense (R Barone). Very Ace (K Waller), Pro Paree (A Gillett) and Crystal Shannon (S Killen) were slowly away. Euchre Lady (M Aspinall) and Sharjules (D McMaster) both jumped awkwardly. Approaching the 1000 metres Fish For Tea (S Shield) which shifted in and away from Crystal Shannon made minor contact with Euchre Lady. Fish For Tea raced keenly and was inclined to lay in, in the early and middle stages. Near the 850 metres Crystal Shannon momentarily shifted in. Near the 150 metres Fish for Tea was taken in by Silk Organza which shifted in momentarily. Near the 150 metres Emerald Clover (C Maund) was steadied when Sendette (J Baker) shifted in momentarily. On the home turn Girl’s Expense shifted out forcing Crystal Shannon wider on the track. When questioned about the disappointing performance of Very Ace Jockey K Waller stated that the mare did not travel well at any stage. A subsequent Veterinary inspection failed to reveal any apparent abnormality. Jockey S Killen was found guilty of a careless riding charge, the careless riding being that approaching the 700 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Fish For Tea causing that horse to be taken in onto Euchre Lady, resulting in Euchre Lady making heavy contact with the running rail and losing ground. Sharjules and Very Ace which were racing behind Euchre Lady were both severely hampered in the incident. S Killen was subsequently suspended from riding in races for a period of 7 meetings to take affect as of mid-night on 9th September 99 and to expire at mid-night on 19th September 99. Time off 7.56 PM.
RACE 7: Jockey M Babb who was indisposed was replaced by S Shield on Bellevue Pan. Bellevue Pan was slowly away. Hot Chance (M Aspinall) pulled hard in the early and middle stages. Blue Balloon (G Geran) brushed the running rail near the 550 metres. Blue Balloon which was held up for clear running leaving the 400 metres shifted out near the 350 metres coming into contact with Bellevue Pan. Time off 8.35 PM.
All winners were swabbed.
Stewards opened an inquiry into a complaint that was lodged by Jockey M Babb into an alleged incident that she was involved in prior to arriving on course. After taking evidence from M Babb and Doctor J Hooper Stewards adjourned the inquiry.

Stewards today concluded an inquiry into the reason for Apprentice Jockey Sharon Warren failing to wear a body protector when mounted on a horse for the purpose of and having ridden trackwork at the Clifford Park Racecourse, Toowoomba on the 3rd September 1999.
After taking evidence from Apprentice Warren, the Stewards issued a charge against Apprentice Warren for a breach of AR87C for failing to wear a body protector when mounted on a horse.
Apprentice Warren was found guilty of the charge and fined the sum of $250.
